Re: EA's response to headbutting online (Brizzo)
I'd honestly be amazed if the buttons caused an almost 70% decrease in sales over FNR3, but I guess anything can happen.
And I agree that it hasn't declined since FNR3 came out. Like I said earlier, boxing isn't declining - it has already declined. I personally think FNR3 probably would have sold like this one had it not been a 360 launch title.Comment

Re: EA's response to headbutting online (Brizzo)
I suppose it balances out. FNR3 benefited from being one of the few exclusive launch titles for the 360. FNR4 benefits from having a much larger installed base.Recovering slider addict...Fight Night Round 4 caused me to relapse...Comment

It seems like it but #3 was actually released 3 months after the 360 system launch-but now I'm splitting hairs. Close enough to be a "semi-launch" title.Comment

Re: EA's response to headbutting online (Brizzo)
I remember alot of people on my Chiefs message board raving about it simply because there wasn't alot of other titles available at the time. That and Elder Scrolls. I, of course, was trying to scrape up the dough to get my 360 so I could continue a College Hoops season that was plagued by the small forward bug...Recovering slider addict...Fight Night Round 4 caused me to relapse...Comment

Re: EA's response to headbutting online (Brizzo)
Honestly, their formula has been very successful with the other sports franchises. Put as much arcade-like superhuman crap in as possible - the 14-year old Pop Rock-eaters love scoring 17 TD's a game with Randy Moss or Mike Vick. They've always MARKETED "sim" but they've never BEEN "sim" and FNR4 really isn't any different in that respect.
The biggest difference between this and Madden is that it hasn't SOLD. Which IMO is good news, because maybe they'll finally stop this crap and produce an actual sim experience.
In both cases, it was a common belief in the community that the EA game was worse than the competitor which turned EA around.
Madden is starting to look like changes are happening, but they aren't creating a new game like NHL and FIFA did. There's just isn't any reason to.GT: Teambayern5

Re: EA's response to headbutting online (Brizzo)
I just fought a guy online who was a body spammer. So I stayed back and counter punched him. He was landing more shots, but I was landing clean shots and the fight was pretty even throughout. In the 4th, 6th, and 9th rounds I stun him and he uses the low blow to keep me from coming forward.
He only lost 1 point in the 6th round, but really it was still to his advantage because the ref game him time and allowed his health to regenerate.
He finally spammed me enough to the body and I was KO'd in the 10th.BTFU!Comment

Re: EA's response to headbutting online (Brizzo)
I have a real problem with the statement that they couldn't have the foresight for seeing how it could be a problem, because that's not even close to the real problem. The problem is that they significantly deviated from the real sport of boxing for no reason whatsoever. Anyone who has ever watched a decent sample of boxing knows that there's a well defined way to deal with illegal blows. First time you get a warning, second time you get a point taken away, after that you run the risk of getting disqualified. Cheese isn't something that is limited to online games, if you could headbutt and punch below the belt with no repercussions, you'd see the best boxers in the world headbutting and punching below the belt. If you just tried to simulate the sport of boxing, you wouldn't need to have foresight to see the results of the rules you changed.Comment

Re: EA's response to headbutting online (Brizzo)
I'm in the corner that you remove it altogether so there are no accidents (I accidentally do it when I mean to use the sig punch sometimes). I know it is a part of boxing, but but 6'8" George Foreman clowns, I mean clones, that float like Ali and sting like Tyson are not and that get's old quick. I don't remember Valuev moving like that. Making all ratings even is a joke with most of the people online using monsters. That's why I usually fight only on quick match ranked.Comment

Re: EA's response to headbutting online (Brizzo)
i agree. this is killing this game for me. By allowing this online, EA is saying we want headbutts to factor into ranked matches and that is just not right.
If they are going to say that, then at least make it realistic. DQ's should be coming much earlier. Not only that, but you're telling me a guy is stunned, can't hardly keep his hands up, can't throw punches with any power, is barely holding on to his sense of balance, and he has the wherewithall to headbutt someone, and a ref is going to step in and stop it once he does. I call bull**** on that.If he tries top headbutt while stunned, I say let him fall to the floor like would probably happen IRL.
Also, as a someone who doesn't see a whole lot of boxing these days, would they even let someone get away with a headbutt like the ones in this game? Accidental ones, sure. but this animation has the guy arching his back like 30 degrees then unloading forward with his forehead. I can't imagine that's cool as long as you only do it once. To me that's like the difference between high sticking in hockey and taking your hands together at the bottom and swinging it like a baseball bat.GT: Teambayern5

Re: EA's response to headbutting online (Brizzo)
Sorry for the double post. Just played a random online. His game consisted of jabs and haymakers. When he realized that wasn't going to work he reverted to spamming. When he realized that wasn't going to work he reverted to low blows and head butting. I believe that after his first 3 he was given a point deduction. Then it was something like three more and he received another deduction. After about 5 more he was DQ'd. Pretty lame it took that long for the DQ because any longer and I might have been knocked out. I dominated this guy and he could have taken me down with headbutting/low-blows. Pretty dissapointing, but at least I got a win.Comment
