Trey making a trade request is coming at some point and this offseason someone would overpay you for him. Remember he is a clutch client as well.

The owners are to blame as well as they are trying it win to make Trae happy who wanted Murray (Clutch guy I think). Then also save $ and avoid the tax. Trae making all nba team may have them huerter.

Setting aside the always present LeBron hype, are the Hawks this season's biggest disappointment? Murray was a huge get for them, and just two years ago they were in the ECF.

They are definitely headed in the wrong direction. They are not going to do it but I'd consider exploring Trae trades before he makes a trade request.

Last I heard he wasn't even able to run near full speed. I'm still thinking he attempts a return, but as a significantly diminished player. But this seems like a 35 year old getting injured kind of situation. One of those "do I rehab it in order to play at the risk of having issues later in life that affect my ability to enjoy a normal life" types of deals.

You don't think if Atlanta shops him first and starts a bidding war it could lead to a slightly higher asking price?

Or are players so empowered now that as soon as a team entertains a trade, its the same as the player in essence demanding one

(what i mean is that in the NFL the Ravens could for example explore Lamar trades and if the return isn't high enough they can not trade him and keep him, but if you try that in the NBA the player would be like nah you looked into trading me so I want out, call em back and accept that offer)

This is 2 in a year for him on the same knee and idk if it’s going to get any better without something being sacrificed for him.

          I think it’s the latter.

Once that player makes a trade request to a certain team, it’s pretty much a lock to happen, it’s just a matter of how soon.

And if they just rescind it and say nah I’m cool, fans will always be waiting for that shoe to drop again(see KD and the Nets as the most recent example).

Nets have locked up HC Jacque Vaughn to another extension, this time adding another 3 years to his deal.

They're definitely headed in the wrong direction, but I also think that ECF team was objectively maybe not even a top 10 team in the league that season and never really projected to be a real contender IMO so the drop off isn't quite as pronounced as you might think. Still, definitely have taken a step back this year and feels like significant changes will be made in the offseason.

                Re: February Games Discussion Thread

I don't see Atlanta trying to trade Trae I see him asking for a trade first. They have already been some rumblings of that happening this year.

The issue with Trae is that he isn't a plug and play guy to any team. You have to build your team around him as he isn't going to play defense and is useless on offense without the ball. He is also terrible inefficient this season one of the worst shooters in the entire league both FG and from 3.

While I do say the owners deserve some blame from the Huerter trade. Overall, it's not like the front office has done Trae some big injustice with a bunch of terrible moves. They haven't been any 1st round pick busts outside of Omari Spellman and that was the last pick in that round. The players signed in FA that summer were productive. They filled the team with defenders and shooting around him for the most part.

So assuming Atlanta loses in the 1st round or play in then Trae i assume will get the heat or should. Because nobody talked about how awful he played last playoffs vs Miami.

It's going to be tough IMO, because are there really any teams out there, even traditional doormats of league, who would want to build their offense around Trae after having seen his body of work for a few years now. He can't be THE guy if you're really trying to win big.

Agree finding a trade partner for him in real life is much harder then 2K. Also Atlanta gave up 2 future unprotected 1st for Murray so they can't just tank for years to come. It would have to be a bad team like Houstin, Orlando or maybe OKC just because the draft pick situation.

Don’t think it will be that tough.

Remember, we tend to look at certain transactions thru the Basketball Only Lens but best believe there are Owners out here who will make trades for certain players because it’s good business and they’ll bring in more fans. Or because they think he’s the “missing piece”.

And that’s not even including the fans who will get excited just based on potential and believe that it’ll be “different” for their team.

Can’t say I’ve heard it described better

Shannon Sharpe on Zion Williamson - injuries:

“He’s a Formula 1 car in an 18-wheeler’s body. All of that starting and stopping is a lot on a man that size.”

Yeah realistically not every team is making moves with an eye on being a championship contender. I don't think it will be hard to find a trade partner, but my hunch would be that your typical Hawk fan would overestimate what they could get in return
