Wow, I thought it was free ShowTime supplemented by SkySports PPV in the UK. I'm out.

With expectations of a multi-fight deal with Alvarez. The official announcement is tomorrow so maybe they'll shed some light on what's beyond the Fielding bout.

Canelo Alvarez signs a 5-year, 11-fight deal worth a minimum of $365 million with DAZN!!

EDIT: The deal also requires Golden Boy to put up 10 "high-caliber fight nights" per year for DAZN.

Added note regarding Wilder/Fury: At least SkySports only charges 20 pounds ($26 US) for a PPV fight.

Good god that is some serious money. My only concern is if this will keep him from fighting the big names. Will they still be able cross promote with showtime or espn etc?

Unlikely, but that's always been the case. Golden Boy, the PBC and Top Rank don't do much business with each other. These TV deals only will solidify the balkanization.

My fear is that all these fighters signing to these massive deals will lead to easy ppv fights to pay it off and that it has to start hurting espn and showtime at some point if they cant cross promote..

Yeah, I don't want to have 8 different streaming services and cable and premium all sucking up my dollars. It's all getting to be too much. It's honestly easier to just stop following boxing.

That's pretty much what's going to happen, as pk500 alludes to above. It's not clear to me that I'm going to continue the follow the sport at this point. I was okay with having Showtime and HBO, since I already have a cable bill and there are other reasons (or used to be) to subscribe to those channels. But now it's all just getting to be more trouble than it's worth. Just to see some phoney-baloney matchups where Canelo pounds some tomato can into submission in 6 rounds? And all the ultra-marquis fights (what few of them there are) will still be PPV?

The $80 or whatever I spent on a SNES Classic is looking like a much better return on investment of my entertainment dollars at this point...

That is what I am saying with the streaming services. I already sub to wwe network, netflix, hulu, amazon prime, and espn+. And i have cable. It is really ridiculous

It's almost like there's room for some enterprising company to bundle together a bunch of popular services and deliver them in a single package to viewers for a set price.....

You only need three: Showtime ($11 per month), DAZN ($10 per month) and ESPN+ ($5 per month). If you drop HBO at $15 per month, then it's a financial push if you're already a Showtime subscriber. That's what I'm going to do.

I don't care about "Game of Thrones" or any other huge HBO shows. Does anyone watch HBO for movies anymore? I watch "Silicon Valley," which isn't as good since T.J. Miller left the show, and "The Deuce." That's it. I can live without both.

The PBC will be the only boxing organization still on PPV through its deal with Showtime if ESPN+ and DAZN get enough subscribers. And what PBC fighter can carry a PPV? Keith Thurman? Danny Garcia? Don't make me laugh while I'm drinking hot tea.

Pacquiao is reportedly the newest Haymon serf, but his days as a PPV draw are over. Deontay Wilder is maybe the only fighter in Haymon's deep but limited stable who could be on PPV, and that's only against Joshua.

Canelo and Anthony Joshua will not be on PPV, as DAZN is a streaming service without PPV. None of Top Rank's guys will be on PPV, as ESPN and ESPN+ are a network and streaming service, respectively. No PPV.

A gradual shift away from the PPV model is good for boxing and its fans. It's happening right now.

As soon as YouTube TV gets MSG (Knicks, baby!) and NFL RedZone, I'm kissing cable goodbye. If Fubo got ESPN, I would switch today, as it already has MSG, NFL RedZone, FS1 and FS2, NBCSN and beIN Sports (soccer, MotoGP). I would be covered.

Yep. Any of you mofos b*tching about paying for multiple streaming services who then pay $100 to see Khabib "fight" Mayweather can sidle up to the all-you-can-eat hypocrisy buffet right now.

and what price is this going for???? $59.99???? there might be some hardcore buys but the casual fan will not pay for this. (i'm not either) neither guy has enough fan base to even garner ppv yet. IF i see it, it will be at a bar (maybe $10-15 bucks or so) if any are even going to show it at all given the popularity of these two fighters to the casual fan. the best bet would be regular showtime for this one and it will set up the winner for a decent ppv vs. joshua.
