Haha, ridiculous how fast some of these fights end. I haven't had a single fight even make it to round 3. Maybe like 1 or 2 out of dozens and dozens of fights. I'd say 50% don't even make it out of round one! Haha then if it does it's usually over before the end of round 2.

Makes the perks that give you extra stamina in round 3-5 useless now hah.

Oh man this game is nuts right now on ranked.

I can't seem to counter very well since this patch. I use head movement to try and get them to lose more stamina but I just keep getting hit when I try to fire back after a slip.I can avoid strikes pretty well but I can only seem to get most of my attack off when I'm the one who initiates it otherwise I get clipped.

Dude, you don’t have to punish every single time you slip. That will come along easier as you get more and more used to the timing. For now, focus on slipping and blocking their strikes. Then attack the BODY! I’ve been up and down these forums and I swear I have not seen one person try to help others by giving them good advice. Every body shot that lands drains their long term stamina. Use jab-lead body hook. Or straight-lead body hook-rear body hook. Try and focus your strategy on doing damage to the body. I promise you that you will begin to have more success in your fights. You rip their body apart, and you will see the significant advantage you gain by doing so. Their speed will decline tremendously and you will be able to see strikes coming from a mile away. Believe me. 🤙

I do try to go to the body mostly and use head movement as well to take their stamina down even more. I'm not always trying to counter after every slip, I mostly just use it to make them miss, but the couple of times I do try, it rarely works. The only counters I can really get are after big strikes that miss like overhands or head kicks since the recovery is slow. Anything else and I get hit by the follow up. I hardly ever try counters because of it.

Just practice your minor slips in quick match and when you get the hang of it, minor side sway to straight-lead body hook-rear body hook. You will have success I promise.

Re: Guys, please let me help you get accustomed to the new update.

I just wanted to thank you for the posting this. I have been an avid reader of these forums for a long time and the thq forums back when they had the license. I follow a lot of the big dogs around here including GPD on twitter and I am huge fan of Martial Mind's YouTube channel. I have had a lot of trouble with both UFC 2 and now 3. In EA UFC I was able to get into the top 50 and I was super active in a lot of the leagues. Recently I decided to stop silently following the forums and watching videos hoping to improve my game, and become active in the discussions.

This thread was able able to break through my thick skull, I am finally starting to get head movement and work around the constant pressure fighting. My ground game is pretty much terrible, I had a decent game on UFC 1 but I can't seem to grasp it in this game. Again, thank you RetractedMonkey for this thread!

If anyone on Xbox One wants to school me or have some fun my GT is Heilige Ehre.

How do you escape someone constantly pressuring you with different combos, smashing your block and any sway you will most likely run into a hook?

You have to make them pay for constant pressure. Don’t block and back up so much. Stand your ground, and throw out some counters. Easiest way to interrupt a barrage of strikes is by simply throwing a jab out there. Throw a jab-hook. Then work the body, every body shot that lands takes away their long term stamina (I’m talking about significant body shots I.e hooks, uppercuts, body kicks, not just straights). And the more body damage they take, they become much much much slower and you can react to their strikes a lot easier. If you rip the body apart, you will see combinations coming from a mile away. Trust me.

I've tried this, i'm not a noob i was 11th in the PS4 rankings before the patch, if i get rocked with the constant pressure, it would be suicide to try and counter when i'm hurt.

Awww sweet, Elbows (specifically the rear elbow) seem to have been tweaked to counter body shots.

I just destroyed Emmett after he threw a 3b-4b with a rear elbow after catching him with one earlier in the fight, I was Dan Hooker so it certainly wasn't a stat thing (Buff the Hangman!)

I'm not sure but it kind of feels like Elbows are also more effective for taller fighters maybe, obvious a long reach helps a lot too.

But yeah, next time someone is getting predictable with body shots and are constantly in your face, try the rear elbow, it hits haaaaard.

Re: Guys, please let me help you get accustomed to the new update.

I'll be honest. I groan when I hear people on this forum use the term "combo spam." There are many different types of spam that have reared their head in this game (head movement spam, body spam, etc), but "combo spam" is not one of them.

Right now a simple slip toward the lead leg followed by a straight counters every punch except a hook clean.

So here's a tip some of you might not know. If you slip TOWARD your lead leg and throw a straight, the straight comes out faster. It's a special blended animation. Use it, abuse it, love it.

If someone starts altering their jab tempo to break your block (in other words instead of jab, jab, jab, they're throwing jab...jab...jab), use the R1 + R2 retreat.

On the topic of the R1+R2 retreat, I've seen many people complain it burns through stamina. While it probably does consume a bit too much right now, you AREN'T supposed to hold it and use it all the time like a get out of jail free card. It's a last resort when lunges and slips are failing you and you're desperate to escape pressure. It works alarmingly well for that.

GPD added some increased vulnerability on the legs when people are moving sideways (circling). If someone is constantly circling, this should do more damage. I believe he forgot to mention this in the notes.

One of the most powerful forms of defense and gassing aggressive fighters is to block the 2-3 straight punches they use to break down your block and BACK LUNGE the power strike (the hook or uppercut). This takes some timing but it's stupidly effective.

The minor slip left into the minor slip right (or vice versa) is surprisingly effective against people trying to pressure you. The amount of double slips you can get from people pressure spamming is pretty surprising, but maybe it shouldn't be since GPD improved head movement responsiveness. You don't even need to counter back. This just gasses people like nobody's business.

Body kicks are now way, way better than they used to be thanks to the ability to block your face if your leg is caught. This patch really elevated guys like Overeem & Rockhold thanks to that.

Body shots are very risky against combinations because they are ultimately slow compared to combo/hook spam. Combos are way too fast in this game & pace isn't even close to being realistic as every fighter throws faster than JJ did against Penne. But it's not big issue and i'm okay with that because last patch was huge improvement.

This issues here are the skill level required and the risk reward.

Combos are more stamina efficient than a simple retreat option. That's ridiculous.

Timing the head movement(which is in a great place now) requires way more skill than mashing a few buttons.

The retreat stamina drain isn't just from holding. As soon as you initiate you lose a chunk of perm stam which is crazy.

Right now the game makes defense take a lot of skill. That's fine but offense takes very little. Just mix up different hard combos.

I just want the jab to no longer break the block (or at least cut its effectiveness in half).

I know this probably sounds crazy to you since you're in the top 1 percentile when it comes to skill but the majority of players can't do what you do lol. We also don't have gaming monitors and the rendered 60 FPS which helps with reacting

I've slipped since, but damn if this thread didn't help me get used to the changes.
