Re: Combo Spam
Slight? Maybe. :P
I fought a JDS who threw 120 strikes in the first round; landed about 30 of them. Walked out in the 2nd round with 95% stamina.
Just......dumb. It's not like 90 of his 120 strikes were jabs/straights either. Lots of uppercuts and body/leg kicks.
I definitely worked his body and kept trying to lay traps for him. I eventually had his stamina down big. But he won the first two rounds on volume, and i wasn't able to finish him in the 3rd, so lost a split decision.
that's how it goes sometimes. But trust me, 100+ strikes with very poor accuracy by a HW, and them walking out with massive stamina in round 2, happens all the time unless you're spamming head movement/step backs :P
Which is obviously what I suggest people do if going against a super pressure guy lol it's your only hope ----PSN: Boiler569

Re: Combo Spam
As per usual gen pop has no idea what they’re talking about. If these guys aren’t getting their stamina drained from throwing strikes that means you’re getting hit. Not to mention if someone is spamming combos you can easily slip and counter. If you don’t want to do that, you can literally just block if they’re doing something like spamming only hooks.
The skill deficit between the top 40 to 100 players is huge let alone the deficit between the top 100 and the rest of players.
I keep putting this challenge out for anyone on Xbox to pick Gohkan Saki and use his insane combos on me. I won’t take you down and I will only throw single strikes.
This whole thread is ridiculous. Of course angel wants to get rid of combos. All he does is circle behind the black lines and throw jabs until he can use the one combo he knows (overhand, lead uppercut, hook) and hope for a quick KO.
Another guy saying the lead leg kick, overhand combo is cheese. Bruh, you can’t even throw the overhand if you get your kick checked. And if you know they’re gonna do it, just block. Like, what?
Zero pattern recognition skills going around here.

It’s the issue of stamina barely being affected when strikes are blocked. That is legit.Comment

Re: Combo Spam
The whole issue with whatever strategy has been popular so far (Body uppercuts, knee/elbows, head movement and now combos) is that they are easy to execute and very rewarding while the counterplay to them is considerably harder with hardly any payoff.
I think it is quite obvious that inefficient high volume striking should be heavily taxing by itself regardless of whether the defender dodges or blocks it. People will always opt in for the quickest win method unless you make bum-rushing and reckless play actually very punishing if you make mistakes.
I agree with the notion that ideally the emphasis should be on the defender making outplays rather than passively blocking and backpedaling but only when the optimal strike output would be reduced to 60-75 non-sway strikes per round rather than the ludicrous 120-140 that people throw now.¯\_(ツ)_/¯Comment

You lost me when you said easily slip and counter, unless your talking about day one game then yes. Now heck no accuracy catches up to you faster then the slips to even use the counter strikes.

You’re doing it wrong or you’re playing Ultimate Team.
This is a note to anyone who is basing their gameplay experiences on Ultimate Team: you aren’t actually playing the game in its most pure form. Ultimate Team is a side mode where the variances in stats create weird situations.
The proper way to make judgements on the gameplay meta is to use high tier stock fighters vs. high tier stock fighters OR low tier stock fighters against low tier stock fighters.
Anything with wonky stat differentials is going to give you the wrong perception of how the game is really played in quick match and ranked.

Re: Combo Spam
I really dont understand why everyone wants so much stamina tax on pretty much everything.. and then the same people complaining about combo spam being too powerful want the block to be nerfed lmao... i dont understand the logic... does everyone want the meta to be standing there conserving energy... mma isnt about who can conserve the most energy... a game where you just stand there back lunging out of range or holding block until the other guy tires out sounds incredibly boring, and thats exactly what the game would turn into...

Re: Combo Spam
And if you do get all the stamina tax you beg for be prepared for nothing but high stamina fighter mirror matches every single fight...

Re: Combo Spam
Oh I dunno maybe because fighters are throwing 150 strikes per round in five round fights with next to no stamina penalty. . . This is with guys with no tank IRL
Not to mention in it's current state it takes away from fighter individuality significantlyLast edited by Find_the_Door; 03-29-2018, 03:20 PM.Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira - UFC Hall of FameComment

Re: Combo Spam
I dont remember anyone playing any differently in ufc 2 than people do now when it comes to exploiting game mechanics... all people did in 2 was sway backwards and throw 1-2 body kicks, or duck takedown and control on top... the striking is wayyyy better this time around... is it perfect? no... is there way more variety in the striking now? Yes... atleast now someone cant just pick a long reach fighter and back sway body kick you to death... people could throw 200 strikes a rnd in 2 also as long as they werent heavy strikes which meant everyone just threw 1-2's and body kicks.. that was literally all i played against... the only time someone would throw anything different was after a parry....

I think the game is better overall. But in terms of blocking and stamina specifically UFC 2 was betterComment
