Re: Fight Night Round 4 Demo Impressions
I guess some people prefer a game where whoever mashes most wins. If you are not willing to put in the time to learn to be skillful then of course you won't be good at it, welcome to Simulation, this is the direction that games are going in, better get yourself a Wii.
Personally I think that games where you can take it home and become the champ in the same night aren't worth their weight in paper.
See the difference? it's not the controls, it's how the game responds to them. If you just keep flicking the stick it's really the same thing.
You should be rewarded for playing sim in the game, not for using sticks over buttons - using sticks does not equal sim.
The stick control isn't as good as fnr3 as far as throwing the proper punches.
just to sum up. buttons does not equal arcade, and sticks does not equal sim. It's the game's responsibility to play correctly and reward whichever genre it belongs to regardless of the controls. I used sticks in fnr3, but I'd rather buttons in rd4 since the stick control is terrible imo.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

Re: Fight Night Round 4 Demo Impressions
I don't understand some of you though defending the game like it's your mother. It's a to each his own type of thing and for my own I don't care for the forced control scheme. If anything a stick user should have an advantage because they keep their thumb on one stick where as a button user has to move from button to button so I don't know where all the complaining is coming from. A well programmed game can implement both without giving the advantage to either user.

Re: Fight Night Round 4 Demo Impressions
No they aren't ANYTHING like throwing punches in real life. I don't know about you but I've been in many fights and never had to stop and think "Ok I wan't to catch this dude leaning into me with an uppercut, ok let me tuck my arm in a bit. Let me position my feet, ok I got that, ok now let me tilt a little here, ok...". If I had to fight like this in real life I would have gotten my butt kicked daily.

On a flip side, tell your mother to keep tapping B & A, I also bet that she will atleast win 5 fights out of 20 where as this will never happen if she did the same by smashing/flicking the sticks which takes skills and it is evidence of that in the UFC game because any spammer/masher online do not know the ground game....
Also no console game is going to go str8 sim....So button smashers will never be gassed like they are suppose to when playing out of the box so kudos to EA for adding sliders....
Also as a person with alot of boxers in his family and myself who boxed for 7 years(5years old to 12 years old, then started football)
Fight me IRL without setting your feet and throwig poor exicuted punches...All I'll say is that this wont be a long fight.....Last edited by Jukeman; 05-29-2009, 12:15 PM.Comment

Re: Fight Night Round 4 Demo Impressions
Huh? There is nothing to think about.....In UFC, I dont have to think about if im going to do a miner transition or a major because it comes natural to me now after PRACTICING....If you tell your mother to play a simple two button game, I bet you that see will have to and will stop and think about what she is going to do because she never practice nor played the game before, as someone like us who been gaming for about 15-20 years, the button game comes natural because thats what we've been using all this time.....

Then it looks like you'll be missing out on a great game because you either don't want to adapt to the TCP or you can't.PSN: bronk14Comment

Re: Fight Night Round 4 Demo Impressions
posts like these are very ignorant. Let's pretend the game had option for button use... let's make something clear for once and for all - if you can use buttons, that does not mean the faster you mash the more you win - does not mean that. If the game is created correctly, button mashers would lose 90% of the time. They'd be gassed and wildly be throwing punches and bombs.
See the difference? it's not the controls, it's how the game responds to them. If you just keep flicking the stick it's really the same thing.

...and while i do agree that mashing buttons dosent mean you'll win everytime..... it does mean your chances are higher. for proof all you have to do is go online in FN3 see how many use the buttons over the sticks..then ask them why!
and i've knocked a bunch of mashers out in fn3..but its basically the same fight over and over again...thats not skills ...thats boring! especially when you have to use a slugger out of his element in order to win......
this new analog scheme rocks....and its a shame that some of yall just dont see it...
theres gonna be a whole bunch of crying online this time around.....and it will be from the fn 3 button cheesers...my advice ...learn the game !Comment

Re: Fight Night Round 4 Demo Impressions
i think what you're saying is outrageous! they actually made the sticks easier to use and more sensible. you wont be wearing your thumbs out this this time around...atleast not as quick....but the sticks are more realstic than just pressing a dog gone button

Re: Fight Night Round 4 Demo Impressions
Great demo. After getting use to the new controls it's easy to pull off what type of hit you want and I love that you can do quick, effective combos now. I find you have to counter a lot if you want to win and knockdowns are so sweet when you get them.Comment

Re: Fight Night Round 4 Demo Impressions
I just discovered something I don't like:
I knocked Hatton down 3 times in the 1st round. He got up each time, but that isn't what I'm referring to.
In the 2nd round, I had him hurt again, and I am pretty sure my haymaker was on the verge of knocking him down again because it connected and the health bar was empty. However since the round ended and the fall animation never kicked in, Hatton was saved.
In the third round, I knocked him down yet again and he got up wobbly on 10, and the fight continued. If it was real boxing, it woulda been stopped.Comment

Its soo simple that its funny. Its funny cuz its just a perfect example of how much people HATE CHANGE.
Thats all you have to do its that simple!! for hooks and uppercuts to the face its just a slight curve, no need to do a zangief spinning piledriver motion. slight curve just the way i drew it. go in tutorial and just practice, PRACTICE. thats it.Last edited by Vast; 05-29-2009, 06:39 PM."I'm addicted to Video Games, and i chase it with a little OS." -Winston ChurchillComment

Its cool in this demo there is good variety. I just had a match that I was actually just practicing my blocking and weaving. In the first working my jab/cross and Defense. Then in the 2nd round my first punch (uppercut) landed right on the button and he was done. He kept trying to stand up, which was awesome.Comment

Stuff like this is EXACTLY what they work on and train to do. And further more, they have to keep retraining (apart from the basics) for each different opponent. And if you thank the don't, you are sorely mistaken. This is why fighters train for years before even going pro. With the stick you can throw punches at different angles and velocities. If your point is that you want to fight without think about what you want to do, then you sound like the typical button masher to me. A simple button scheme is like telling a fighter, "OK kid, get in there and throw some lefts and rights." One mash equals a full punch with the buttons. With the stick you can faint, you control the wind up, you control whether it's a jab, a straight or a cross, you can throw high or low.
The punch buttons were like just having a channel up and channel down on a tv remote versus being able to be precise and enter in the exact channel on a key pad. And whether you win or lose against a button masher is not the point, the point, for me at least, is the quality of the fight. Button mashers present no diversity, its the same fight no matter what fighters are selected. And whats more, they tent to migrate to the same couple of fighters that are most effective at this and so now you are fighting against the same handful of fighters. As soon as they select the fighter, you know what kind of fight you are in store for. Is that always the case, no, but "where there is smoke there is fire" is always a good rule of thumb.
But, the fact is that the buttong mashing is gone and good! If you can't play with the sticks, there are plenty of button mashings games out there for you, but this is not one of them.
At least let's all cross our fingers and hope that the released version doesn't have controller customization that works online.Jackmouve | PSN | [email protected]Comment
