Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever. -
Re: February Games Discussion Thread
But Mitchell and Bam weren't taken top 10. That's what I meant. Of all the guys originally taken top 10, Ball is still a top 3-4 guy from that group. If we're talking every guy from that draft, he's borderline top 10/late lottery at worst.Comment

Re: February Games Discussion Thread
It's just my reverse uno card. If you pick a player outside of the lottery and he becomes a superstar let's say Kawhi or Jokic.or who ever. Like is Bol Bol a bust. I'm just trying to understand the president here.
Is Marvin Williams a bust? Recently retired had a solid career in my opinion. Like James Wiseman, he was drafted on the worst team possible. He really should of been drafted by a team that needed a wing.
I have list here. I'd love to hear your opinions bust or not.
OJ Mayo
Jeff Green
Dion Waiters
Shazz Mohamed
Jabari Parker
Jahlil Okafor
Jaylen Brown
Myers Leonard 10 contract for the Bucks
Giannis just needs to wait for the pain to stop to return to play. That's amazing news
Edit: I was confusing Marvin with someone else, he wasn't as touted of a scorer as I thought, so no bust
OJ Mayo: Lean Bust. He fizzled out hella quick and was like the reverse development arc. Each year saw him seemingly get worse.
Jeff Green: No, a solid and lengthy career.
Dion Waiters: Don't remember the expectations well enough to say but looking at his profile on bball reference I lean no, just a disappointment.
Shazz Mohamed: eh...I guess? I don't know, 14th is kind of getting to that position where it seems like half of all draft picks fail so have a hard time labeling that a bust. Picking there is almost acknowledged to be a roll of the dice, whereas a top 5 pick the minimum expectation is higher.
Jabari Parker: No. He never reached his best case ceiling but to be a bust you have to fail to even reach the minimum expectations imo
Jahlil Okafor: Yes.
Jaylen Brown: uh...wut? Feel like you must have some kind of evil scheme
behind asking about him.
Myers Leonard: Yes
(btw, think you want precedent not president, but I'm still not understanding what you mean by reverse uno card)Last edited by ggsimmonds; 02-20-2023, 11:55 PM.Comment

Re: February Games Discussion Thread
Edit: I want to specifically call out the bolded because...are we sure he is still a bust? He's a starting pg five years in, basically same numbers Lonzo was putting up. This goes back to whether bust is tentative or if there is finality to the label. Myself and probably most others were calling him a bust when he left Philly, but seems like his career is fighting back after being on life support. I may not have removed the bust label from his name, but I might have added a question mark at the endComment

Re: February Games Discussion Thread
Agree but its the "if" that is intriguing to me. A few years ago the league was ready to write him off completely. I didn't expect to see him back in a starting lineupComment

Re: February Games Discussion Thread
True true. From what I've seen of him he's still super inconsistent, and the highs aren't high enough to make up for it. Orlando has been willing to give him some decent minutes at times this season. I'd say there's a good chance this is his top form, and biggest opportunity he'll get.Comment

Re: February Games Discussion Thread
Meyers Leonard being a rotation player at 11 feels like much less of a bust than almost every guy you listed above him. If you were to re-draft that class he could likely go as high as 7th.
Marvin Williams is weird because he was just drafted way too high to begin with. He wasn’t a starter in college and got drafted 2nd overall anyways. They were loaded, and he was a freshman, but that draft/mocks leading up to it felt so strange to me at the time.Comment

Re: February Games Discussion Thread
Yeah think I confused Marvin with his teammate McCants or another wing from another draft. I thought I remembered watching that draft and Marvin being described as a proven scorer that can come in immediately and lead his team in scoring. I googled it cause it was bugging me and they would not have said that about him.
In fairness to Marvin he was the best pro from that team. Most of those guys just weren’t NBA level players. Just good college players.Comment

Re: February Games Discussion Thread
But yeah I feel like everyone kinda knew that Sean May wasn't gonna pan out in the NBA. He reminded me of Lonny Baxter (Terps) from the few seasons before. Too small to play the 4 or 5 in the NBA, far too slow/rotund to move to the 3.
Marvin is kind of like Chris Wilcox from that Terp squad. Wilcox came off the bench for the Terps our championship season, but was the first one drafted purely due to potential. Different type of player though. Wilcox was more of an athletic post up guyComment

I hate myself right now. It was Adam Morrison I was thinking of smh. How tf can I forget and confuse someone else with Adam F'n Morrison

Remember that squad well, big Juan Dixon fan at the time. That’s back when the whole Mountain Dew bottle cap thing was around. My brother and I ended up getting a winning cap or something I can’t remember exactly how it worked. Was supposed to get a Juan Dixon jersey and they sent me Jay Williams from Duke instead lol.
Kinda random that Steve Blake probably had the best pro career from that team. Washington ended up with damn near that whole team on the Wizards for a bit [emoji23]. Along with Haywood and Jefferies, Kwame obviously, none of those dudes panned out.Comment

Random fun fact I remember, NCAA March Madness videogame had a freshman Steve Blake as a high flying ankle breaking black guy. It was like they pretty much just copied over Steve Francis from the previous season, changed the jersey to 25, and set him to a freshman. Imagine my surprise the first time I saw the real life #25.Comment

I remember watching the Terps and thinking that Dixon had the most beautiful shooting form imaginable (I may have been a bit biased)

Random note: I played in the same flag football league as Juan Dixon years ago when I was still in DC. He was QB for one of the teams from Baltimore. I think he’s the HC for the Coppin State’s Men’s BBall team right now.
Don’t know what happened to rest of those players from that MD squad now that I think about it. But yeah, them boys were nice.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: February Games Discussion Thread
Those Maryland Duke games used to be even more fiery then UNC and Duke. I remember those well.
I remember when Maryland blew a 10 pt lead to Duke in literally a minute before the end of reg. Yep they pulled a McGrady. My hate for Duke was already at an all time high.
I found the clip smh.
Juan Dixon was so nice. Thought he was gonna be a superstar in the NBA. I'm guessing injuries derailed him.
