True, but it is comparable if you own both system.

          Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?

This from TyrantT316. A nice balance review.

From a boxing fans perspective: These fans are looking for a boxing game to represent the skill, artistry, realism, grit, personality and authenticity of the sport.

          From a casual gamer's perspective: Sluggish, slow, can't throw 5000 punches a fight, I don't like it.

          ------------------

First Impression: Presentation is lively and graphical. The fighters may not look as polished as Fight Night ROUND 3, but they are detailed and solid.

Gameplay: The gameplay is quit difficult from the get go. It is a bit sluggish and movement isn't very easy when you begin. I personally expected movement to be quicker. Punching is also not the most responsive and can be inconsistent when throwing combinations or single shots.

I wish we had the typical 3D movement where UP always brings you forward and down brings you BACK.

The funny thing is, due to the slow paced movement, and somewhat sluggish punching, this really is a game of timing and being smart. Unlike ROUND 3, this is not about who can throw combinations the fastest. A lot of my fights go rounds and rounds (especially my fights with my brother in law. 12 round fight with 3 minute rounds and KOed him in the 12th round in one of our fights)

The game's collision is not that good. It is very noticeable in replays. Clinching is a bit harder than ROUND 3, but actually serves more of a meaningful purpose. The fact that you can use it to build energy SOMEWHAT makes up for not being able to fight in the clinch. At least you're doing something.

The damage system is one of my favorite features. It is short term/head and long term/body damage. Land a few nice combinations cleanly and your opponent may be hurt enough to fall. Work the body, or land throughout the rounds without really opening up for spurts, and you can break your opponent's long term damage down. Due to this damage system, you have to fight smart and defend or gain energy when possible.

Stamina also makes this a sim game. Stamina depletes fairly quickly as you throw punches and combinations. You will barely notice your fighter initially getting slower until you begin getting tagged with shots between your punches. So it is not over the top, dramatic "'uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuggghhhhhhhhh" like Fight Night. It is a bit more subtle which is a nice tough. So this forces you to be focused and throw when you need to.

Adrenaline rush is not a huge impact on the game. Your fighter can throw a little bit faster for about 4 seconds, but your opponent can still fight, counter, block and defend.

Trainer advice between rounds in exhibition is useless. Just "I think you won that round, do better!" banter.

Reach IS a factor and you can box from the outside or inside. The dashing is not arcade like, it is useful in moving and evading punches. Dashing depletes stamina as well. The sidestep punches are also not gimmicky as you don't want to overuse them.

You really hurt your opponent through well timed and placed punches and mainly combinations. The days of throwing a 50 punch combo are gone. Your temporary stamina pretty much depletes after about 5-7 punches and you need to catch your temporary stamina back. So be careful.

          Pros:

-The sluggish gameplay is a weakness that becomes an advantage in the sim department. Couple that with stamina and damage system to make for a more tactical game.
          -Ref stoppages
          -Reach factor
          -Learning curve
-Gameplay feels authentic and not arcade like
          -"Boxing" Presentation
-Stamina & punch damage mechanics carry sim aspect over something like TPC
-Create a boxer is more fluid with it being all analog. Adjust short lengths, very detailed.
          -Lamply & Steward are ok
          -Compubox

          Cons:

          -Sluggish gameplay
-Feels like a buggy first effort
          -Learning curve
          -Some unresponsiveness
-Lack of judge variety in scorecards
-Lack of general match options (like turning off instant replays for knockdowns), camera angles, types of judges, refs, etc
-Lack of more hair in CAB
          -Commentary is a bit lacking

Overall: feels like a "first effort". It is sluggish (which is good and bad). But it is a tactical game. This game will definitely NEED online to survive. This is a fan game. A boxing fan game. A casual gamer would give this like a 4/10. A sim boxing gamer maybe a 7/10

          My vote: 6.5/10

That 6.5 is a "I can enjoy it playing vs a sim player online, tactical, CAB is great, and presentation is good, but there isn't enough substance in the game itself to keep it interesting for a long time. Online will have to hold up strong to carry it. It needs a lot of polish. But it is a Boxing game where strategy, picking shots and fighting focused is key. Unfortunately, that is one of few strong points.

my last fight 2 of the judges had the same score and the other was different by 1 point. I do think it needs more variety though.

If anyone can help me with how to play better against the CPU aggressiveness, I would appreciate it. I like this game, but I am getting frustrated to the point where I am ready to give up. I can go about 4 rounds the most before I get knocked out. I do block a lot, but the damn CPU is like the Terminator and doesn't let up even on Amateur which is sad.

Should I spend the first round or two jabbing and blocking?

I loved the Rocky series and those games were tough because the CPU wasn't a slouch, but I was able to hang with the CPU.

Here is a great writeup from Tmana at 2k. He is on point.

Well today I learned how to play the game the right way. It really helps and made me change my whole view of the game. The controls are very sim to boxing. You have to wait for openings, and create angles to land the good shots. Here are some of my tips

                        1. Clinching: Clinching is easy to do, all you have to do is wait until the other guy is blocking then click L and R stick at the same time. You almost catch the guy in a clinch every time. The key is you have to wait for the opponent to block.
                        2. Step in punches: When you have some distance hold RB + X, Y, A, or B. The best time to use these is when you have some distance between you and the other guy. I found the step in jab, and straight was very efficient this way.
                        3. Step around punches: Hold RB + A, or B then move the L stick, up, or down . This is key and makes the gameplay very fun. If you want to throw a step around body punch hold RT down too. Once you learn this it makes this game very sim. It doesn’t take to long to catch on to either.
                        4. Leaning and weaving: When you are holding down the LT and using the L stick to lean and weave you can create some wicked angle punches that land. I did this a lot if I am stuck on the ropes.
                        5. Blocking: I notice the computer, and the people I play against comes at your body a lot, so work on blocking your body more. Get use to blocking the belly.
                        6. Footmovement: This is very simple it is L stick but only use this to move in close quarters.
                        7. Dash: Dash when you tap L stick twice in any direction. This is very helpful if you want to be the faster boxer and keep on the outside or use this if you are stuck on the ropes.
                        8. Stamina: Keep your eye on your stamina; if it gets to low you will hear your guy breathing hard. If I am planning to throw a combo, I usually only make it 3 or 4 punches.
                        9. Body punching: Just hold RT down and throw your punches. These are very efficient punches that will open up nicer shots up top.
                        10. Ref: When you are getting hurt badly but haven’t been knockdown but see that you have almost no health on your permanent health bar, they attend to call the fight on you after you get knockdown once. The times I get up is when the AI, lands a great combo and takes a lot of my short term health away and cause a knockdown. So watch your permanent health bar, and make sure you are more cautions about knockdowns if that bar is too low.
                        11. Ropes: My favorite thing to do to the AI is getting them stuck on ropes, then unleashing right hooks from hell! They will hit his gloves but evenly break the block and get through. When I do this I am relentless and throw maybe 6 or 7 shots repeatedly without catching my breathe.
                        12. Multiplayer: Has been lag free for me so far, and has been fantastic. Most fights go the Cards but I have been knockout a few times too lol.

                        More tips
Health Increase - After a couple of rounds, when your max health starts to go down, but your health bar is full (as full as it an be), land several shots on your opponent, and then clinch. This will allow your MAX health to go up, while your opponent's regular health bar fills, help giving you an edge in the fight, especially in those later rounds.

Signature shots are pretty dam cool too. They are on page 5 of the instruction manuelly an example of one is (Liver Blow) These are real devesating punches, and work well with the gameplay, and are not overly done, because they are hard to land.

CAREER MODE Start off at the easiest setting. Try a few exhibition matches. The most fun I have is learning a game with some one else.

All in all this game is so much fun once you learn the controls the right way. I understand what Ronnie was saying the reviewers didn’t know how to play the game. They literally must of went in to PF thinking they could go crazy and throw punches like a mad men. You really have to create angles and throw side stepping punches. This really makes the game fun once you learn it. I have been playing it online for a few hours dismourning and it has be alot of fun. Hit me up with a challenge if you guys want my Gamertag is

SweatyGladiator I am off all day today!

                        Hope these tips help

I lean and weave all the time. ALso while I am doing it I have my guard up or down to block shots. Its very effective. I make the computer miss a ton of shots. Then I counter with 2 or 3 punch combos.

                            Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?

I clinch at almost every opportunity. I use hooks to the body and they cover up, after I have thrown 5 or 6 punches, my energy is low, so I clinch. If you don't time the clinch right though and get caught coming in, its trouble. If you do time the clinches right, you can do alot of damage to your opponents stamina.

I'm looking forward to restarting my career now that I have had some practice and time to digest what is going on.

I just wish there weren't as many knockdowns. It kills the sim aspect of the game.
Overall I think boxing fans will like this game enough to carry them to fight night round 4. Non boxing fans are definitely going to want their $60 back.

Hit me up with a challenge if you guys want my Gamertag is

lol. Being a mod at the 2k forums I can certainly tell you that the developers do listen to consumer feedback and they do play a part in the outcome of future titles.

EA listening to consumers is something brand new for them. In the past EA did not listen and lied to consumers.
