i respect his opinion but don't agree with the post above about not being able to throw combo with practice. in the demo, before a match, i go into the tutorial and just work on different combos, and it's worked. it would be nice for EA to give ppl this option, but if not that doesn't make it any less of a game...

I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"... -

Options are the best option
But the sticks work and they are learnable, its up to the user to accept change....Comment

Re: Sticks Or Buttons Poll
Now im not on here saying screw u guys who love the buttons, im just saying theres no point even talking about it.
Either practice with the sticks or buy Prizefighter or play an old boxing game."I'm addicted to Video Games, and i chase it with a little OS." -Winston ChurchillComment

Re: Sticks Or Buttons Poll
If I wanted to I could throw a jab, straight right, left hook, right uppercut combo 5/5 times with the buttons with ease. I could practice with the sticks for a month and struggle to pull that combo 5/5 teams with decent speed. If the plan is to make punches less accurate by making the controls less accurate then its utterly asinine.
The only logic in using the sticks would have been to use the range of motion so each jab was thrown in a differnt spot or with different speed. You dont have that. The punches thrown with the stick feel just like the punches thrown with the buttons"I'm addicted to Video Games, and i chase it with a little OS." -Winston ChurchillComment

Re: Sticks Or Buttons Poll
i really hope they put buttons in.....for offline only of course because nobody should have ANY advantage when playing online.it's funny most of the button users brought ufc 2009 and learned the MUCH more difficult control scheme of THAT game but are crying about buttons.idk about ufc 2009 control scheme but can you change all of those ground submission moves and reversals to just the buttons?Comment

Re: Sticks Or Buttons Poll
No, but you can do other things but ground submissions & reversals in UFC 09. If every punch, kick, grapple, submission & takedown used the stick, you'd have a case.Comment

Re: Sticks Or Buttons Poll
well you answered my question....that's exactly the reason why i didn't buy ufc i like the game it was just soooooooooo many moves on the demo it turned me off the game.now if it was just punching and kicking it would be okay but i applaud all who have mastered that game and ALL the nuances of it.my point is why can't those same people take the time to learn ALL the nuances of fn4?i was a button user on fn3 and i'm having a GREAT time with the demo and can't wait 4 the game.Comment

Re: Sticks Or Buttons Poll
I continue to enjoy how "button mashers" are treated as the problem, as if saying "My control system of choice is so clunky, inaccurate and cumbersome, someone randomly flailing buttons has a better chance of beating me than I do by actually trying, so they need to not let you push buttons" actually makes sense.Last edited by shigogouhou; 06-06-2009, 12:21 AM. Re: Sticks Or Buttons Poll
Buttons by a country mile. The sticks represent poor game design. At least the original control offered the feeling that each stick was an arm but that made it difficult to punch and move at the same time. The new controls offer nothing except less control. That isnt next-gen thats just stupid.
It reminds me of some of the special moves in DOA and Virtual Fighter. Some of them are just too hard to do in a fast moving game so you have like 20 moves that nobody ever uses. That is poor design. With good game design every move is used. It better to have a fighting game with 20 moves that are part of the battle even if some are risky wildcard moves that are rarely used than a game with 60 moves and only 10 are used in fights.
Thats the problem with the sticks. If I wanted to I could throw a jab, straight right, left hook, right uppercut combo 5/5 times with the buttons with ease. As far as FN4 goes, I personally would like button controls to be available in offline fights but unavailable in online ranked matches. That way I don't have to worry about fighting someone who has a modded controller and would therefore be able to punch a lot faster than me.
I know not everyone who wants faces buttons would abuse the system. But it would be very annoying to fight someone who does have an unfair advantage and it could possibly prevent some people from playing online.EA: Please add in-game saves.Comment

Re: Sticks Or Buttons Poll
I don't think it's necessarily a bad control system. Sadly, face buttons are abused in many games due to modded controllers. I just played Call of Duty 4 and one kid was dominating in part because he was using a semi-automatic assault rifle with a modded controller. This gave him an unfair advantage because he had the accuracy of a semi-auto but the fire rate of an auto due to the modded controller.
