    Re: Boxing Off-Topic

Trainer Virgil Hunter has hinted that an announcement of Amir Khan's next opponent is coming soon, only saying that it definitely won't be Broner. Considering promoter Eddie Hearn has offered Khan a hefty $5 million to fight fellow UKer Kell Brock, I would think Brock is the favorite.

Is anybody getting the PPV Canelo Alvarez-Angulo fight? Hunter also trains Angulo.

Yeah, cost him $100,000 (to Angulo). Anyone else think Erislandy Lara would be a good future fight for Alvarez? He knocked out Angulo and dominated Trout. Come to think of it, he might be a little risky for Canelo.

Meanwhile Alvarez could make a killing on this fight. He's guaranteed $1.25 million, but he gets up to 80% of the PPV profits.

Lara should've gotten the fight to begin with. It'll probably be Cotto and then Lara for Canelo.

You're right, he should have fought Lara already.
And I have my doubts he ever will.
Canelo will probably challenge Kirkland after dispatching with Cotto.

Alvarez could be one of the most over-protected fighters in recent history. Every opponent is hand-picked.
Only the Trout fight was a risk*.

He needs to fight Lara next and then if he wins, move up to 160.

*I don't include Mayweather in that list because everyone knew Floyd would embarrass him.
And there's no shame in losing to Floyd because he's so good. And it wasn't like Saul was going to be KO'd.
Fighting Mayweather is like getting a lottery ticket. You're not going to get hurt that bad over a 12-round bout, you get rich and you don't lose any credibility due to Floyd's talent and P4P standing.

"Kind of" a dangerous fight for Alvarez. The money better be good for him to take it.

Looks like a summer bout between GGG and Chavez Jr at 168 is looking more and more likely.

                  I'll definitely buy that one.

I know I'm being anal here, but I wish GGG would stay at 160. I miss the old days when fighters like Haglar would remain in the same division his whole life.
And so far, it looks like GGG can maintain 160 quite easily.

                    Definite buy for me too.

I didn't see Canelo-Angulo but here's a GIF of the final punch and stoppage.

                      alvarez-angulo:

terrible fight. it looked like angulo was paid to be a punching bag. angulo had zero chance of winning...good stoppage as he was getting hit with clean shots too often. not too sure why he was so upset...looked like an oscar winning performance...boxing is my favorite sport...some of these fights seem so fixed to me? i try to look over this...maybe i'm in denial.

He wont fight Lara. One, Lara doesnt move the meter at all and doesnt equal PPV sales. Two, Lara's fight style is boring unless he faces someone who comes forward nonstop like Angulo. Cotto isnt an option either because he's facing Martinez in June and Canelo wants to fight this summer.

The Carl Froch-George Groves fight kind of slipped under my radar. Then I'm hearing about the controversial ending, how Groves petitioned the IBF for a rematch, and how that rematch will most likely be the most lucrative fight to "ever take place" in Britain. The 60,000 tickets at Wembley sold out in 90 minutes, with hopes that another 20,000 will be available through what I'm assuming is added/temporary seating. The Sky PPV could exceed $30 million.

So I watched the fight on YouTube yesterday, and although Froch was given a gift early stoppage and inexplicably close scores on two of the judges' cards (down only 65-67, despite losing 6 of the first 8 rounds, and being knocked down in the first round), he took all those big right hands by Groves and hurt him in the 9th. Check out the video. Keep in mind both fighters were getting hit. The stoppage comes at about the 49 second mark.

                          The rematch is May 31st.

Danny Garcia barely escaped being upset. My DVR froze in round 2. I then went live and the 12th round had started.

Garcia 116-112, 116-112, 114-114 over Herrera. (majority decision)

After the fight Garcia hinted at going up to 147, rather then have one more fight at 140.

Was this in his interview with the media, because post fight in the ring he said one more fight at 140, then the move to 147.

Well, I'm just recalling this because I erased the program, but Jim Grey talked about that "one more 140 fight", and Garcia seemed to leave open the option of not having that one more fight. He actually used his current weight class as an excuse (somewhat) for his performance.
