Well, anyway, good luck with him. I'm glad the Pistons didn't re-sign him but that doesn't mean he couldn't be effective in the right environment.

ISO Joe back in the association. Joe Johnson has agreed to a partially guaranteed, one year deal with the Detroit Pistons. He’s the first player from the BIG3 to land an NBA deal

Gotta say it’s pretty damn amazing that Shaun Livingston is in a position to be able to decide to retire. After his injury I don’t think anybody ever thought that would be a possibility. And now he’s a three time world champion.

I see him becoming a coach. I've always had a soft spot for him. I thought he was going to change the game when he was going to Duke. He made the visit to nba combine which was being held in Chicago on the bus for a week. He signed with an agent the second week. Big fan of his. I'm so happy for him.

Good for Joe, but what is Detroit doing? They've signed every single available dude so far, this is gonna be a 20 man rotation somehow. It's like we're countering the "big three" NBA strategy with a "medium 10" gameplan, then sign the MVP of "big three" and it'll work out!

James Harden about to go on a tear

              Travelling approved.

The NBA Board of Governors today approved new language in the NBA rule book that governs traveling violations. The revision will not change the substance of the rule but will help eliminate the gap between the rule as written and how it has been applied in NBA games.

              — Marc J. Spears (@MarcJSpearsESPN) September 20, 2019
The official NBA rule book will now have a section that formally defines the “gather,” which is a concept that has been used by the officiating staff for many years to apply the rule but was never defined in the rule book. https://t.co/D5CNExFHqp

              — Marc J. Spears (@MarcJSpearsESPN) September 20, 2019
So basically the refs made up a fake rule to explain why they weren’t calling travels and the NBA just gave up https://t.co/xZxH7Z7t3

Can't quite figure out what to make of it so far. One article referenced the changes as tightening travel rules: https://www.foxsports.com.au/basketb...e241dbe2d8b97e

Originally posted by Byron Spruell, NBA president of league operations

The fact that the president of league operations said he wished to make travelling a point of emphasis with these changes seems to suggest they might be trying to rein things in a little.

The definition of a gather being added:

                  b. For a player who is in control of the ball while dribbling, the gather is defined as the point where a player does any one of the following:

                  (1) Puts two hands on the ball, or otherwise permits the ball to come to rest, while he is in control of it;

                  (2) Puts a hand under the ball and brings it to a pause; or

                  (3) Otherwise gains enough control of the ball to hold it, change hands, pass, shoot, or cradle it against his body.
And then the incorporation into travelling:

Originally posted by NBA Rule Book

                  • A player who gathers the ball while progressing may (a) take two steps in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball or (b) if he has not yet dribbled, one step prior to releasing the ball to start his dribble.

                  • A player who gathers the ball while dribbling may take two steps in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball.

                  • The first step occurs when a foot, or both feet, touch the floor after the player gathers the ball.
Maybe I'm just really picky but I wonder if the new additions clarify things enough. Among many Harden examples, I still think of this one:

                  <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/QWoWc9rucXo" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Is his left hand considered to be below the ball and/or has he brought the ball to a stop? If the answer is yes to either of those questions, then his dribble seems to have ended while both feet are on the floor. He shouldn't be considered to be progressing at that point, so does he even get two post-gather steps? Because it looks to me that both of his feet being set at the time of picking up his dribble should mean his next option traditionally would need to be establishing a pivot foot (by whichever other foot is lifted first).

Honestly, I've lived and rolled through enough accommodating rule changes over the years (including previous relaxations of travelling) but allowing a lot of the Harden stuff was a bridge too far for me. Some of those four-step moves were so wacky that I could hardly recognize the game I've known for so long.

Man they didn't call it last year they won't this year either.

Remember the Ricky Rubio guarding Harden on one was a controversy as well

Just saw that they have reached a 1 year deal.. he’s still young, athletic, and has potential. Probably a great environment for him to succeed in.

They actually have some really decent young prospects, as well as DLo and WCS being really young as well. They’ve set this up to be able to compete for many more years if their original 3 stay healthy.

Do they have a back up PG at all? Or just plan on always having one of Steph/DLo on the court.

Everything I've been hearing is they're moving Jacob Evans to more of a lead guard role. Obviously he'll mostly spend most of his time on the floor with one of Steph or D'Lo, so it's not that big of a deal, but in all other scenarios I'm assuming he'll be the point
