Like if they had Pride instead of Kumite, you dont think casuals would enjoy the japanese ruleset where they can stomp and kick opponents in the face?
Well....EA disagrees with you. Let me make this clear. EA could create a pride ring. They could create ring physics that include ropes. They could add animations for things like soccer kicks and knees to the head.

They dont want to because they dont believe the audience they are targeting cares about that and that is what drives a decision to put resources into something.

All Kumite is a new arena (which funny enough appears to have replaced the Saitama Arena (the home of Pride) in the game) and new sound effects. For Pride, you need to do more than that. New arena. New ring physics. New mocap for pride rules (that cant be used in any other mode).

The bottom line is EA doesnt see the value in it that the people here do.

Pride rules requires new mocap to do it right (soccer kicks, knees to the head, possibly new positions).

Again, they COULD do all this stuff. But they dont think its the right direction.

Instead we get full Mortal Kombat, with zany sound effects....

*eyes roll so far back into my skull it literally hurts*
        Haz,

What you think is "super cool and different" doesnt ****ing matter.

What I think is "super cool and different" doesnt ****ing matter.

EA isnt selling the game to us.

I guess its fun to complain and argue about this stuff but as you guys may have noticed I dont do that much anymore. EA gave us their answer about how they feel about the community when they released this game.

All of this forums input didnt really matter other than in certain gameplay areas. There comes a point where you have to just accept EA's position and move the hell on.

FYI everyone, EA seems very happy with the initial sales and overall feedback of this game after the first weekend. I dont see them moving away from a casual focused game at this point.

That's true that ea doesnt care as much about our demands than casuals. That said casuals would've eaten up pride rules. They might not have used the fighters much but the rules would've been super cool and different for them.

I was a casual fan during UD3, I didn't play online either. But I played pride mode even tho I didn't know much about it or the fighters. The soccer kicks etc really added replay value.

            How do you know that?

I'm not going to argue this because honestly I really dont give a **** about Pride or Pride Mode but one thing I know about EA is that if it can make them revenue....they go for it.

So if their data/feedback told them that casuals would love Pride.....Pride would be in the game. Period.

Im not sure but it was an educated guess. Maybe it takes more resources than the reward but I think people would've used it more than KO or stand and bang. It has a lot of replay value.

                That's a cop out and a half.

Would it take more resources than literally just straight up reskinning the UFC octagon? Yeah sure. But come on, Undisputed was able to do it over 8 years ago on last generation hardware....

EA just puts bare minimum effort into their products.

The collective casual audience MMA IQ WILL gradually rise. As that happens, this series will follow along, catering to that demand for more (clinch positions, seated cage, etc).

I really do believe EA will gradually be forced to cater to a more knowledgeable customer base.

I dont know about that man. If anything EA is going in the opposite direction and the sales that they are generating encourage them to keep going in that direction.

I think at this point . Going on about pride mode is just giving yourself a head ache.

Then again , you gotta admit it was pretty cheeky puting in the gloves in cosmetics.

See FIFA will get better before EA gives us a pride mode.

This isn't 'coding' they teach in Grade 2 - this is high level and extremely complicated stuff.

Lots of people brush it off because they just don't understand.

Yes. It's incredibly difficult and time consuming.
You don't need a computer science degree to understand game development. Obviously a few new mocaps would be needed as well as game balancing too. To say it's impossible is patently false - it is they just haven't deemed it worthwhile yet.

Perhaps casual was the wrong word to use here, because casual implies they will always be casuals. A better fit is general MMA audience at large, the majority that they want to cater to (more money for EA). Right now, that is a more casual audience supposedly.

At some point, the majority of the audience is going to be different than it is today in 2020. The majority say 5 to 10 years from now will hopefully know much more about the sport. Especially with the globalization of the sport, I believe this will have an impact on the overall audience's MMA IQ long term.

I know this is opposite of the way it should work, EA deciding to cater to us just straight away. EA has shown us that's Not how this is going to happen though. They will only move once forced by the majority of the fight fans.

Popularity and Globalization of the sport is our friend here. We have definitely lost this fight, no doubt about it. But the war is not lost yet. It's just going to take some time for globalization and popularity of the sport to raise the collective audience's MMA IQ.

The difference is Fight Night was built with sharp corners in mind from the ground up. UFC was build specifically with an octagon in mind.

What should happen when the fighters are pressed against the ropes? Do you go to a UFC style clinch up against an invisible wall, or do you build a new system to support ropes, with new logic and new animations?

Let's say you go with a UFC style clinch (like was done for Kumite and Back Yard) what happens when you start moving along the invisible cage and you hit a 90 degree corner? Do the systems and animations you captured support that?

What if you're playing against the AI and you pin him in the corner. How does he get out? Has logic been built to support that case?

All of these things can be solved, but they are by no means trivial and would take considerable time away from the core MMA gameplay.

to be fair, he didnt say it was impossible. He said it would be difficult and time consuming...which it arguably would be. Lets argue the points people actually make instead of ones we make up.
