The difference is those #'s are only possible when Dampier is healthy abd playing with Henderson aswell.

In other words for the next 2 weeks Dallas will allow a high point total because the key to their defensive improvements were both Dampier and Henderson down low and they don't have that luxury right now for about two weeks. I wish people would take this into consideration because those two guy's are huge assets and until they return Dallas has to go small ball again meaning Dirk moves to Center.
I respect there new found defense but 97 Points per game allowed is high for a NBA Champ.

I don't question your theory about the last two NBA Champions but remember the NBA this year has evolved into a more uptempo style of game now with Dallas and Sacramento now being joined by Phoenix, Miami, Washington, Seattle, Orlando, Boston and few other teams playing more at a higher tempo than before. Detroit and San Antonio are great defensively don't get me wrong but sometimes the pace of game can also inflate defensive #'s aswell.

Based on your theory about past NBA Champions that would eliminate these teams from winning the title this year. These are the top 5 offensive scoring teams in the NBA and it's not a coincedence that outside of Detroit and San Antonio this are also the top teams in the League.

      1)Phoenix-110.3
      2)Sacramento-103.1
      3)Dallas-103.0
      4)Miami-102.0
      5)Seattle-101.2

Now here's how each team stacks up defensively in points allowed per game.

      1)Miami-96.48
      2)Seattle-96.66
      3)Dallas-97.3
      4)Sacramento-100.6
      5)Phoenix-102.3

      Defensive FG%

      1)Miami-.429
      2)Dallas-.436
      3)Phoenix-.446
      4)Sacramento-.452
      5)Seattle-.457

Now if you base this off of past NBA theory then Miami which is considered the East favorite ranks slightly ahead of Dallas in Def Points allowed per game and Def FG%. Yet, there isn't a forum member here or expert that I have ever heard question Miami's defense. Why is that?

In contrary Dallas actually ranks 3rd in the NBA in point differential behind only San Antonio and Phoenix.

While that has been a recent trend, trends are always broken, and the opponents Field Goal percentage number is a lot more important than the absolute total. So long as they score more efficiently, the absolute number shouldn't matter.

I'm not going to predict a Finals matchup because there is still a lot of basketball to be played and teams will suffer injuries. However, what I will say is that if every team is at full strength meaning Miami gets Shaq back, Phoenix has Nash, Sacramento has Peja and Dallas has Dampier and Stackhouse this is what I think the conference finals will look like once we get down to the final 4 teams.

Miami vs Detroit-Which will be the #1 seed vs the #2 seed in the East.

San Antonio vs Dallas-Which will be the #2 seed vs the #4 seed in the West.

Yes, I believe Phoenix will get the #1 seed and Seattle the #3 seed out West. However, here's where the situation changes in round two. I honestly believe you'll see Dallas beat Phoenix and the Spurs beat the Sonics both in 6 games. I just don't think Phoenix is strong enough inside to beat Dallas once Dampier is playing and Seattle doesn't have any semblance of an inside game offensively or defensively to combat Duncan.

I like the Suns but I just keep thinking the wheels are gonna fall off. You have some interesting takes on the playoffs, the MAvs will really need for the Suns to finish strong and get the #1 seed. Spurs are a deep team with alot playoff experience and the later in playoffs you can play them the better.
