Re: The 2022 New York Knicks: Kemba Comes Home

Steve Kerr didn’t build anything as much as inherit so I really just meant the optics of leaving a playoff team in the middle of a run. I don’t think he has the ego Pat had, he’s a passenger. Dolan didn’t really become Dolan until the middle of the Van Grundy run, Pat didn’t have to deal with him like that.

Ironically, part of the reason he left is because at the Heat, Mickey Arison was the only guy to answer to. Cablevision/MSG is still a conglomerate, but he probably would’ve actually appreciated Dolan as the be all end all but we were just getting shuffled between so many messy situations when Viacom bought Paramount, and then sold us to Cablevision. I also feel him on that though, you’re seeing all of these people cash out for millions and millions of dollars and you’re being told they can’t expense you 10 grand.

Oh my god I just saw the Givony report. If this happens, you see a report about someone being arrested for trying to fight Leon Rose, and I don’t post here for a little while, just know that these things are all completely unrelated.

Riley’s ego was warranted. He came to the franchise with rings.

The guy left and got rings.

Again I don’t know the specifics but you can’t let a guy like that out of the building. We were a POS franchise behind the scenes.

Can you imagine being so good at your job and your boss tells you how you should be honored to be here and you’re not getting anything more?

I’d tell him to kick rocks.

So far, under Leon Rose, the Knicks haven't made any dumb trades *knocks on wood.*

This would be a dumb trade but sounds like something Thibs would really push for. I'm putting my trust in the recent history of them ignoring what Thibs would want.

There's a very high chance I'll be wrong, though. :/

            This.

One of the biggest mistakes this franchise made was not giving Pat the power he wanted. NY might have been what Miami is now, instead of a dumpster fire over the past 20 years. Will this current group turn things around? Meh, not getting my hopes up. Knicks front office has a habit of (eventually) getting in their own way, no matter who's in charge.

He said his biggest mistake was not subbing in Rolando Blackman when Starks was ice cold in a game 7. The speculated reason among the team? Blackman asked if the team could bring their wives on the trip to the finals and Pat didn’t want them there. Checketts let the wives come. Imagine a guy throwing a Finals away because he wanted to punish someone for wanting their wife on the trip. Then he quit on the team. He was too much of a coward to even admit to the FO he was leaving. He resigned via fax. **** him.

Subbing out Starks wouldn’t have guaranteed us a win. Petty and dumb as hell though.

That place was toxic. In hindsight I don’t blame him. Could he have done it in a more professional manner? Sure.

But we don’t know what it was like walking into that place every single day.

As a kid, I didn’t like it. But in retrospect, I can’t fault the guy.

And Checketts shouldn’t even be brought up. Dolan snipped his balls a long time ago. He always looked like a scared puppy.

I think you’re looking at it through Dolan colored lenses when he wasn’t involved at the time. But I agree having your coach have back room meetings with other team owners days before you play their team is absolutely toxic. Asking for 10-20 percent of a public traded company is so wild and such a clear sign he was never going to stay so having him leave the way he did probably was best for all sides.

You’re giving me details that I didn’t know but it doesn’t change my opinion because I would’ve thrown the bag at him anyway.

                    I can’t convince you that he’s not a rat.

But put yourself in his shoes for a minute.

He was a legend before he got here. And he won here.

Why not ask for more, even the moon? Would you?

Ever interviewed for another job before work, during your lunch break, or on a sick day? Did you care that your company was up against a deadline?

So what if he got 20% of Cablevision? I’m one who doesn’t really care what front office people get paid because it has no bearing on the cap.

Riley knows how to win. And we’ve gone through head coaches and POBOs like underwear since he left while being the absolute laughingstock of the league.

Think that had no effect on free agents?

If he stayed they would’ve built him a statue in front of MSG.

Re: The 2022 New York Knicks: Kemba Comes Home

Cablevision only owned 15% of the team, we were being controlled by Rand Araskog and ITT at the time, an industrial manufacturing conglomerate. They were paying off the Nazis in WW2 and involved in the Chilean coup in the 70s lol, it was just never going to happen.

I definitely have used vacation time to get a day off to do an interview and go from $20 to $35 an hour, but I live in an at will employment state where I can be fired at any time without cause, and have no salary guarantees or a contract. If your situations are more relatable to Pat Riley being the highest paid coach in the league, being offered double his salary by the team, and then negotiating with a full year left on his contract then you probably relate more to him than I do.

When Robinson Cano left the Yankees for a 10 year 240 mil contract, I didn’t care. Get your bag. Just don’t do it at the expense of the team. If his contract was up and he dipped, is what it is. Whether or not it was as bad as it looked, it looked very bad. It’s why I don’t blame OKC fans. Let us go up 3-1 on a team, fall apart, and then we find out you were being courted by the opponent and leave us for them? Man wut? This guy faxed in his resignation and then fled the country to Greece like he was Roman Polanski lol. He knew what he was doing. He made a great decision for himself, and he couldn’t even stand on it. The move itself, you have to respect. But it was nasty work getting there.
