    Re: NBA Off Topic Thread

If there was any path to salvaging Nico's rep, the latest ESPN article isn't helping.

He somehow looks worse...even if there's nothing in the article attacking him personally or even off-handedly.

I'm sure that was ESPN's goal, to some degree...but still...

At this point, it's best for Nico just needs to stop talking and work in silence. Everything he says comes off as incompetence and being so out of touch. How is going to say that he didn't know how much the fan base loved Luka lol

        He keeps talking, though...

Literally hours later, another headline on espn...

"I didn't realize how important Luka was to the fans..."

        .... wow.

The NHL is doing a different draft lottery broadcast this year.

Instead of doing the lottery behind closed doors and then revealing the results to fans on tv, they're doing the lottery on live tv.

I'd take "boring" authentic live ping pong balls than just having people revealing team by team the order that was already decided minutes or hours ago.

The NBA should do this too. Have the lottery draw on live tv rather than just reveal who gets what spot.

That type of transparency would be more appreciated. I rather see the process, even if it takes longer. Seeing the end results only, takes a lot of the intrigue out. Seeing the ping pong balls process of a team go up from let's say 8th pick to #1 pick would be more fun than the deputy commissioner reading the results.

That's what makes it fun too.

Obviously from a TV point of view, you cant show people all 1000+ possible combonations and which team has which combonation (although the chart was available online to view), but the second the first ball is drawn, assuming you have computers/stats people or other things which can instantly show you every teams odds of winning after each ball gets drawn, that'll make it fun too.

Didn't they use to show the lottery balls? It may be a faulty memory but when Houston won the lottery and picked Yao Ming, I remember Steve Francis being their "representative" for the lottery drawing. He and every other lottery team rep sat behind a gameshow type podium and all watched the lottery unfold in real time

Anyone check out the Shooting Guards Netflix documentary?
I didn't think it was worthy of a doc and feel the same way after watching it. And I'm not buying that the locker room incident is what sent him on his path. It was just another stop on the path he already set for himself

Yesterday was the anniversary of the famous "practice" press conference. The 76ers currently have 4 players who weren't even born when that moment happened.

I never realized this rant happened after the season was over for them. He shot 38% from the field that series...maybe practice would've helped.

Also never realized he played over 40 minutes per game every season! Looking at that now compared to guys today would be like comparing baseball starting pitchers today to before the 90s.

That specific situation was about a friend passing and him being asked about practice. But, you do have to wonder if he had the Kobe-esque work ethic and a more disciplined off the court lifestyle, how much more better his career would've been. He will always be one of the top 75-100 players of all time and a cultural Icon. But, I feel he had a higher ceiling if he had a stronger work ethic. For a small guard that relies heavily on athleticism, once they lose a step or get injuries, they fall off a cliff quick.

He didn't have the most help on Philly either. They benefited from the weak east for the first half of the 00s.

Too bad he went to the Nuggets in his 30s, but they kept getting caught by the Lakers. Prime Melo/AI would've been something special.

Realistically with his frame I think he reached his ceiling.
