Re: Boxing Off-Topic
it's not Adrien Broner!!! He showed some pretty good pop tonight. You can talk all you want AB, nobody thinks you could beat Floyd, and you don't deserve a fight with him.
Good prelim fights showcasing young talent Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Robert Easter. "Tank" ends his fight with six consecutive left hand punches. I really want to see more of him against better competition.Comment

i gotta admit Broner looked good, but he's got more important things to worry about right now than who he'll fight nextComment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
THIS is why boxing continues to suffer. Specifically the fans.
If boxing had the UFC's structure, the sport would be so much more popular among casual fans.
It'll never change, but imagine how great this sport could be if promoters and corrupt alphabet organizations would get out the way so that the best always fought the best?
I just hate the constant UFC comparisons as if they always get it right.
Boxing in years past has always captured casual fans.
The problem is they do a terrible job of marketing and promoting fighters. Floyd turned boxing on its head keeping everything in house under his own umbrella. And the suits got lazy.
I just think the UFC comparisons are a cop out. Politics heavily influences both sports. Boxing just needs more of a cleaning house.Comment

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't it always been like this?

The other problem lies in the credibility of major boxing organizations allowing catchweight title fights so they can get their cut. The WBA and WBC have never been squeaky clean but in years past they never would have allowed title fights at anything other then that division's top weight limit.
It would be nice if there was some oversight of the IBF, WBC, and WBA, but without government regulation it will never happen.
Even the Ring Magazine is sullied because Oscar bought it.Comment

In the golden era, there was only 8 divisions and one belt.
That in itself forced fighters to face one another. No more hiding in a weight class 4lbs above or below a guys prime weight. And no owning a 5th, meaningless title so you didn't have to fight another champ since they weren't included in the rankings.
Sugar Ray Robinson and Jake Lamotta fought each other 3 times in a span of a month.
You'd never, EVER, see something like that in boxing today.
Forget fighting 3x, they'd probably never see each other whatsoever during their careers.
If this was 1930, Pac and Mayweather would have fought while both in their primes. Maybe they even fight 3 of them?
Instead, we got a fight that was 6 years too late.
UFC doesn't get everything right. Nobody can. But with minimal weight classes and only one champ recognized, you are constantly seeing competitive bouts that feature two fighters within the same skill spectrum.
In boxing, 95% of bouts are lopsided featuring a rising, coddled star, feasting on has-beens or never-was fighters - see Canelo.

Although, I could have done without the pelvic thrust taunt he performed after the initial knockdown.
Broner did that crap and shortly after found himself on the wrong end of an *** whooping.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
never liked broner's attitude, but do like the fact he called out floyd....remember how floyd and him were friends and would never fight each other? even to my disdain that he is a floyd clone, he does have the skill set and defense to beat floyd. why else would floyd be close friends with him and never want to fight him? IF broner beats someone like a danny garcia or something like that, then MAYBE he can talk about bringing floyd out of retirement.....
Broner fights too flat footed and if he could be touched up by Porter and Maidana, I think Floyd just picks him apart.
He also doesn't carry enough power up to 147. His best weight class was probably 135, but he has a thick build so him not making 140 doesn't surprise me.
Everyone loves to call out Floyd because they know it's an easy paycheck.
It's not like you're fighting a 1986 Mike Tyson where there's a 1000% chance of pain being involved.
Win or lose, you're going to walk away relatively unscathed fighting Floyd - but a whole lot richer.Comment
