Re: Why can people play like terminators
Yo, I am a veteran player. I have taken the time to adapt my gameplay style to accommodate the changes that have been made since release. I feel like this game still rewards players for fighter like a "terminator" in which the player chooses the top fighter in the division to overwhelm anybody they are matched against. I use the daily featured fighters and then choose randomly after. Most of the time I get lower rated fighters so I have to use defense and counters to wear down my opponents. I try to use everything from stand up, to clinch, and the ground. I know how to get out of most positions and can defend transitions pretty well most of the time. I have fun playing ranked because it is a challenge for me to fight players using only low rated fighters. Do not get me wrong though, every once in awhile I do randomly select an A fighter and it kinda ****s me up because I tend to take it easy because I feel it is unfair for a player like me to choose a high rated fighter. My problem with the game is that I will be literally dominating fights and then get knocked out in the third round with a hailmary shot that I usually do not recover from....and the whole time most of these players are walking forward and just eating my shots like if they are candy. But I take one little baby shot and I'm done. **** makes no sense to me. Sorry for the long post.Comment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
Most people on most platforms tbh. Twitter, here, reddit, discord and xbox. People on all platforms identified pressure as an issue. I know we had to argue for months, people will argue against any change they dislike and that is fine, people will argue for knee and elbow spam to be kept the same as they think its fun to hear noobs scream, doesnt make them any less wrong or with the majority.
Also respond to my pm lol
That wasnt the case for movement or pressure. The devs saw a segment of the community complain about it and others complain that they were seeing the opposite. So they took their time in deciding how to approach those changes.
If it was universal, it would gone straight to the top of their list and wouldve been addressed early.Comment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
If it was as universal as you say, it wouldnt have taken as long as it did. I was behind the scenes on this one. An example of something that was pretty much universal was the head movement issues at launch. Everyone was complaining about that and the devs got to work on fixing that one immediately even though it took a few patches to completely fix it.

Re: Why can people play like terminators
I actually find it hard to relentlessly pressure and throw about 130 strikes in a round. Even against bad players I end up getting rocked or dropped. That's just me though. I seem to struggle against bad players sometimes because they throw strikes from out of range and I end up running into it if I get too aggressive. I can beat someone in the top 20 playing more patiently and end up losing to someone not even top 100 because some of them have no sense of range or timing and it throws me off. I end up having to let them gas rather than trying to run through themComment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
It's crazy man. I guess I have this on every game where I expect people to do things that makes sense and then some random horrible dude comes with some outrageous **** and I don't react well to it. I got knocked out by a Gokhan Sakhi two days ago who threw overhands all over the place way outof range and I actually got caught and lost. Wasn't even frustrated, had a good laugh and moved on.Comment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
as a div 4 UT player and being somewhere around 3500th in rankings, this is my subjective opinion, i am not gonna pretend i am something or somebody that i am not nor demand that devs MUST change something because of my opinion, no this is just my opinion and experience and nobody should take it personally, that wasnt my intent ever.
i just lost fight, where opponent was just walking forward with some mixture of hooks and 1,2. well after reading this forum and watching some youtube videos i thought well i can do what ufcdev said in one of his videos to go back and throw straight to stop forward moving opponent spamming hooks, i also thought i can try to use block counter, well i was wrong.
i dont know what exactly happened , if my timing was off or minor lag was present but it didnt seems to work like it works usually.
so here are my few thoughts on this
-i dont like queue system at all, it s recipe for disaster if any lag is involved imho
-defense seems to be nerfed compared to UFC2
--head movement is especially hard to pull for somebody like me, because there re always combos flying at u and if u stay in sway too long u will get autotracked by following punch, which again is feature i dont like, same goes for accuracy, UFC2 head movement was just absurd and easy, but ufc3 seems way too hard for me i literally went to training room with heavyweights and just try to slip strikes and combos and it was horrible
--forward moving combos or strikes cover way too much distance, i am trying lately learn how to major back lunge correctly and i have some success but i am still baffled by amount of distance that queued forward moving (or maybe forward, stationary, forward again combos?) combos can cover
--block is much more weaker than ufc2 and also combos are designated to break block, which for me personally raises a question: who exactly in UFC is fighting like Rocky Marciano? i understand block is just one button easy to hold but i dont barely see anyone using body shots or try to hit unblocked part of body, everybody is just so focused on breaking block with combos again n again n again
i mean i dont want ufc2 back with body spam, but all i see in div 4 UT is boxing combos for breaking block, some body roundhouse kicks and some leg kicks and very few teep kicks and that s about it.
-i have personally issues with tiny reaction window frames for everything, if i am trying to block counter with fast hook on lead leg side i have to block their strike, release block and do hook before their queued strike will hit me, so worse my skill is, worse my internet is, worse my experience will be with pressure fighters
perhaps one day in future maybe devs can think about making it about strategy than just about who is faster in queuing combos or in queing counters, not saying u have to ofc
-another thing i dont really understand, why strikes hitting ur block costs less stamina than missed strikes and why strikes hitting ur block count almost like it s strike that hit u somehow
in real ufc people broke their hands in striking exchanges, people broke their hands in ground n pound, on other hand some hands were broken while blocking with kicks etc.
but back to that strikes on block, i think stamina tax should be higher, because it seems to me like nobody is trying to hit unblocked part of ur body, everybody is just going to queue combos hoping for block break or that u will get caught by one of queued strikes trying to counter.
pressure fighting is especially problem in UT because if u play grapplers n specialists u dont have much slots for standup and i basically ended up with some combination of speed and footwork, so i can shoot sometimes back, because it seems only real defense in this game is offense, which is little weird if u ask meComment

There's a great chance that if you tried those same techniques against a higher skilled player like Romero or MMAGame, Advaita, etc, you wouldn't see it being effective. In order to pressure effectively you do need skill.
With that being said, it is harder in my opinion to be defensive than it is to be offensive, the skill gap is greater. You need to know to recognize patterns, move correctly, have proper timing and utilize all your distance management tools. It is much easier to just go forward and wing combos while looking at your stamina. However, at the higher ranks of skilled play marching forward is a sure way to get yourself KO'd. One lean slip counter, or a lunge pivot or opening yourself up to clinch/tds, there's a lot to it
Your reactions will improve with time as you get use to seeing thingsComment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
This is just inexcusable. If this volume of strikes are possible in 1 round at HW... why not allow 300 strikes in a round at BW as a viable approach to fighting?
I was raging after this fight. It was just a guy moving forward and spamming. I made him miss (head movement, blocking, dodging) about 100 times and he got the KO in the last 5 seconds of the round. He was not slowing down at all.Attached FilesComment

I'm not saying that you arent right about the need for a stamina change but one of the biggest causes of a stamina drop is a health event and you werent active enough to cause one on your opponent.Comment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
I'm not saying that you are wrong about stamina being unrealistic at times but according to those stats, you didnt exactly punish him for his aggressiveness. You landed 10 sig strikes and only threw 23 against someone who was really aggressive and plenty of openings to counter. You also had one of the most powerful fighters in the game who likely wouldve caused a stoppage or health event if you were more active with your counter opportunities.
I'm not saying that you arent right about the need for a stamina change but one of the biggest causes of a stamina drop is a health event and you werent active enough to cause one on your opponent.
But the larger issue is that I did my part defensively. A person that throws this much in a round should be damned near death... hell... half way thru the round I should have seen him slow down considerably. You cant put finishing pressure on anyone for 5 mins.
Also keep in mind that he threw 90+ more strikes than me and only connected 29 more times. Many of which were jabsComment

You are literally admitting that you're messing up the counterplays and your conclusion is that the game is at fault.

I used to have a big issue with the game because the skill floor of pressure was much lower than the skill floor of counter/outside fighting. The game's in a much better position in terms of skill floors at the moment.¯\_(ツ)_/¯Comment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
He was rocked once and maybe you are right... I should have taken a chance and thrown more strikes. However, the rate at which he was throwing strikes and speed difference between these two made that a big challenge.
But the larger issue is that I did my part defensively. A person that throws this much in a round should be damned near death... hell... half way thru the round I should have seen him slow down considerably. You cant put finishing pressure on anyone for 5 mins.

I dont think EA wants to encourage players to be "Mayweathers" . They are fine with you being able to use movement and head movement to set up counter strikes and other ways to punish your opponent. They dont want a game where people are being 100% defensive just so they can drain someone's stamina.
The way others look at it is a way to stop the aggression is to make them pay for it. If you knock him down or cause health events, he wont be physically able to push that pace because his perm stamina will drop so low. Thats not even mentioning the fact that if he remains that aggressive while you are landing counters the likelihood of him getting stopped is higher.
From the stats, it seems that you have mastered defense but the game only rewards damage and punishment and you werent willing to counter enough to punish him.Comment
