        2018 Off-Season Thread

Have you guys saw the supposed “media war” between the Ball family and the Lakers? Supposedly the Lakers didn’t leak the info on Ball’s knee but rather it was Ball’s camp that leaked the info when all the trade rumors started popping up, I guess to insure he wouldn’t be moved. Apparently, the Lakers signing Rondo was in retaliation to that. And the “rumor” is if the Lakers don’t make any ground on a Kawhi trade they would explore the market for Lillard or Wall.

Gotta be “fake news” right? Or are they over the LaVar situation?

          I'd guess:

          Wizards-Raptors
          Bucks-76ers
          Lakers-Celtics
          Warriors-Rockets
          Thunder-Wolves

              True.

I’m just saying the man himself said as early as January and every time he was asked afterwards that he would resign with OKC but still wanted to test out FA. And he didn’t waste anytime at all signing back with them considering he didn’t meet with any other teams even though he had some sort of TV special that nobody watched, lol.

To me, logic would say that signing Rondo would make Ball expendable and they'd look to be trading him to acquire someone else, and likely a starting PG. Unless they wanna roll with having 2 PGs that can't shoot.

Almost as bad as the Lakers still getting Christmas games these past 5 years as well right?

New York is still a big *** market, why would they not get a Christmas game?

Probably fake news, but I think Lonzo is expendable. I was never that high on him to begin with and his rookie season did nothing to change that opinion.

As for signing Rondo being retaliation, I sincerely hope not. That is not how you manage a team.

Because they suck which is the argument given every year.

We all know why the Knicks get Christmas games. Doesn't make it any less ridiculous.

Christmas games should be a reward for teams having a great season. All guys know how special it is to be playing on Christmas. Why give it to abunch of guys who did nothing to earn it other than play for a big TV market?

Last time Bucks had Christmas game, Marques Johnson was on their team. Made East finals multiple times in the 80s, and had 1 great season during Ray Allen days, but none of that got them anything.

Hawks last had Christmas game during Dominique days. Never had any in the era right after despite winning 50+ multiple times, or even during this decade after they won 60 games.

Those are just some examples. But unfortunately, Lakers and Knicks as the worst teams in the NBA will draw more viewers than if the Bucks, Hawks, Grizzlies were top teams in their respective conference. And that's literally the only thing NBA even bothers with, is who draws more viewers. I guess people would rather watch big markets and bad basketball over smaller ones with good basketball.

It's honestly hard for me to stomach some of these moves. From the perspective of the Warriors front office I mean I get it. These are brilliant moves this franchise has made. And if you are in a position to get a guy like Cousin's for 5M then you do it.

But I'm just blown away at alot of these dudes taking the easy way out with the "If you can't beat them join them mentality"

The whole Kawhi situation. Man I might take flak for this. Actually I will. But alot of these players have such weak mentalities. It's just surprising to me.

I would think if I was an NBA star. I'd do everything in my power to get on a team and dethrone the Warriors. Because this has just gotten absurd.

I think the Lakers should hold what they have and try to get Kawhi outright next offseason. Golden State has this in the bag this year. I think the Lakers lineup now, plus Kawhi next year could defensively disrupt Golden State some. Throw Kawhi and Ingram at KD. Lonzo is 6'6" so he could bother Curry. LeBron could lock down a shooter like Klay or Draymond. You ain't outscoring those guys, may as well go the defensive route with efficient offensive capabilities.
