    Re: 2019 Offseason Thread

Being fortunate to be in the position he’s in doesn’t mean anything lol. We’re all lucky to be in the position we’re in but I’m sure the majority of us have suffered or will suffer with some kind of stress, anxiety, depression or all of the above.

I kinda think mental issues on this board should be treated with the same mentality as racial and political issues because I always hear some ignorance (for the minority) whenever they come up.

I would say most popular players have depression. Some probably don't even know it.

DeRozan says he dealt with it

And for the record to the passive aggressive comment about depression, I'm only stating the comments people have been addressing.

Nobody said anything about depression. That's a completely different conversation

We're talking about basketball. I don't have time to be another one of these wanna be internet doctors in here, give me a break.

As was already said, Lin loves the game and wants to play. I doubt most of these guys retire on their own accord. They retire because they get no offers or because their body can no longer hold up. Some, of course, just want to be done with it. Lin doesn't seem to be the latter and he's still relatively young before he can blame injuries. He's an elite athlete who likely believes he can come back from anything.

Whatever it is you enjoy doing, imagine being told you can't do it anymore or no one caring about that thing. You'll feel like it's rock bottom too. No amount of millions or success is going to change the fact that you are being denied the opportunity to do what you want to do at the highest level.

              Appreciate the honesty take

I think most people are glad to rookie all over Melo though

He was pretty much abided in Hou and nobody felt bad for him. They blamed him for their losing record even though there team had injuries

I guess it depends on who it is these days

I don't think it's depression that is keeping Melo from playing, though. Maybe it is? Who knows.

Melo is a meme now. It's gotten to the point that I don't even process the comments anymore because they feel forced.

Depression is not keeping anyone from playing.

Houston jettisoned Royce White for mental health issues but you don't hear those cases much, especially now.

Lin turned down some CSKA offers. He has some offers in China too, just waiting on a good enough NBA gig I guess.

What he should've done was fire his his agent not cry.

Melo has probably been blackballed but it's all jokes.

Why does it strictly have to be mental health though? Lin was pretty much trash in Toronto this year wasn’t he? Feel like I remember him getting ripped in here for being awful for the Raptors near the end of the year? Nobody was talking about mental health for Melo not getting a gig or Iverson’s situation back when. Does Lin think he’s a starter and he’s not getting those offers or is he not getting offers to be a bench warmer either?

What does him being trash have to do with his mental health? If anything that probably just makes it worse.

Lin crying in public doesn't necessarily means he has any mental health problems.

Plenty of players before him have been "denied the opportunity to do" what they want to do, that's, I suppose, how the majority of player's career ends.

This might as well be a case of "over sharing". Normal reaction at the process of being rejected but playing out in public.

Lin has actually come out and said he battles depression....even when he was getting job's, he said it's driven him to want to retire. So it could very well be that he's battling that, rather than this just being him extra whiny about not landing a roster spot...
