Not so sure he was calling out The Cannon. Think he was just paying some sort of odd respect considering Briggs has been trolling Klitschko for a fight for the last five years, especially on social media.

Or did I interpret that the wrong way?

Well said. Fat bastards like Cris Arreola and even featureless-but-fit giants like Fury do little to advance the Greek god aspect of the great athletes in the division.

Wilder has KO'd nothing but stiffs with that right hand, which is ALL he has as a fighter. He has no head movement, no ring tactical knowledge, lousy footwork and throws no combinations.

          The face-off with some commentary.

I think the commentary just echo's what a lot of us feel.

Say what we will about Chavez, at least he was pretty much 100% honest and real with his comments. I kind of hope he stops Canelo - and even if he does, that wouldn't necessarily mean he doesn't fight GGG right?
Chavez has almost no chance this Saturday night. He looks downright sickly in some of the photos on social media. The guy carries 190-195 in street clothes. He's almost literally killing himself to make 164.

Even with rehydration, Chavez will be incredibly weak in the ring. Canelo knew that was the best way to neuter Chavez's power, so he insisted on this BS catchweight.

It's damn near a rigged fight before it starts.

yes, because it'd be a big money fight - unless he doesn't want it and fights cans instead.

I agree with what you said, but I can't argue with virtually anything Junior said - he was bang on with his assessment of canelo's opponents and why he chose them as well as the weight issues.

I don't know if it's Junior being drained but he doesn't looked particularly strong in training. All indications are that he is on time for easily making weight and there is the fact that Yellow has never fought an actual middleweight, let alone a former "super sized middleweight".

Still, I just don't think Chavez has the skill or power to win this fight or even be competitive. I hope I'm wrong, but I won't be getting the fight.

canelo's stock goes down if he loses....he will no longer be the A side. junior will get a shot at GGG (if there is a catch weight again) and get a nice payday. on a side note, canelo probably doesn't like the fact junior is speaking english in the face off too.

don't count junior out in this one....this could be the last big fight of his career. he'll be fighting for respect from canelo, boxing fans and his country. there is no doubt canelo is thinking junior will be easier than GGG and a bigger payday to go with it. he's got a decent chin and should have some power for a super sized middleweight.

Yeah, his size and chin may give him a glimmer of hope.

Can Chavez access that power after killing himself to make weight? Doubtful.

Chavez showed up this week in Vegas wearing a plastic/rubber sweatsuit. Not a good sign if you're still cutting weight on fight week.

I just don't know. Five weeks ago he was eating well and down to 178, and this morning he reportedly weighed 167, but was put on a 1000 calorie per day diet to ensure he doesn't get the $1 million overweight fine.

Losing 11 pounds over a five week period isn't drastic, but isn't the weigh-in tomorrow morning? Still has 2.5 pounds to go.

not to mention motivation to win....but then again, that's what makes this fight so intriguing. canelo going up to fight a bigger man (bigger than GGG, albeit less talented) and junior's troubled past with a chance to redeem himself. it does make you wonder why they didn't face each other when junior was at middleweight and canelo was at super welterweight. canelo could have gone up 6 pounds and it would have generated considerable interest at the time and been a pretty competitive fight. junior was at his peak and canelo was on the rise. if canelo didn't want him then, why now?

It IS drastic when your body fat percentage is less than 10 percent. The dude only has so many fluids he can release from his body to cut more weight.

Meanwhile, Canelo never has fought as a true middleweight, let alone 164.5. He's probably eating ice cream and steaks all week and will make weight easily.

This fight will be won or lost on the scales tomorrow, not in the ring Saturday night. If Chavez is a skeleton at the weigh-in, he already has lost. That's why this was a BS fight from the start.

Because Canelo rivals Mayweather as the most celebrated ducker in boxing. His resume looks impressive, but he either has demanded ridiculous catchweights such as this fight or has fought name guys past their peak ever since he lost to Mayweather.

To answer your question, "Why didn't Canelo want Chavez as a true middleweight?" The fight was too risky for him, and his brand depends on being the number one fighter in Mexicans' minds and hearts. He won't have any trouble doing that against Skeletor Chavez Saturday night.

Skillful management and promotion. But not very sporting.

Yeah, he might be pushing it. I was surprised that he weighed 168 for his December fight with Dominik Britsch. (just looked it up)

All due respect to everyone's opinions but I don't see him winning this fight under any circumstance. I will gladly eat crow and enjoy it if Junior somehow pulls it off.
