Re: Poor Melo...Can't catch a break.
1. Carmelo took the Nuggets to the playoffs, damn and to think I thought Miller, Lenard, Camby, Nene and others helped with that, but what do I know? 2. Won a national title? Hmm I remember a few games where if it weren't for McLemara's (sp?) hot shooting they wouldn't even had made it to the final four, oh and he had this guy named Hakim Warrick too, but they rode Melo's coattails to the National Championship, right? 3. Crybaby? Yeah he is, he publicly cried about playing time (during the olympics), and his own teammates said he was selfish and immature. Lol so let me get this right? You think him getting caught with pot, being in a tape disrespecting the USA, and hanging around with losers, will make him a better basketball player? Pass that stuff you're smoking cause obviously it's good ish.Originally posted by NumberOneRBWhy is everyone criticizing Carmelo anyway? He's in his second year in the league, took his team to the playoffs last year in his rookie year, and won a national title in his freshmen year of college. People call him a crybaby although I have never seen him cry about anything. And if you call him a crybaby because he complains to the refs, WHO THE HELL DOESN'T COMPLAIN TO THE REFS?!?!? Obviously this hatred towards Carmelo is coming from a group of people who didn't like him to begin with. If someone doesn't like someone else, any little thing that person does that's seems negative will be blown out of proportion; and the person will get all overdramatic about how terrible that person is. From my perspective, Carmelo is having some hard times right now and instead of talking down on him, maybe people should actually try and support him. I believe that things happen in life as learning experiences and the problems Melo is having are not different from any other first year, second year, or even vetaran player in the league. These recent struggles will only make Melo a stronger person and basketball player. People need to stop hating on these people and try to put themselves in the same situation and see how they would react.Comment

Re: Poor Melo...Can't catch a break.
I don't know why people are making a big deal out of this. All he did was talk about the olympics and thats it. He didn't even talk about hurting anybody, he laughed when they asked him about that.Originally posted by HMcCoyOriginally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Poor Melo...Can't catch a break.
It obvisouly takes a team to win in anything in any team sport. Why do you think people say that Michael Jordan took his team to 6 championships? Obviously, Michael Jordan himself was not the only player who was involved in the Bulls championships, all the members of a team took a part in winning them. The main point is that Jordan was a "major" part of them winning championships, therefore the reason why people use the saying that a player "took their team to a championship." Carmelo did the same thing in college and in the pros. He was a "major" part of the reason why Suracuse won the nat'l title and a "major" reason why the Nuggets went to the playoffs in his rookie year. Secondly, Carmelo "crying" about not getting playing time is the exact reaction that any good player would have when he's not contributing to any team in any sport. Yeah, I'm sure you'd be so happy to ride the bench and not contribute as your team is getting pounded by other international teams. Let's not forget that we didn't send the Dream Team to Athens, hell, we weren't even that good to begin with, so it's not like putting Carmelo in would "ruin" the "30 point deficit" we were already in while playing against some of those teams. The last point I want to make is that obviously you already didn't like Carmelo to begin with, so any little negative thing he does you're going to strike at him like a cobra. I guess you have never made "any" mistakes in your life? I guess you've never done anything in life that you wish you could take back? When your mother caught you doing something you weren't suppose to, I guess (by your thoughts) she should have just denied you as her son and threw you on the street for every mistake you ever made. If you haven't made any mistakes, then congratulations for being the world's first perfect human being!!!Originally posted by MDKKRB1. Re: Poor Melo...Can't catch a break.
See that's where you went wrong, Melo is no where near Jordan, so don't speak their names in the same sentence. In college I'd say Mclemara was more important to that team than Carmelo. The Nuggets would have been just as good with Bosh, Wade and I'd even say Darko. Miller was a former allstar, Camby is a good player, just injury prone, Nene is a beast down low, Lenard is a great shooter, Boykins and Andersen is/was instant energy off the bench, so don't say Melo was the reason they went to the playoffs, cause I saw two guys who were more important to that teams sucess, Camby and Miller. Carmelo did play at first in the Olympics, but his no D playing *** along with a horrid shot selection got his *** a spot on the bench. Melo is a selfish me first player and is exactly whats wrong with the NBA. And if you think for one second that the pot is his bag wasn't his you're in denial, like he couldn't easily say "hey man take the rap for this, I'll buy you a Hummer" but such an upstanding citizen such as Mr. Anthony would never ever do such a thing. Re: Poor Melo...Can't catch a break.
I don't consider the possession, smoking, or distribution of marijuana a big deal. Cigarettes and alcohol are more dangerous IMO, but that's a different post, for another forum.
If someone doesn't like a player, they are going to jump at the opportunity to take him down, whether it be through the media, or otherwise.
I consider the newstory that spurred this discussion and feedback to be flawed and poorly written. It's obscure, contradictory, and seems to me to be more about holding a grudge and going to print with it than having a valid and worthwhile story.
There's nothing wrong with this (I guess), but it does lower the credibility of the writer if he had any to begin with.
Everyone makes mistakes in life, the difference with the NBA and its players is that they are in the spotlight, and generally have a reputation of being pot smoking thugs. So when they do get caught with pot or talking "gangsta" they are shredded by the media.. Because it adds fuel to the already public's perception, which is usually at least partially unfounded.
I like Carmelo Anthony, and I like the Nuggets. I like watching other rookies play well and develop as well. Wade, LeBron, and Okafor. They are fun to watch. If they are caught with weed, I don't care. I would bet over a quarter of the students at the college I attend smoke pot at least twice a week, and yet I don't care about that either. I don't judge people based on whether they smoke pot or not, and I don't base my opinion of athletes on what they do in their spare time.
If Carmelo wants to smoke pot, throw his bronze medal he won in a tournament that he (and other NBA players and fans) considered a joke in a lake, and hang out with his "boys" and talk "ghetto," that's fine with me. Just show up on game nights and put on a show and I'll be a fan.
Is there a risk of these athletes presenting a bad image for the younger fans? There sure is, but before everyone jumps on the "holier than tho" wagon, there is a lot of negative influences being absorbed by young children on a daily basis, and the impact is felt in places a lot closer than what a distanced and wealthy NBA star is doing in his free time. I'm not saying this justifies the NBA players and other athletes presenting a bad image, but I think it's important to realize that they are not solely responsible for the "downfall" of America's youth.Enjoy football?
