Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
Mike is the greatest player ever, but he's also one of the biggest douchebags to ever step on a court.
I know the internet and Bulls' fans will fry him, but I'm not shocked that guys like him, Longley, Grant, and others that actually knew Mike (personally) say negative things in retrospect.
And again, that isn't taking away from his greatness or accolades. He was just allowed to be a mega-******* cause he was extremely talented.
Plus, Pip probably means that Mike was a "horrible player" as in he was a selfish, "me first, second, third guy" until Pippen and Phil Jackson came along.
If half of what Sam Smith wrote back in the day is true, then yeah, he was a "horrible player" (really means teammate).
This isn't even mentioning all the personal anecdotes about how much of an ******* he was even in his days in DC. That guy is an ******* plain and simple.

And I'll also say that I'm not even a fan of Pippen and have always thought he was (from a historical sense) overrated. I'm not "cappin" for the man, I just think when he bad-mouths Mike it doesn't solely come from a place of bitterness.
Partly, yes, but Mike was probably not the easiest guy to get along with or to be around.

Man listen lol
If my ex teammate’s SON was smashing my ex-wife….man I’d say Slava Medvedenko was a better player than MJ. He definitely gets at Mike like it’s personal and tbh there’s no way it can’t be if you look at everything he’s said over the years.
Idk it’s funny to me because the only time he gets attention is when he uses that man’s name and starts talking.Last edited by ProfessaPackMan; 05-26-2023, 06:17 PM.#RespectTheCultureComment

"NBA’s Competition Committee is in serious discussions on awarding teams a second and final challenge if first challenge is ruled successful beginning with the 2023-24 season, league sources tell @NBAonTNT, @BleacherReport."
I like this. Just because there almost always seems to be obvious challengable moments early in games that gets passed on because you don't want to use your only challenge early in games
But there's obvious reasons why this would be a good move.Comment

I'm all for games being closer to 2 hours total time. Even as a Sixers, the Free Throw Contest games aren't always appealing. But, I can see a scenario in the second quarter where having the confidence of a successful challenge that saves a guy from a 3rd foul benefiting a team and still having another challenge in your back pocket.Comment

And the people up in arms about the quote are widely people who have no issue with that type of take being made about other players who’ve had those same tendencies that aren’t MJ.
With that said he’s just said too much **** at this point regardless. Only defense he would have would be they asked him a GOAT related question and MJ is largely considered the GOAT. Otherwise he basically just brought up MJ again in a question that had nothing to do with MJ.Comment

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
They don't really enforce the current rules for flopping. Back in 2012 or thereabouts they implemented some anti-flopping rules that included fines. When is the last time you heard someone get fined for flopping?
I mean sure I'm all for this new technical rule, but it won't mean much if it isn't enforced. The refs have to stop giving the benefit of the doubt to the offensive player and stop assuming that a foul occurred. It seems like that is what happens a lot, a guy attacks the rim and the ref just blows his whistle because he thinks the defender probably fouled
For one, this is just another fake *** rule that they made because Twitter/social media wines about flopping. It’s not a rule that will actually change anything, it’s to make morons think they’re getting something they aren’t. The NBA does this almost every year.
It’s not different than the “must play 65 games to win MVP” bull**** because people cry about sitting out. Nobody since Bill Walton has even won MVP playing 65 games (or the equivalent in shortened seasons). The rule changed nothing, it’s irrelevant, but it sure made the internet happy [emoji23].
Also like Dub said the majority of these plays aren’t even really phantom flops. It’s exaggerated reactions to actual contact/fouls to make sure they get the call. In which case you really can’t tell a player how something should effect him. Bron tries to sell a flagrant every time he’s hit in the face or groin. But you can’t tell someone how to react to being hit in the face or groin either. So we already know this largely changes absolutely nothing, but it will appease the morons who don’t watch a single game but get sucked into whatever the latest clip they saw on the internet makes them believe the league is all about.Comment

People saying how they’re good with it, I hope they remember what they’re saying when back complaining about games being “too long” or having too many “stoppages”.
Gotta pick a side here.#RespectTheCultureComment

Official HQ of Bills Backer/Spurs NationIn the context of his quote this is 100% what he was saying and his point overall on the topic outside the MJ bit isn’t even a bad take.
And the people up in arms about the quote are widely people who have no issue with that type of take being made about other players who’ve had those same tendencies that aren’t MJ.

That man hasn't set foot on an NBA basketball court in a uniform and sneakers in 20 years and any beefs that he's bitching about now are even older. Is it about more than just being bitter? I'm sure it is but let's not sit here and pretend like the majority of this is being bitter and trying to cash in on MJ for relevancy when he needs money. Scottie does this nonsense every few months/years where he'll pop out of obscurity and say some off the wall **** about Michael and Phil (lately) and get himself some attention in the news cycle only to disappear back into irrelevancy until he does it all over again.
Again Michael is obviously no saint, but that man has gone out of his way to praise Scottie Pippen every single time a microphone or camera has been put in his face and that goes all the way back to their playing days. I don't think I've ever seen Michael say a bad word about Pippen and has always attributed that he doesn't see the level of success he has reached without Scottie Pippen. The same Scottie Pippen who refused to go into a playoff game because a play wasn't drawn up for him, but sure he's the gatekeeper of selfishness on the Chicago Bulls. No Tippin' Pippen can relax for little while.Comment

No one is ever going to argue that Michael Jordan wasn't an ******* to a lot of dudes that he played with like plenty of guys throughout the history of NBA.

From humble beginnings to 6 championships, 2 gold medals, a place in the Hall of Fame, and leading the Bulls franchise with a record-breaking 123 playoff wins in 11 seasons. Here's to the unsung heroes... Cheers!
Yeah this isn't about any bitterness just Michael Jordan being a selfish jerk 30 years ago. Coming from Mr. "I wasn't gonna **** my summer up" himself.Comment
