Re: The 2022 New York Knicks: Kemba Comes Home
Just to see where everyone’s head is at, where do we stand on including RJ for Onovan Mitchell? I am not a fan of bro but I’m also with BigEast in that I’m not really sure if there’s another step for RJ to take.
A lot depends on what the next RJ deal looks like. If we sign him now for what he’s worth (5/90-100) then he’s golden in my book. If he waits, we have to worry about someone overpaying to try to **** us, word to Jeremy Lin. But I’m also not sure he’s the guy you break the bank for when we see Ayton isn’t even getting a lot of love. Then there’s the third case where he shows out this year and proves himself worth the max or whatever, but that feels like a pipe dream, less than 1% chance kinda thing.
Can’t trade for Donovan I believe because he signed the rookie max extension.
This team isn’t going anywhere any time soon. Sign RJ on a team friendly extension (not a max) and look to move on from Randle if possible.
I don’t know any team that would want Randle though. I feel Fournier has more trade value than him.Comment

Re: The 2022 New York Knicks: Kemba Comes Home
We don’t have anyone currently on the designated rookie extension so we could still trade for him. Nets hands are tied because you can only have one and they already have Ben. Onovan is still on the table as far as I know.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Oh didn’t know that.
Looks like a fire sale in Utah.
Brunson/Donovan backcourt >>> Brunson/RJ backcourt
Knicks don’t have the balls to do it though.
IQ, Obi and picks for Donovan?
I don’t think Utah would want to take on additional salary so they wouldn’t take Fournier or Randle.
Don’t know but I’d be on the phone right now.Comment

Re: The 2022 New York Knicks: Kemba Comes Home
I wouldn't trade for him yet. I'd hold off until during the season to see if he wants to force his way out. The price teams are paying for guys like Murray and Gobert and whatever the cost will end up being for KD scares me. I'd want to see Randle rehab some of his trade value too, there's no way he can be as bad as last season and he should be able to turn back into a net positive asset. If he's just at 18-9-3 on 45-35-75 splits with more defensive effort and less crying to the refs he'd be viewed very differently.
I do think RJ has another level, he just turned 22. I'm just not sure how high it is or how long it'll take. I'd rather figure out a way to pair RJ and Spida than Brunson and Spida but don't know if that would be possible. No way Leon trades his god son.

The 2022 New York Knicks: Kemba Comes Home
I’ll need to see him this season and maybe reassess. A guy who has a dude on his team that covers for all of his weaknesses and won’t even pass him the ball just screams loser to me but it probably hit me harder because of all the times Mitch runs the floor and the only one who can find him on a lob is RJ.
I’ve warmed up to Brunson the past few days. I really see him as a younger, better version of current D Rose who obviously turned out season around 2 seasons ago so I’m at least interested to see how this plays out. I was indifferent to trading Fournier mostly because he at least does what I expect him to, but we’re hoping Quickley or Grimes can do that with some defense anyway so I get the urge to move him.
Garland just signed for the rookie max. Why is life like this?Last edited by DieHardYankee26; 07-02-2022, 11:43 AM.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: The 2022 New York Knicks: Kemba Comes Home
Garland has been an All-Star and led his team to the playoffs. There is no justification to offer RJ the max.
Donovan has to demand a trade.
That’s the only way we’ll be able to get him at a decent price.
Calling up Utah right now after what they got for Gobert would be a futile exercise.
And I’d give them 2 or 3 unprotected 1st rounders but no pick swaps.Comment

Re: The 2022 New York Knicks: Kemba Comes Home
The fact that Garland is an all star is what I was lamenting. We had the 3rd pick in a 3 man draft that miraculously turned into a 2 man draft as soon as we got the 3rd pick, but it actually was a 3 man draft, and we just picked the wrong man. Cleveland surrounded him with better players as well.
I’m down on RJ but it’s mainly because he’s so inconsistent. Never know what kind of game he’ll have every night.Comment

In situations like this I always take solace in the fact that if we drafted Garland we would have butchered his development and he wouldn't be as good as he is in CLE. Hell, he probably would probably be coming off the bench still if he were a Knick because Thibs would be whining about his defense."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

The 2022 New York Knicks: Kemba Comes Home
SL Takes
I’m officially a Feron Hunt stan
1. Gotta start with our 2nd rounder Keels. Looks exactly like I thought he would. Needs to spend the entire season in the G-League. Not impressed but I understand the Marcus Smart comps now.
2. Feron Hunt is what I thought Cam Reddish would be. Keep him on the roster. As great as the dunks were I was most impressed with his defense. The way he anticipates passing lanes is impressive (7 steals and made them look effortless). IMO we need a defensive wing in the worst way. I know he wouldn’t get minutes under Thibs. But he needs to be suited up every night. Brings crazy energy and (unlike most of the league) doesn’t settle for jumpshots. Always takes it to the rim. Love this kid.
3. Not concerned about Grimes shooting. But I think it’s fair to pump the brakes on him starting in the regular season. Brings way more defensively and athletically than Fournier. But I’d prefer Grimes finishing games over Fournier.
4. Sims. This kid. Not sure what he does worse than let’s say Clint Capela. Maybe defensively he’s a notch or two down. But he is the definition of a rolling center. No one can jump with him. Makes Mitch’s contract look like a clear overpay.
5. Deuce is always steady but he won’t get any regular season minutes. Jeffries looked like a solid G-League player.
6. Want to see more minutes for Montero. I like this kid a lot.

Re: The 2022 New York Knicks: Kemba Comes Home
My thoughts so far:
- Quentin Grimes - He needs to start in the backcourt instead of Fournier. Shoots with confidence every time, even if he's off. Plays hard on D but has shown a lot more flashes of playmaking ability here in SL than he did last season. He's also finishing well around the basket and looks like he's too good to be playing in the SL.
- Miles McBride - As BigEast said, steady. His biggest issue is he can't create space or beat defenders off the dribble by himself. He always needs a screen to get free, but he's so good shooting off the screen whether it's the middy or the 3. However, because he can't seem to beat his defender without that, he's very limited in his ability to create for others or himself outside the PnR.
- Jericho Sims - Looks like prime Dwight Howard playing in SL. Love seeing him push the ball up in transition and create for himself beyond just catching lobs. He had a nasty cross-over to spin move and double-clutch finish last night, but not sure if any of this will translate to the regular season.
- Feron Hunt - Long and athletic, does a great job reading the passing lanes, getting steals, and running in transition. If he and Obi were on the floor together, they'd have 20 fast break PPG between them. Beyond this, not sure if I've seen him make a jump shot and he'll have to prove he can make a corner 3 to have a chance at making the roster.
- Jean Montero - Shows good feel for the game and is under control, but isn't in the best situation because he has to play off the ball much more than he has traditionally. He'll be playing in the G League all next year.
- Trevor Keels - Jumpshot looks good, nothing else does. Unlike Deuce, he shows he can get to the lane off the dribble, but has 0 ability to finish. Not athletic enough to finish over help, not crafty enough to finish around it. No floater and no short-range game whatsoever. Has possessions where he plays defense that would be considered "good" at a college level, but not good enough at the Pro level. He'll probably need 2-3 years in the G-League.

Do you guys think Onovan is better now than Melo was when we traded for him?Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

I’m trying to talk myself into this trade but every time I close my eyes I just see store brand Dame and CJ. I guess if they aren’t going to tank, we might as well at least try to win a playoff round.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it
