Per Woj:
"In meeting with management today, Knicks forward Kristaps Porzingis expressed his concern with the losing, franchise direction and an uncertainty that a culture is developing that will enable sustainable organizational success.
Porzingis wants to play for a winner in New York, but is searching for clarity on his future role with the team and Knicks direction. Porzingis - out with an ACL injury, can be a restricted free agent this summer."
Give him the max, I'm sure he'll get hurt and we're ****ed for 5 years. Let him go somewhere else and I'm sure he's MVP within 3.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

It'll be interesting to see what comes out of press conferences about this. How much worse can this franchise be made to look?Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

The Knicks are the Electronic Arts of the NBA.
Spend a lot of money to put out a bad product.
Charge people insane prices to enjoy the product.
Always announcing a new three year plan.

Re: The 2019 New York Knicks: Feel the Fiz
It's worse because it could swing so far either way. This could be amazing for us or it could be an absolute disaster. It will take at least until he signs an extension with them to know how it goes from that end, and years for the picks to see how it goes for us. Good thing this fanbase is known for its patience...
My biggest thing is not even that he was traded, but the return. I get the cap space angle, but bruh. I would put a chance at a major free agent signing with this team at 0%. If we get Zion, maybe that goes to 10%. No one with a top pick this year would've taken a shot at him? Is it too early to point out we probably could've gotten Markannen and their pick if we had gone through this when Phil wanted to?Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: The 2019 New York Knicks: Feel the Fiz
Mills said they talked to 8-9 teams over the course of the last couple weeks. Assuming that's true, Dallas's offer was the best on the table. Ramona Shelbourne said the Pelicans turned down a KP-based offer. Maybe our fanbase overvalued KP; I know a lot of our fans overrated him a bit. I would also much rather take this deal than one that included a younger player on bad contract.
This is the NBA in 2019 where cap space and 1st rounders are uber-valuable. I don't know if it's true but I read this was the first deal since the infamous Nets/Celtics trade that included one team shipping out multiple first rounders.
From one mildly insane point of view, this was a shrewd move. KP is a second banana, that's clear. He's not a #1 on a contender. He'll be 24 at the start of next season, is 7'3", has injury concerns, is coming off a major knee injury, already has problems dealing with the grind of an 82 game season, doesn't want to play the 5, and is a 43% career shooter despite being 7'3". He's also a diva who was unhappy here, demanded a trade, and supposedly threatened to sign the QO. The relationship was dead. It sucks but our FO felt they couldn't repair it and had to move on.
We didn't have a max slot. Our FO has been trying to move Hardaway and Lee for months; it wasn't going to happen. We long-assumed we'd have one max FA slot but that wasn't going to come to fruition and the FO realized it. We weren't going to have a chance to be a player in the free agency market this summer. While I don't like the swing-for-the-fences strategy at face value, it kinda makes sense here.
I will go on the record as saying I don't think we'll land any big fish; we never have and I won't believe it until I see it. But...Perry is close with KD's agent and the rumor is KD is interested in coming here. If you're KD and are interested in the Knicks, what interests you more: a young core whose "Robin" for you is a 7'3" kid who might not be himself again; who isn't in his prime and isn't good enough to make you an instant contender. Or would you rather have another FA star of your choice who's older, in their prime, healthy, and better than KP?
The big things going forward...
1) Does our FO waste the last four months of tanking and keep and play DJ and Matthews? If these idiots screw up the tank this late in the season they should be fired. You can't make a trade like this then contradict what is very clearly your goal. Mills said they aren't buying them out: is that lip service or is he serious?
2) What happens when the elite few FAs turn us down? Do we throw a max at Tobias Harris and Khris Middleton?
If we stay flexible and continue to tank and get high-end lottery picks then our future is still okay. We have years to continue to trust the process and do this the right way if we strike out in FA this summer. It is possible for us to have our cake and eat it too."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

2) Depends on the draft. I we fall to #2 or lower, no one is coming here. Keep these kids on their rookie deals and sign 1 year contracts to fill out the roster. That would be my approach. Mirror what the Sixers did until they hit in multiple drafts.Comment

Re: The 2019 New York Knicks: Feel the Fiz
I could buy this being our best offer, coming off the injury, and that after this year KP's cost controlled status is over, his value isn't as high as it once was. Plus the initial reports didn't really mention the 2 first's, when you add those in value doesn't seem that bad.
Basically plan A is to sign Durant, and Kyrie or another top max free agent. I would think they are pretty confident that is happening. However, they could certainly be misreading things, or, even if they've been told straight up Durant is coming and to get the 2nd max slot, plans can change.
Plan B needs to be, commit to tanking, building through the draft, and adding assets. If that's the case, we committed to a longer rebuild, but potentially are in better shape in the long run. It can't be maxing out Tobias Harris and Cousins. If it was just Perry I'd feel semi confident. Steve Mills is such a moron though, who knows.
And I would think Matthews and Jordan will be shopped, and then bought out if nothing works out. There's just no logic behind playing them with the way we've handled this seasonOriginally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: The 2019 New York Knicks: Feel the Fiz
That would be a DISASTER, but it's a typical Knick move.
Unfortunately, the Knicks will ALWAYS try to hit the home run....I've seen it for decades, no matter who's in charge. Our current owner and FO aren't smart enough to do it like Golden State. Their stars weren't high draft picks.Comment

We also offered him to PHX for the #4 pick (Josh Jackson. I'm stunned PHX said no to that) straight up a couple drafts ago, per Woj."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier
