Re: EA UFC 3 Random Thoughts Thread

People are weird. I get on my alt, go on quick fight for some fun.

Use Jim Miller, the dude chooses Kevin Lee, it's a decent fight, I ducked a high kick and then rocked him, he quits.

Second fight I choose Moicano, the dude chooses Zabit.
I win most of the exchanges, and I refuse to chase the dude since Zabit's footwork is better or at least his tools are more annoying to deal with when it's a Zabit that's backing away, everything I have an answer for, but it's a decent fight. I hit stunned him off of a straight when he was going for a leg kick, he quits out.

Neither of those guys seemed like they were too bummy, so I was surprised that they quit out considering that both times I had the lower rated fighter in a 5 round fight.

My favourite part about UFC 3 is I can pick Yoel Romero and fight with the cardio and the output of Tony Ferguson.

All this talk about how there's elbow range, hook range, straight punch and then kicking range. And yet 99% of the player base believes that only elbow range aka swanging n banging in the pocket range exists.

Except I've got 97 power, and the rest of the division for the most part has **** chins.

        Raise my hand Herb.

I agree. You could ball up the fist but thats kind of "odd" imo. Would love to see if the ufc team or whatever comes up with ideas for a new glove to keep that eyepoke problem from happening.

I'm worried curved gloves would make it harder to grapple with. But, yeah. They need to do something. So tired of these "Stern warnings" for practically blinding a man.

If you look at the full video thread, I posted videos where people quit on me after getting a couple transitions denied. One of them was even winning the fight and he quit...

Re: EA UFC 3 Random Thoughts Thread

I'm seeing a good number of Granby Rolls these days and man, wouldn't having them as a viable option to escape Back Clinch be awesome. Especially if there's real time grappling. Imagine the scrambles.

On that note, I think there should be different positions when a fighter pounces on a hurt opponent. For example, it's not always half-guard or top mount (by the way, there used to be this straight to mount sequence in the older games that I've probably seen 3 times in UFC 3). Very often you're talking about a Back Side situation. Actually, speaking of scrambles, I think if not very badly hurt, the defender should be able to try to move to a different position while the other guy is raining down punches. Again, one of the common ones is turtling where it's either Back Side or Back Mount. They can also try to get to turtling long enough to just avoid being finished before trying to scramble and do something explosive. Maybe a Granby Roll. Edit: since I'd also like to see dynamic stats which drop after health events and damage meaning more, trying to explode after a big health event should be pretty sloppy and laboured in general. But looking to move to a safer position should be a thing even in such cases.

I'm just thinking out loud here, the main point of the second paragraph is trying to get to a more defensive position of the player's choice if they're in a good enough condition to do so, which is what intelligent defence is, plus adding more variety to the already stale punches until HG or KO scenario.

Oh, the Granby Roll can also be used to scramble from Back Mount bottom.

I only use head movement when the fighter is using specific patterns that become predictable, which is how I feel like it’s supposed to be used to avoid getting yourself KOed faster, that, I can appreciate about this head movement system. But at the same time, it’s timing is incredibly awkward and needs improvement much like striking/combo inputs. The button assignment isn’t exactly built for everyone either, so that is understandably an issue for a lot of people probably. Slight changes to make it feel like FNC as far as control scheme would be great. But also only elite level fighters should have head movement that actually feels as smooth as FNC too.

FNC doesn't have to worry about kicks, takedowns, clinch, etc etc, so I wonder what else can be suggested for inputs. Personally I'm fine with it for the most part aside from the horrid tracking issues, that needs to be fixed, like this:

                        Here's a thought I had these days:

I think a change to one stamina bar instead of the two we have now will go a long way in making the stamina system more realistic in case they don't make any major overhauls in that area. I'm not sure if it would be sufficient on its own, perhaps stamina recovery between rounds can do with a nerf as well, my point is that a change so simple will likely achieve so much.

In any case, giving fighters just one stamina bar should be done regardless of anything, it's a must.

I've always wanted separated stamina for grappling and striking, however not implemented this way. Moreso stamina penalties when throwing combinations/chaining grappling transitions. I feel like that would force more fighters to fight like their chosen character, the Diaz brothers are more effective with their cardio with striking than grappling for instance, similarly with barbosa and poirer

Yes, the rate at which you lose stamina on the ground and on the feet should still be different.

No prior head rocks, first round against Holloway who has a 96/97 chin. Clean counter, clean finish.

My issue is that the game allows for an insane amount of health events in general, makes it possible.

Not all damaging strikes are perfect counter-hits, sometimes you just pummel someone and rock them many, many times without peak vulnerability. Sometimes it is indeed a counter, or a bunch of counters, just not ones that force such an extreme level of vulnerability as in your video and they keep plodding forward without any signs that their vitals are messed up, i.e. something significant has happened. The health event in UFC is very much like a goal in FIFA — a point on the board and you get a ****load of points (whereas in real life that's rarely the case, especially in MMA where there are stoppages). And you often have to hurt guys so many times that it takes you completely out of the moment.

Obviously if one does master counter striking like you have you'll be finishing fights much faster. However, my argument is not that you can't do it under any circumstances whatsoever, it's more about that having to be a much bigger possibility in circumstances different than leaning into strikes or Conor McGregor-like precision counter-striking.

Take a heavyweight fight for example. It's blink and you'll miss it with those guys. They all run the risk of getting slept in a flash. So you don't stand and trade with Ngannou, no matter how good of a striker you are (in this case — player). Instead, you look to tie him up, stay out of range, etc, at all costs. But never exchange. Catch my drift? There's too much room for error currently. Whereas right now you, MartialMind, etc. can strike with Ngannou using DC or probably even Oleinik with tremendous success, just because you, the players, are great at striking.

Let's encourage people to really care about what each fighter brings to the table is what I'm saying. That includes stamina too. I'm pretty sure you get what I'm saying. Oh, and I very much appreciate the skills that you guys possess, I really do! The game has certain mechanics and properties, whether I like them or not, and you've mastered them. I just hope those change in the future and I'm sure if they did you'd be able to adapt just as well.

And boy, do I get in a posting mood whenever this is brought up

Edit: oh, and even though I've been campaigning for more realism for ages now, I do realise it's a game and obviously player skill should matter a bunch. I just think there's still so much room for such changes to be made before you could say "okay, any more of that kind of realism and the game won't work". So yeah, I just think there's a lot that can be done still.
