Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
So far it looks like word is still out there that Kawhi is letting everyone know he's going to the Lakers when he becomes a free agent regardless of what happens this next year.
Wouldn't it be worth it for the Lakers to just wait it out then? Unless they've got some sort of guarantee that PG or Bron will be coming if they land Kawhi early?Comment

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
If all rumors per Woj are true, that the Lakers are willing to take on a salary dump to acquire a future first to trade for Kawhi, and LeBron will sign for them pending that move, then the most logical return for all sides would be a 3-team move between the Lakers, Grizzlies, and Spurs.
Grizz wanted to move the 4th pick in exchange for a salary dump for Parsons. They could get a package of Randle and pieces to take back Parsons, send Jackson and next years pick to the Spurs, maybe the Spurs/Grizz get Kuzma, Kawhi comes to LAL, I'm sure plenty of filler pieces involved. But that is a 3 team combination with all sides having and wanting the same result.
Grizz get their young pieces and dump the contract, Lakers get Kawhi, San Antonio gets their future first and a top 5 guy in this class, maybe someone like Kuzma or Ingram too.Comment

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
Apparently the Lakers are working to acquire a future first round pick to flip as part of a Kawhi trade. Per Woj
I don't see the Bucks having enough to get him, not for a rental at least. Celtics unless he's agreeing to stay there should not give up one of those big pieces for him, but their Sac pick could be the most enticing asset.
@wojespn
Story includes Lakers working to acquire a future first-round pick with a willingness to accept salary dumps for 2018-19 season. Lakers could flip a pick into a potential Leonard trade, and still keep one max salary slot open for free agency.
One major thing working against them is that they can't really offer a 1st round pick due to the protections that they have placed on the pick that they owe Phoenix. But with Middleton, Bledsoe's expiring contract, Brogdon, Jabari, Thon, DiVincenzo, and if god forbid some team wanted him, DJ Wilson, they can offer a pretty solid amount of young assets/expiring deals. I think they can beat anything Cleveland would be willing to offer.

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
Let me begin by saying I in no way expect Kawhi to end up being a Buck. But having said that, they have enough assets that if the Spurs insist on trading him East (which the Woj article today says is not the case) and if both Boston and Philly are hesitant about trading their major assets for a possible rental, the Bucks would probably be next in line IMO and with their cap situation and the possibility of Giannis leaving in a few years, they could theoretically be desperate enough to give it a legitimate try.

Theoretically, yeah, they should just wait it out. But it could easily turn out to be a situation like what might happen with PG13, where they think they have Kawhi locked up in 2019 and Kawhi ends up liking his new team and decides to just re-sign there instead and then the Lakers blew their shot at an MVP caliber player because they wanted to have their cake and eat it too.Comment

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
I dismissed the possibility that they'd really pursue Kawhi at the beginning, but thinking about it more of the past few weeks, I could totally see them thinking that making a big swing like that is the only hope of getting the team to be a contender in the East and there's been some rumblings (though coming from some not-so-trustworthy sources) that the Bucks are serious about acquiring him.NFL: Bills

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
So, to summarize:
James is undecided. James is going to LA; LA, Cavs; Houston or Philly; Don't like Houston as a city; Philly not really in play; Willing to be the first in the door with LA; Not willing to be the first in the door with LA; It's about winning; It's about family and happiness; His kids are going to school here; his house is under construction; his management team is moving to LA; The Cavs can't get any feedback from James; The Cavs are moving forward as through he's leaving; The Cavs are looking at Kemba to keep James; George definitely joining the Lakers; George may stay in OKC; Kawhi's situation could impact George; George's documentary definitely means he's staying; George's documentary definitely means he's going; Kawhi's situation could impact Lebron; George, Lebron and Kawhi could play together; George, Lebron and Kawhi cannot play together; LA on the clock to get Kawhi to land James;
....and ladies and gents, there's still 3 days and some change till free agency "officially" begins smh.
Damn bruh, Mitch/Jim scarred you that bad huh lolLast edited by lakers24; 06-27-2018, 02:27 PM.Comment

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
James isn't coming to Houston (which I'm ok with) but we are probably gonna give Chris Paul max years and money (which I am not ok with). I already know this off season is gonna suck with Trevor Ariza wanting as much as he wants and Paul more than likely getting the max. Oh joy.Comment

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
I highly doubt that Phoenix is going after Capela, they were planning to before they won the lottery (and Ayton as a result) but now things have obviously changed. I expect the Mavericks to go after Capela if they can't land Cousins or Jordan, but with that if they wait too long I have a feeling we will lock him up before that. If they sign Capela to a max offer sheet either we match it (which I am not so certain we do) or we S & T for Jordan since he apparently wants to come to one of us Texas teams. Either which way I believe we are going to walk away with Capela (preferrably) or Jordan. Depending on the market for Cousins this will be a non-issue but this also depends on the market for Capela who will I don't think he is a max level guy, will still get paid at that level all things considered.Comment
