Re: EA's response to headbutting online (Brizzo)

Most of the games I lose online go the same way. I am playing a good opponent who knows what he's doing and I am either winning or it's very close. I get him in a tight spot, or stun him, and he headbutts me everytime.

When he stuns me, I play it straight so he ends up capitalizing on one, maybe two of his chances.

Going into the later rounds I'm down because the difference between us is he got an extra point in the rounds he won because he knocked me down, and he got a huge boost in stamina/damage points as well, while I have a lingering cut that I need to watch from the headbutts. I never get the DQ or the any KD's because he is a good player, who only needs to use his headbutt 3 times a game to stop me from capitalizing. Sometimes they get away with more when they need it (ie i stun him 5 times, I get 5 headbutts).

I'm usually better than these guys on the punch sheets in percentage thrown and landed, but they win because they are almost as good, and willing to cheat. EA needs to fix this so that these guys don't win. i have no problem beating the guys that suck and tend to use it 10 times, it's these guys that kill me. So fix both, but make sure you address headbutting while stunned.

I don't think a decline in the popularity of boxing has all that much to do with poor sales, at least not when comparing what round 3 did against round 4. After all, we're talking about a mere 3 years between the release of both games. I suspect the main reason is that round 3, released just a couple of months into the 360's lifespan, was near enough a launch title for the console and sold well for several reasons relating to this. Firstly, there was a general lack of titles available for the console at the time resulting in less competition and more cross-over appeal, i.e. non-boxing fans who just want a fighting game, etc. Secondly, the game offered what was at the time jaw-droppingly good graphics and consequently was seen as a next-gen showpiece. Finally, titles released so early in a console's life just tend to sell really well regardless of quality, because, really, people who have just recently forked out for a shiny new console are going to want games to play on it.

Wrong, thats a madden solution. If they want to really go in a sim direction, they can remove a "headbutt button" since I agree intentional fouls have no place in boxing or a boxing game, and replace that with heads clashing because you and your opponant directly smash into one another during a round. something dynamic.

Agreed. Something like both fighters trying to bob and weave inside at the same time causing an incidental headbutt.
