Golovkin seems to have an iron chin, so I don't see Lee getting lucky by being on the ropes and winning in dramatic fashion like has recently.

This is a more competitive fight than the farce known as Yellow vs Khan. But still.

I wouldn't say more. This will be a competitive fight until Brook gets hit. I think he was offered huge money and couldn't resist.

No. I just took that moment to take a shot at Yellow.

I wish Triple-GGG would have fought a MW, but I honestly don't think there was anyone out there willing to dance.
Jacobs is now in the same camp as Yellow saying he won't be ready for 2 more years.
Don't know about Quillen. Eubank ran scared and outside of Lee, he's pretty much fought them all.

I agree with your assessment that a tonne of money was thrown at Brook to take this fight.
I also think this is a test-pattern fight for GGG in that he's trying to stay sharp for Alvarez while not risking the fight and making a lot of money in the process.
What better way than to fight a Brit in his backyard knowing ticket sales and PPV numbers will be huge.

Major props to Brook for taking this fight though.

But seriously, I would never fault Floyd for not fighting GGG (FM isn't a big welter anyhow), but have to give props to Brook, assuming he had all his mental faculties when agreeing to the bout.

Boxing match-making just keeps hitting new lows...

GGG and Alvarez should just start having PPV sparring sessions with headgear and all, since that's functionally what they're doing at this point. Kell Brook is a heck of a fighter, but he'll be fighting at a functional 25-lb+ weight disadvantage against a guy who has borderline-heavyweight power. I'm not even sure that fight should be sanctioned.

Andy Lee, bless his Kronk heart, is basically cannon-fodder at this point. No one learns anything about a guy if they fight Andy Lee, other than I guess that they're a decently legitimate middleweight if you beat him.

Kovalez struggled some tonight. You have to wonder what he'll do against Ward. I never thought I'd say it but at this point I'd favor Andre Ward just a little bit.

maybe brook knows something we don't, not there wasn't some other big names at welterweight brook could have fought. but honestly, i thought cotto would be a better matchup than brook, more ppv numbers too.

I like both boxers but I'm a bigger fan of Kovalez, because I favor his style of fighting. I doubt it was a deception by Sergio. I think he was up against a good, tough fighter and he was a little out of sorts fighting in his home country. Of course he didn't look terrible, winning easily and hurting and knocking his opponent down.

I don't really know. Should be a good revenue stream generated by the UK's Sky Sports. (It will be on regular HBO in the US).
