Now he I remember. He was the star of the out of nowhere New Mexico State team a couple years ago.

Re: 2/24 - 3/7 Games Discussion Thread
Well he didn’t play lol but yeah he’s not fulfilled expectations regardless.
For all the talks of the Lakers flawed roster and everything else I still think his lack of development has hurt them more than any one thing. Sure the roster is still extremely flawed, and they can’t stay healthy, but the expectation was he was going to be the piece that fixed a lot of that.
Which in a way does make sense. He was a guy who “in theory” defends lots of positions, does things well with the ball in his hands, crafty finishes, solid passer, good handle, makes back cuts, and even rebounds well too.. he’s a unique player, I still think he reminds me of a Manu skill-set Barkley body type of guy.. and if all of those things were clicking then it becomes a bit understandable why losing Caruso and trading the other pieces for someone to “carry” when Bron is out did make some sense.
It just hasn’t worked out. Not everything always works out lol. I feel like at some point THT had a few bad games and his confident was just gone and he never got it back. I’m sure trying to adjust to a smaller defined role played a part in that too. He’s so hit or miss on what you get from him. He’s literally had games where he’s played 30+ minutes and went 1/13 for 3 points and 2 boards, and games where he’s shot 9/18 3/6 from 3 and went for 25/12/3.
The handful of games he’s been “good” he’s been really good. Those just don’t come with regularity at all. And every game he feels “shook” for lack of a better word. Second guessing everything, either being too aggressive or too passive. Just not been a good year for him.
Personally I still think he can be the player they envisioned him to be. Don’t think that’s happening this year but this year has been a disaster for them all. Give him the off-season to just reset and I think he can bounce Back. Of course he could also be traded so who knows, I still firmly believe he should have been playing 30-35 minutes every night from day 1 to build confidence and bounce back, but he’s too late for that. His absolute worst nights are no worse than playing Ariza anyway so why not lol.
Also part of me wonders if he’s 100% healthy too. He went from a guy they could stick on Kawhi defensively last season to a guy that left them feeling like they needed to make an emergency singing for Johnson this year. Mental aspect can play a role on that end as well, and their team defense is just way worse overall, but still his individual impact there has been far less than what he’s showcased he is capable of in the past. He was labeled from Pelinka to be “that guy” for them defensively this past offseason. Just the grind of a bigger role could be part of that too. He came back from injury rested and fresh averaging 23/7 over his first 3 games. He’s been up and down since.Comment

Just letting y’all know…y’all ain’t gonna see Ben no time soon. Been dealing with a back issue for the last week and and a half and he hasn’t started team work in practice since he was traded.#RespectTheCultureComment

I think he had back issues that took him out of the playoffs in the Bubble and he had back issues when he showed up to training camp this year as wellComment
