Re: Boxing Off-Topic
This fight bore out my new policy regarding boxing PPVs: If the fight is not a 60/40 or 50/50 fight on paper, then I will not spend money on it. Showtime, ESPN+ and DAZN already are getting enough of my money per month for boxing. I'm not paying for the privilege of seeing a match for which we already know the outcome before the opening bell.
Crawford-Khan was a 95/5 fight on paper, and it was a 100/0 fight in the ring. I'm glad I didn't pay for it. Found a good stream on Periscope, watched it to admire Bud's abundant talent and snicker at the fools who spent $75 on a card with horrible mismatches from top to bottom.Xbox Live: pk4425Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
I'd be interested on the buy numbers/profitability of that Crawford-Khan "fight", but if they made any money at all (and I'm sure they did), it's a horrible precedent going forward. Obvious mis-match of a main event in a fight that absolutely had no business occurring in the first place, with a string of poor undercard bouts, for $75. I'd blame the promoters and the biz, but if they're able to make money doing this, hard to argue with their approach....Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
That's what led to Ray Leonard and Angelo Dundee splitting up. Dundee initially made a hefty 15% of Sugar's purses but generously released Ray from that contract with two years left when he started making millions. For the Hagler fight, he worked without a contract and made $150,000 which came out to 1.2% of Ray's take ($12 million). When he insisted on a contract for the Lalonde light heavyweight championship fight Leonard got upset that he wouldn't take whatever he was offered and that was it for the union.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
Let's also be honest about Bud Crawford's name recognition: Nobody outside of the boxing hardcores has a clue who he is. Top Rank has done a very lousy job with his PR, and Bud doesn't help because he is quiet and would prefer to let his fighting do the talking.
Bud is No. 1 or 2 on every pound-for-pound list. But if a list of boxing name recognition was made, Bud wouldn't even crack the top 10. Meanwhile, complete azzclowns like Broner and Tank Davis would be on that list.Xbox Live: pk4425Comment

That's the kind of name/face recognition Terence Crawford has.Comment

Re: Boxing Off-Topic
Edwin Valero was worse in the last 15 years -- hell, he murdered his WIFE. But he's dead, so Broner is the king of the sh*theel hill now.
I have no sympathy for Valero. But Pacquiao-Valero at 135 or 140 is one of the greatest matchups of the last 20 years that sadly never took place in boxing. That fight would have looked like a joust between dueling eggbeaters -- punches in bunches flying from every possible angle from both men.Xbox Live: pk4425Comment
