about the ground game. Do you have to do a minor transition first , then the major or does it matter. I keep getting these guys mounting me and they GNP me before I can get out.

The first thing you should when you hit the ground is hold the RS either directly left or right. That will block transitions. When you think you've got an opening, like maybe you've just blocked a transition, try and get a major transition. There's times when a minor is better, but in general, if you don't really know what's going on, err on the side of majors. Immediately after your transition attempt, start blocking again.

The blocking isn't foolproof, though. A lot of it depends on ratings, and the guy getting blocked gets a bonus to his attempt each time he's blocked so that a defender can't just hold a guy helpless. So if you've blocked a handful of transition attempts, understand it's getting more likely his transition will be successful, so try and get your transition in first.

If the guy is one of those guys that just tries to transition over and over to get to mount without pausing or striking at all, you can try timing one of his transitions. As soon as you see him move, flick the RS either left or right. If you timed it properly, you'll reverse the transition and end up in an advantageous position where you can try and control the ground or just stand back up by clicking the LS.

great info ! Thanks. I was just trying transitions and covering up. Wasn't using the R stick very much.

Yeah you also need to consider what position you are in, as it is easier to get a major transition to happen from an already dominant position (such as side control to mount) than it is from close guard to half guard, for example. So if you're in somone's guard, the best bet is to minor to open guard up and then try a major to side control when you see an opening. If you have a specific goal in mind, always try to go the shortest route possible, as less transitions means less likelihood of the guy reversing it.

So yeah, go with majors most of the time (especially if they don't know what they're doing on the ground or have much worse grapple ratings than you) but use minors when you're in close guard more often than not (plus that gives you better striking position).

Something I've noticed, maybe it's just me.

When sparring, it seems like I am ALWAYS able to get a submission on my sparring partner. I'm a boxer/wrestler and have very low sub offense, but it seems like I can always get it to work no matter what the stamina.

I can button mash pretty quickly, but I'm not sure if this is a glitch or if I just keep getting lucky. I can never sub in an actual fight, but I can always get one sparring. This lets me build up sparring points rather quickly. Anybody else experience something like this?

Yeah the sparring partner seems to let you submit him... I noticed that too. I was trying a rear naked choke just to get a sub attempt credit -- I let off the stick completely when it was in the 2nd stage of being locked in ( just wanted the credit and then was gonna let him up) and it just continued to choke him until he submitted. He also generally lets you pass guard easier than most opponents, though his striking is as on-point as most top-level competition when you get the Level 5 guy... kinda weird I guess.

RB blocks high, RT blocks mid and low. Right stick up catches high, right stick down catches mid and low. Caught punches go into a clinch, caught kicks go into a takedown.

Can anyone explain the clinch to me in attack. I can get the clinch but am unable to keep it. My opponent just pushes me off. How do you keep your opponent in the clinch?

In defence, i've read and understand the best way is to just block and then catch a knee for the takedown. If I just wanted to push out and be standing, how do I do this?

                    Thanks

I need help with Reversals - when should I be flicking that stick? When is the best time to flick the stick and get a reversal? And am I actually flicking it, or like a long flick?

I can't explain, but just add I'd really like to learn more about clinches as well. I think one thing that really matter is your opponents clinch def vs your clinch off. Someone with a high def can simply back out of it. You also need to be careful with your punches/knees in the clinch as well. It's easy to catch and reverse the clinch if you aren't careful.

You want to flick just as the other guy goes into his transition. And a quick flick is all that's needed. If you hold it, you will simply block (which isn't bad either).

Oh new moves? I'd hope for more submissions from each position, but that sounds too good to be true.

something also tells me they won't be adding more moves in DLC next week.

Go into practice mode and practice the step and then x or y. It's tricky and you have to time it just right.

Flying punch: not every fighter can throw this. Depends on the guy. If your guy can do some type of special punch, hold the LB button down when you punch. you need a little distance between you and the other guy.
