Howard came to meet Lakers after dropping 25 pounds; showed his back was healthy. Lakers want him to protect rim/rebound in limited role. There was sense Howard realized he hit "rock bottom" and had been humbled. Still they'll judge him on actions, not words. He's been warned.

I know lol. But I get it though. The Lakers are definitely not **** around mode. So when they cut him. He can't have hard feelings.

Cause I can't think of any way a team would sign him at this point.

Who could possibly feel bad for Melo? That would take some Cirque Du Soleil level contortion.

Feel bad for how the Rockets cut him loose and also for the fact the game has moved past him and he doesn’t know how to catch up. He could be one of the best bench scorers in the league but as much as he talks about it, he’s not coming off the bench. He would have a big night of scoring 30 or something off the bench and there would be calls for him to start from the hot take media.

Melo is washed up, done. Needs to call it a career.

Has the game REALLY moved past him or is this a matter of narratives controlling the situation?

What I mean is Dwight(another player who folks said couldn’t fit in “Today’s NBA”)is getting another opportunity after doing his summer media tour telling teams again about how much he’s changed and how he’ll be a different person again and he’s getting another opportunity. And he’s had his last 3 teams be quick to get rid of him and those teams be excited that he left.

I don’t think he’s being blackballed but it’s also a bit naive to think that he can’t fit in “Today’s NBA” as if the game has changed THAT much over the last 4-5 years, when it really hasn’t. That’s the one constant argument I’ve heard people say against him.

He is even willing to accept a lesser role if that's what it takes to do so. "I don't think it's about basketball anymore." Anthony said, "I think it's about me as a person willing to accept certain roles on a basketball team. Am I willing to accept a certain role on a basketball team? Yes. I'd gotten to a point in Houston where I had to accept that role, and I was just getting into accepting that role."

The question is is he willing to fit in to today's game in a way that makes sense for him AND for a team. Or will he just condescendingly laugh off of the idea of him not being a starter/main weapon, in a pre-season press conference.

He’s already answered that question though, that’s why I posted that quote in the first place.

But of course we won’t find that out until games are actually played. Same with Dwight.

The US basketball just lost for the first time in 13 years and for the first time ever to Australia.
