Biggest news to me is that James Dolan is giving full authority to the front office to make the decision. I know he's been better in recent years but I'm always waiting for the hand of Dolan to descend upon the team.

Not surprised at the news though. Him playing the young guys and using small lineups over the past couple of weeks probably helped his case. The players also seem to still think and speak very highly of him which shouldn't go overlooked.

I knew he wasn’t going to get fired because he’s the guy the front office picked and that would reflect poorly on all of them so I was braced for this. Them and the moves they’ve made are the bigger issue so I figured they’d want to keep their human shield.

The "Thibs Cycle" is going exactly as it has at his previous stops but it's tough to fire a guy after the '21 season he had, even though it was clearly a fluke. In the real world, that has earned him a long enough leash to get one more season, even though we all know there's a strong chance he'll be fired after the '23 season.

I am far more curious to see how the FO tries to dig themselves out of the hole they got themselves into last summer. The future looks very bleak as long as Randle is here.

He’s only playing them because of injuries.

If Rose was healthy, you’d never see Deuce and you’d have a lot less of IQ.

If Noel was healthy, Sims wouldn’t sniff the floor.

I’m all for continuity. But..Thibs and Randle are tied at the hip.

I have no problem with them extending Randle last year. That’s what you do when a player earns it.

My problems were ignoring the PG spot and giving big money and years to Fournier.

I also wish we didn’t trade for Reddish. I’d give up 2 1st rounders to move up for Ivey.

That pick we gave up wouldn't have been enough to move up in the draft, especially with the protections on it.

I'm coming around a little bit on the Fournier contract, I feel like that's about the going rate for a shooter of his caliber. He's the 19th highest paid at his position slotting in between Joe Harris and Gary Trent Jr. He makes considerably less than guys like Tim Hardaway Jr and Buddy Hield but has shot it better and has been healthy this year.

I just don't feel like a lot of our roster fits together well around Randle as primary playmaker. There just hasn't been much on the PG market unless we wanted to throw 20+ mil at Dinwiddie.

We have enough assets to trade up in the draft.

I’d much rather have Harris or Trent if it really came down to it. He’s a really piss poor defender and has never really done much in his career to justify that contract.

I agree about Randle. Thibs just gives him the keys because there isn’t a capable PG able to run the team. It’s a decades plus worth of neglect for one position.

It was discussed ad nausem after the game last night but nothing sums up this season more than Thibs playing Taj Gibson the entire fourth quarter and having him switch on to Trae and being left on an island to get cooked. Amazing stuff out of Thibs.

Talking about Obi but projecting about Randle.

I’ve been so done with this guy. This is his TWolves stint 2.0.

Re: The 2022 New York Knicks: Kemba Comes Home

Unsurprisingly the team looks much better without Randle. Ball moves better, offense flows better, we get better shots, we play with more pace, defensive rotations are quicker, more energy and hustle.

I've enjoyed watching RJ really emerge into an alpha, especially over the last 2 games. He doesn't show a ton of skill, but he's just really embracing what works for him which is putting his head down and getting to the basket by any means. Then he's reading the D and either finishing, drawing a whistle, or finding the open man.

Fred Katz and Dan Devine both wrote about RJ's change in play since New Years:

Since New Year’s Day, Barrett is averaging 23.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. And while it’s notable that his 3-point stroke has looked good—nearly 38 percent from deep on more than six attempts per game—it’s more significant that he’s been absolutely pounding the paint:

Without explosive athleticism, Barrett still struggles to finish inside, shooting just 56 percent in the restricted area—well below average for a wing. But the mere act of collapsing a defense and getting the ball deep into the paint can help a team that ranks 25th in half-court offense but sixth in both offensive rebounding rate and second-chance points. And since Barrett, a 69.4 percent career free throw shooter, struggles at the stripe, it’s best to buy in bulk: Seven of his 14 career games with 10 or more free throw attempts have come since mid-January.

Quickley has also played well, with 15-5-4 on 47/43/88 splits over the past 15 games.

I think one of the biggest keys to unlocking Barrett's offensive game is his improved euro-step.

He's really gotten down the Harden-esq "initiate contact into a euro step move". He's not in a hurry on it anymore and he's so much better at letting the defense react and then giving them a little bump. He was a poor finisher around the rim coming out of Duke and this has helped him create and finish easier looks. He's a bull coming downhill nowadays.

Haven’t seen a player get blocked as often as him since Melo, maybe he will be a Knicks legend after all.

16 & 9 for Obi averaging 33 MPG w/o Randle these past two games.

Small sample size but in the 5 games as a starter this season, Obi's averaging 13-8-3 on 61/36/73 shooting splits. I'd take that and more touches for everyone else over Randle's inefficient ball stopping.

Watching **** like this makes me really think about whether making a trade for Westbrook would be worth it. Maybe we could buy him out and just move on completely.

There’s tons of videos on this clown not sitting in huddles during timeouts, slapping Obi away, not helping teammates up.

I’ve never disliked a player on the Knicks more than this guy. Usually I’m mad at a player who isn’t good.

But with him, he’s just a miserable POS who’s feelings are hurt because the fans can’t stand him and don’t treat him like the star who he thinks he is.

I would absolutely not ship him off for Russ’ expiring contract. But I would add picks if necessary to move him out of here. He’s a poser. Fake tough guy who is delusional about his talent.

Get him the hell out of here.

Edit: I’m pretty sure just based on their body language that his teammates despise him.

Forgot to add also that he’s probably jealous as hell that the fanbase has embraced RJ so much.
