He's going into the HOF. Will Nets retire his number?

What's interesting about this timing is that he's going into the HOF the same year the Raptors are celebrating their 30th year and could very well retire his number this season as well (still an unpopular decision for part of the fan base, but those fans are ones who'll never forgive him anyways when most fans have, and it's been proven his exit wasn't entirely his fault/wouldn't be anywhere close to the last time a star player on an NBA team wanted out badly)

If the Nets also retire his number next season, would it happen before the Raptors who also plan to do it that season? And when was the last time a guy got his number retired by two franchises in the same season?

General question: When you hear the word “ rebuild”, what do you think it means or entails?

For me, I usually think of rebuild or reset as for change. Rebuild, for me, is the drastic change of tearing it down and trading off non-young players who you don't feel are building blocks. I think of a Reset, I think of trading off a key player(s) in order to change the identity. I'll use ATL as an example for both. I would consider a rebuild being trading off Trae, Murray, Capela, Bogdanovic and using the draft picks over the next couple years to hope one is a winning lottery ticket. I would consider a reset trading off Trae and Capela and using the incoming picks to either get a win-now player or young guys to change the identity of the team. I think a reset would be the better option than to try to get off all the big contracts

Trading / letting expire all significant money contracts. Accumulating picks, tanking or sucking for a few years while getting high lottery picks.

Seems he only said it on his podcast this week.

But it would make sense if a deal is already done and they're waiting until after playoffs or at least until after the TNT coverage this season is done.

In 2024 I think it means equal parts tanking, releasing/trading away anyone over the age of 24, not paying anyone, collecting as many draft picks as possible, and hiring a coach no one has ever heard of. And then praying that a winning culture will emerge.

I wish Silver chose TNT over ESPN
That ABC halftime show is a abomination 🥱
But I'm glad NBC got the B package
They got the best cameras of any sports network!

With the current NBA media rights deal coming to an end, the basketball broadcasting landscape seems likely to undergo a huge shift.

Gonna be black day in broadcasting when Inside signs off for the last time. Zaslav has completely ****ed that company. I don’t think he’s done a single popular/positive thing since he’s been in charge

NBA ratings are getting lower and lower every year and I can't imagine how this with more streaming services is going to help people that are actually watching the games

I feel like other than Football, especially the NFL, all of the American Pro League ratings are getting lower. And even with that, the NBA is still doing well all things considered. But I’m also going off the head so I could be wrong here.

I heard the 1st round ratings were down 9% from last year and college basketball tourny ratings were up. I can't remember the % the ratings were down from 10 and 20 years ago, but it was staggering like 70% or something like that

Not that I care about NBA ratings (seems like this discussion is brought up every season or off-season), but they need proper context when discussed.

First, cord cutting is going to continue to negatively affect sports ratings (minus the NFL) and the NBA has few games on regular, 'over-the-air' broadcast networks (NBC, FOX, ABC or CBS).

I wish they'd keep TNT, while bringing in NBC to do more nationally televised games. ESPN/Disney/ABC should be airing more games on ABC , but instead they put games on paid cable in primetime.

The NBA's current TV deal leans too far towards cable viewing, but that is the exact viewership that is shrinking the most.

I'm not sure if this proposed new deal is wise either, yet it's clear Silver/the league is looking at monetary increase and not viewership growth.
