The 2022 New York Knicks: Kemba Comes Home

I try not to think about it because I don’t think it’s going to happen.

Yeah my biggest concern would be having a backcourt with two 6’1 guys. That’s problematic.

    And then the cost.

I’m fine with getting rid of:
IQ (essentially we wouldn’t need him anymore)
    Rose
    Fournier
    Reddish
    Randle
    Hartenstein
    Keels (lol)
    3 1st rounders

Don’t want to get rid of Obi. Don’t want to get rid of Sims.

Grimes I’d like to keep but not sold on him ever being a capable starter in this league.

RJ. Not untouchable but it doesn’t make sense to me to give him up based on the remaining roster construction.

Would Donovan get us into the playoffs? Yes.
Out of the 1st round? I doubt it.

We still need more than him.

I was never a Melo fan but he was miles better than Spida in his prime.

Well I spent like 45 minutes watching his highlights this morning to try to talk myself into this so we need to strike while it’s hot and before I change my mind. If this happens we need a dope city jersey too because I already know me and my brother will be getting each other jerseys for Christmas. Just keep RJ.

Dude..I was JUST thinking about how I’m copping a Mitchell jersey. And I don’t even buy jerseys.

              I’m in disbelief right now.

I'll just say this....Red Auerbach was famous for fleecing teams, and Danny Ainge learned under him (just ask the Nets). I'd be wary about dealing with him.

Fournier + IQ + Cam + all the picks that aren’t ours (4 1sts, mostly protected and Dallas next year) + our 2023 first and 2025 first

If that’s not good enough they can talk to Pat the Rat for the privilege of giving the 6MOTY a max.

This is the wild part to me. We're about to go all-in on a backcourt that would be considered small in the college game.

As for the trade, Spida isn't good enough to empty the cupboard. I'm not a huge fan of him as a player but if we can acquire him while hanging on to Barrett I'll enjoy my ECSF exits for the next few years. I don't really care about anyone else on the roster but we need a properly filled-out rotation. This can't be the Melo situation again.

Ainge is going to ask for the moon, especially after what they just got for Gobert.

Quickley, Toppin, Reddish, Fournier's contact + picks.

Swapping out Fournier for Randle works as well but I doubt Ainge wants a 4-year $100m+ deal on his books. Randle does not strike me as an Ainge type of player anyway.

I'm all for making the trade and figuring the rest out later assuming we can keep RJ. It doesn't sound like RJ is available, plus Utah would have to pay him which they may not want to do in year 1 of a rebuild.

I just don't see comparable players to Mitchell being available or having interest in coming to NY. The idea of a star wanting out and wanting to go to the Knicks has been no more than an idea for the last 10 years. Mitchell may not be in that upper tier of star (yet), but he's only 25, high character guy, and experienced in the playoffs. There's not many players with that resume and we don't have any players on our roster that have that kind of ceiling.

I'd try to keep Obi but if that's what pushes the deal over the top, so be it. Even if we keep him, he won't play more than 20 mins a night because he'll be stuck behind Randle and we paid 3 pure Centers this offseason.

I’ve cooled all the way off on Onovan, but as far as the trade I’m somewhere between “Sell the farm? This is the dust bowl” and “you have me all the way ****ed up.” Like individually I wouldn’t mind getting rid of anyone, but he’s trying to do us like the Nets. Ainge is hitting the Pookie a little too hard.

I was hoping someone would say he was better than Melo because some of these proposals are infinitely worse than the Melo trade (which was never even the problem in the first place, the problem was them wasting the amnesty on Billups instead of Amare but I digress). At this point, just wait for the mid-January report that Ayton punched Booker in the face and the Suns need to blow everything up. I’m kidding but also I’m not.

Yeah. I’d rather give up Grimes than give up Obi.

If we have Brunson, Donovan, and RJ - these 3 are going to get the bulk of PG, SG, and wing minutes.

Yeah we need a 3&D backup that can give you buckets. And yeah Obi wouldn’t get minutes because of [insert name].

But I have a thing for Obi that is more than I feel about Grimes. I think Grimes is gonna be a good one. But forward thinking says- [insert name] has come up in trade discussions. Ainge doesn’t want him but maybe, just maybe someone will at some point.

Easier to replace a guard than an athletic PF gazelle in my opinion.

I don’t think Randle is going anywhere. I’m not sure I’m even upset about it. He was way more efficient the two years before he came here because a lot more of his shots were assisted. Brunson and Onovan should be able to bring that back out of him. He put up .600 TS% two years in a row on 16 (in 26 min) and 21 PPG. Are we sure Obi can do that? We’ve been talking about the lack of point guard play since he got here, now we might have it and we’re going to trade him? Have to at least see how it plays out.

I just realized you have been giving Donovan without the D….lol

Ok problem here is. That guy has been good because of his usage. Thibs gave that guy free reign as a Point Forward.

That guy no longer has to bring the ball up the court.

Will he become a jump shooter? A post up guy? He should but his numbers took a hit last year and they’ll take another hit this year.

At least now (here is my sell) you can run the floor with Obi. The only PG that ever looked for Obi was Rose.

Basically we no longer need what that guy was doing.

With the ball out of that guy’s hands more often, Obi would be a bad matchup for defenses in an offense where he can cut and one of our guards gets him the ball. He was useless the way we were playing before.

Definitely agree there, and if Obi can get his shot up to a respectable level, with the pressure Brunson and Onovan should be putting on opponents with their drives, he’ll have a lot of room for cutting to the basket or attacking close outs. We almost need him to be the starter because all of Brunson, Onovan, RJ, and Randle need the ball.

I just really can’t shake the idea that this front office has the worst luck imaginable or are just throwing **** at the wall. We passed on Haliburton (which would’ve rendered a lot of these issues moot) to draft Obi, though Obi has grown on me a lot. Then Randle turns up for a season so he can’t play, bad luck. Now we go out of our way to sign Brunson, cool. Then Onovan becomes available immediately, I’ll give this one bad luck I guess even though we kinda knew what was up there. On a smaller scale, we gave Mitch $15 mil a year, then signed Hartenstein…then sign Sims. I really like Hart’s passing and he’s young, and Sims does a lot of the same things Mitch does, obviously not at as high a level yet but I would not have shed a tear if Mitch left and they just went with those two. I just have no idea what kind of roster they’re trying to build.

I do really like the descending contracts they’re pulling off. When the cap jumps, we’re going to be in a good position whether it’s trading guys or just having cap space available.
