Very true. I do think Floyd is really retired though. I don't believe the Conor bs. I don't think White will let Connor do it unless he is getting a lot of the purse. I think Connor would have to quit the ufc if he wants to keep all of the money

Here is my take on it - but with a huge caveat and that is money rules all - so here we go:

If I'm an athletic commission in charge of boxing approvals for the fight to happen, I don't think I'd allow it.

      1) Connor is not a professional boxer and even if he was, usually match-making is approved based on a reasonable match of skill at least based on paper/ranking etc. Nobody would allow the 267th ranked fighter to fight the #1 ranked fighter in the world - it's seen as a dangerous risk. I've seen fights not get approved that seemed legit to me, even things like the number of rounds. You cannot fight a 12 round fight in your professional debut,...in fact I think it MUST be 4 rounds.

      2) Since the champions in different sanctioning bodies have mandatories and all that - which governing body would be willing to say "our rankings mean absolutely nothing" Like if I'm the WBC, no way I want to be attached to that - so either Floyd relinquishes all his belts and/or the fight would officially be an "exhibition" bout that in essence wouldn't count.

      3) Floyd's legacy. This one should be pretty simple, assuming we get past 1 and 2 and it's a real boxing match. If you're going to pass Rocky Marciano and go 50-0, that's ok, (even though you'd get more haters saying his opponent wasn't the best available fighter) - BUT having that person be essentially a non-professional is a disgrace to the sport, and forever an asterix that nobody would respect, even floyd fans - nobody would consider it legit and they shouldn't. It's like if Ali fought against the best hockey enforcer of his time and it counted.

So I don't really see how this goes down.

he's right.....conor would have to have at least 3-5 fights to be legit in the sport of boxing. at least one of those fights would have to be a top 10 ranked contender. he would have to win all 5 by knockout to have any leverage at all. if conor doesn't go this route, then i don't see a consumer shelling out $60-70 bucks (or more) to see a 4 round exhibition that doesn't count and see floyd probably run for those 4 rounds.

Gary Russell Jr's March 11th title defense and the new MGM National Harbor has been postponed. His challenger has suffered an injury in training. Sucks I was looking forward to spending the day in the poker room and the night at the fight. No word on the rescheduled date yet.

Who are your picks for this weekend fights? I pick Haye by stoppage and Thurman by late stoppage, maybe a 9th round.

Since it's Bellow's first pro fight as a heavyweight and Haye looked good in his last bout against a solid opponent (Gjergjaj), I couldn't pick against Haye. Is that fight on US TV??

Thurman is the bigger and stronger fighter and the grit he showed in the Porter fight made people realize he's not just a big punching cupcake. Garcia is as balanced a fighter that's out there, but his "0" will probably go Saturday night.

Haye by KO, Thurman by comfortable decision.

I got Thurman ending it in the 10 with a devastating KO. I think he finally finds his power at 147 in this fight.

i got haye by late TKO and garcia by split decision....his boxing ability (and chin) will be put to the test against thurman. porter hit thurman with some bombs and the guy didn't go down.

I have Haye with a ko in the 5th or 6th. Thurman wins a decisive decision. I think he has too much speed for him.

Man, I don't understand the love for Thurman. His past foes are not nearly as tough as Garcia's.

Thurman's quality opponents: Porter, Guerrero, Soto Karass.

Otherwise, he's like nearly every other Haymon fighter -- overrated and overprotected.

Meanwhile, the lineup of Garcia's quality foes is much deeper: Guerrero, Malignaggi, L. Peterson, Herrera, Mattyhsse, Judah, Khan, Holt, Campbell.

Garcia is FAR more tested than Thurman. That will help him win a split decision. The only reason the judges will be split is because Thurman is a PBC poster child. Garcia could be, but the excess baggage of his racist father is even too much for Haymon to stomach as a promoter.

He barely got by Peterson, many thought Herrera beat him (what has he done lately?), marshmallow punching Malignaggi was on the decline, and both have fought and beaten Guerrero. The point is sometimes Garcia does just enough to win and sometimes he is lucky. That being said he's good. His most impressive fight was against Matthysse (IMO), where many thought he'd get KOed. I just think Thurman's natural 147 size, power and speed will be too much, but Danny is resilient. I wouldn't bet you though PK, LOL.

Still don't know if Fonfara-Dawson made the televised part of the CBS card.
