It's a narrative award though, that's why Gobert gets no love. Someone pointed out that Giannis has nearly identical numbers this year as his first MVP yet he's not even considered a finalist. We all know it's a narrative award, this is just further evidence suggesting so.

Yes, and one of the biggest narratives this season has been the Jazz's unexpected success lol

Just weird to me is all to see Chris Paul and Devin Booker ahead of him in most of the media's MVP rankings

Giannis not being considered a finalist is probably just due to fatigue; no one wants to see the same guy win it 3 times in a row

I mean it's all a moot point because Jokic has it locked down, anyway

Awful season for the Celtics. Almost have to wonder how much blame should be put on Stevens - not for the injury, but for the poor season in general. Kyrie and Hayward aren't there to take the blame anymore

I blame the offensive creativity on him or the lack of it and his usage of Semi/Grant etc on him but other than that idk man this season sucks.

I mean I get it, Phoenix had a crazy turnaround, but nobody had the Jazz being a Top 3 seed this year, let alone the best record in the NBA. And with Mitchell and Conley missing significant time now, Gobert has been willing us to a lot of wins

Well then throw Julius Randle’s name in the hat while you’re at it.

It won’t be unanimous so let him get a vote or 2.

I think there is just a general understanding of the way that CP3 runs/leads a team is something that won’t really show up comparing his numbers to someone else. The fact that he went to Phoenix and they jumped to a top tier team in the west is part of the equation sure, but I don’t think them just acquiring any player with solid stats would be getting MVP love like CP3 is getting.

Julius 100% deserves to be in the discussion

That same logic can be applied to Gobert as well. He dominates facets of the game that don't show up in box scores. You can't just replace him in Utah with another center who scores more and stuffs the overall statsheet more than Gobert and expect the same success

But I digress. MVP is typically an Offensive Player of the Year award anyway

This is what I think should happen this off season, it won't but it should, Brad Stevens goes to Pacers, and Sam Cassell or Ime Udoka becomes the Celtics coach. Both teams would flourish IMO.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Pretty much. The media runs the conversation, and the media wants the new story. The sad thing is people just go along with it

Westbrook just broke the all time Triple double record. Also Hunter came back for Atlanta tonight which is key for the playoffs.

I think Gobert doesn’t get the love because most people still believe the team is going to go as far as Donovan can take them. I agree in a sense, we can say Gobert is the “most important” in many aspects and many metrics but I don’t think anybody considers him the “leader.” Or just the cornerstone of the franchise in general. Why would he get consideration over Embiid for example if they were looking at big men who led their teams defense. If the Hawks were a 1-2 seed would we be saying Capela is the MVP? It’s a similar discussion.

For what it’s worth Giannis is 3rd in the most recent Kia ladder. So it’s not like he isn’t getting consideration. The race is typically a year long thing. He started a bit slow, the Bucks in general as well. Both Joker and Embiid have been a bit more consistent over the course of the entire year. That’s why he’s 3rd IMO.

That said, Joker should be damn near unanimous. So it doesn’t really matter. Embiid and LeBron maybe had shots before injury, Embiid back in it enough to take a few votes. That’s about it.

I don’t think it can because regardless of that not a single NBA person considers Gobert to be the type of leader a guy like CP3 is. And his track record of being that ties in to his outlook in this season. I mean LeBron might be the only player people group in that convo with him.

Nothing more fitting on the night Westbrook breaks the record then him ending the game shooting a 3 point down 1 with 5 seconds to go Instead of driving .

It was a clean look, he just came up short.

Surprised it came down to that considering how much Atlanta controlled the game throughout and that Beal was out.

Props to him breaking that record though.
