Most of that same generation you’re referencing also probably wouldn’t care if Vince played one more year with the Raptors either though.

His merch still flies off the shelves, so I think they know about him at least and of course have seen the highlights, it's just the way he left wouldn't sting for them.

Yeah I was originally going to compare Toronto's relationship with Vince to Detroit's relationship with teal, but I didn't like putting one of my all-time favorite players on the same level as teal.

But anyway, those old enough to have lived through the teal Pistons era have a pretty tenuous relationship with it. We'll begrudgingly accept it as a retro but insist it never goes any further. Meanwhile, it's all good for the young guys who were never there for the first go-around.

Similarly, those around for Vince's exit from Toronto often still have a tenuous relationship with him. But a fair share of Toronto fans who weren't around for that seem to have an easier time forgiving and forgetting, likely finding it more worth their time to embrace the good in VC's era.

Same with many jerseys from past eras.

I know how much people made fun of the "Barney jerseys" for the Raptors, but nowadays its looked back on fondly.

I know when they went from purple and black to red and black and kept the same look and logo and had the colour changes, people were happy with that.

Now when people look back on old Raptors jerseys, they aren't talking about using 2006 jerseys as throwbacks or anything, it's the early 00s with Carter and the 90s original ones they like.

I wonder why the Lakers went away from their original color scheme? That scheme would be dope today with a creative art team behind it.

Looking at the whole Mount Rushmore thing from this angle who would y’all vote? I know in terms of popularity and marketing guys like MJ and Bron are massive, Jordan with his own brand as a bonus, Kobe globally was huge. But just influence on the league in general I think I’d have to lean Russell, Magic & Bird, Steph

I would take off Kobe and add one of the 3 guys you named probably Magic

Curry with the Helio/3's revolution, MJ with Nike/Gatorade/etc., movies, crossover appeal, taking the league to another level after Bird/Magic and LeBron basically created the current NBA ecosystem/Player Empowerment movement with The Decision. At first glance not sure what Kobe is doing there.

I guess I might do it Magic/Bird (combined), LeBron, Curry and someone from before Magic/Bird or David Stern if you open it up to non-players.

In terms of mainstream influence, Magic Johnson is way above Steph. I get that Steph helped shift the style of play, but Magic was a key player in elevating the NBA in the entertainment space. But stuff like this always has a recency bias to it.

Man, I'm from right outside the DC area (PG County to be exact) and no one has ever considered the Gil Zero/Butler/Jamison - era (sprinkle in a little MJ & young John Wall, respectively too) jerseys a "classic." [emoji38][emoji38][emoji38][emoji38][emoji38]

Why not go with the Webber - era or the actual classics of the Elvin Hayes/Wes Unseld - era? I'm gonna have to email the PR department and complain about this one.

Side - note: Thank goodness it isn't the black/gold alternates that was rumored and they're going with the regular home white with blue/gold trimming.

What an abomination right there with the Kings' old gold/purple alternate. [emoji1785][emoji2961]

Shams said the league is retiring #6 league-wide to honor Bill Russell.

Not a fan of the decision TBH
