Khan doesn't have Thurman's power. Khan started out as a lightweight.

Why not??? He forgot to do it?
Yeah, the Khan comparison was weak. Mea culpa. And Khan doesn't have Thurman's power. But he does have a ton of speed. And he knows how to box.

Why did Garcia not cut off the ring? Maybe his idiot father never taught him. Not all boxers are taught proper technique.

Why did Garcia not cut off the ring? Maybe his idiot father never taught him. Not all boxers are taught proper technique, especially when their trainer is a moron.

I think he's made a decent transition to welter-he blew away Paulie, but he was never super lethal at 140-just good power.

I'm actually looking forward to his next fight.

Don't get me started on all these silly JR weight classes south of 160!

Me, too. I despise MMA, but boxing MUST adopt the ethos of that sport, in which a loss doesn't signal the decline of a career.

We can blame that jackoff Mayweather and his shameless protection of his "0" for that. It's the only marketable thing he has, even if Castillo beat him in 2002.

Can you imagine if the current attitude prevailed in boxing in the early 70s? Ali would have been considered washed up after losing to Frazier in the "Fight of the Century" in 1971.

Two of the best fighters in the world are south of 130 -- Chocolatito and Lomachenko.

I'll take the constant action, skill and speed of lighter guys over the sloppy skills and endless clinching of leviathan heavyweights any day.

even the one of the announcers (sugar ray) mentioned that....but in the corner between rounds, it was never brought up.

but how marketable is it when no one wants to see you fight anymore? there is no popular demand to see him fight at this point, which is why he is talking about mcgregor instead of going up against a actual legitimate fighter. i still consider that a loss against castillo too....lol. he got outslugged plain and simple. lederman had castillo winning, dan rafael had an even fight, so even if you favored floyd, it should have been at least a draw. if the fight is anywhere else other than mgm grand, he loses. i believe a loss makes you a better fighter, especially if you avenge the loss.

if garcia or thurman had that attitude, their fight would have never happened (on free tv to boot). they are in their prime too, which makes it even more surprising. boxing purists will never forget how floyd avoided manny for so long.

No PK, I didn't mean that-I'm not a big fan of too many splits below 130 (e.g. junior-super), not the fighters themselves. I'd prefer the old days of featherweight, bantamweight, and flyweights below the last split division (super featherweight, junior lightweight-130). It's no big deal though.

Yeah, over the weekend Sugar Ray Leonard summed it up very well, as only a great fighter can.

Ah, I see, said the blind carpenter as he picked up his hammer and saw.

I agree with you completely. There are too many weight classes, which also are a safety hazard. Too many guys drain themselves to make a certain weight, sapping their energy for fights.

And don't even get me started on catchweights ...

sugar ray fought everyone possible in that era...(except maybe aaron pryor). de la hoya fought pretty much everybody too...even went up to challenge hopkins and faced manny (and floyd) in their primes when oscar was well past his. i really think after what manny did to oscar is what made floyd put the manny mega fight on hold indefinitely. juan manuel marquez, of all people, faced manny 4 times for pete's sake. he should go into the boxing hall of fame just for that alone.
