Re: If Darko doesn't play nexy year is he a bust?
Darko's minutes have increased significantly this year. He's even playing in more critical times....hell...he's even playing in the FIRST half!!!
Really, Pistons Fans will tell you...he is really starting to get time here and there, especially when Wallace and/or McD have been out.
If the statements are based on the National Broadcast against Indy...he won't play in those kind of games. Their big guys are too finesse for Darko. He played some quality minutes against Shaq this year though.
He's averaging 7.2 minutes per game (up from 4.7 last year).

Re: If Darko doesn't play nexy year is he a bust?
I don't think Darko's a bust. However, I don't think this is a good situation for he or the Pistons organization.
He's not going to go "poof" and magically turn from a 10th man into an All-pro...so even if he continues to develop at this pace, he's looking at year 4 before he gets to start and play consistent minutes, and year 5 or 6 before he becomes an All-Star calibur player. By that time, his rook contract will be up, and the Pistons will have to pay DEARLY to keep him (without knowing if he's going to have the mental consistency to become a perrenial All-Star) or risk having gotten absolutely nothing from him in his Detroit tenure. He may very well bitterly resent LB and the organization by then...and go somewhere else anyway. Thats a big risk. It would have been better for a successful, veteran-laden club like the Pistons to get someone better equipped to help right away, someone to step in and help them to maintain their elite status. A Tayshaun Prince type who could start within a season or two. Carmelo is obviously a bad fit, but a 4 year guy like Wade, Hinrich, or even TJ Ford would have complimented this team nicely. I think Dumars got a little greedy with Milicic, his only mistep so far . Also, it prolly would have been better for Darko to find himself in a situation where he could take his lumps and build his confidence on the floor, instead of working, working, working but still being told your not good enough yet...
I don't think Darkos age or status as a foriener are still a valid excuses, but Its still too early to call him a bust. The Pistons are simply paying him for his "college" years, IMO.Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: If Darko doesn't play nexy year is he a bust?
I would trade a #2 pick for a championship ring anytime.
However, if you take a look at the Pistons before the Rasheed Wallace trade, they were a little shallow at the bigs spot. Tayshaun was showing potential, Rip Hamilton can play 5 games in a row without stopping, and Billups was playing solidly. Some people thought Darko should have been picked 1st (idiots).
Darko obviously has some game hidden behind his bleached hair and lack of confidence. And that's what he needs right now, some confidence. Dude looks scared everytime I see him play.
And, I hate to use it as an excuse, but he's only 19/20 years old, and was first playing in front of a big market in his rookie year. They say he does amazing things in practice, which means he's got it in him. But he just needs some game experience and he'll blossom very quickly. Maybe getting out of Detroit would be the best thing for him. Or possibly slipping in behind McDyess to come off the bench.
