Re: OS MMA Random Thread
BJ had no business being in there. I was pulling for him tonight, but now I wish he would've just retired after his last fight. Hate to see him go out like that.Comment

Re: OS MMA Random Thread
Well, this event capped off the most boring TUF season in a while, with some pretty exciting finishes.
In the house I wasn't too impressed with Eddie Gordon, but he put on a show. Anderson was pretty impressive too.
Pretty solid weekend for the UFC. Only real disappointment was the cancelation of the Struve fight.Comment

I can't wait for the female season in September.
I figured BJ would get beat and retire. He got whooped

Still, Penn probably had more natural ability in the sport than 99% of those that have stepped in the Octagon.Currently Playing:

Happy trails BJ.
BJ Penn was the man, sad to see him go again but am glad that he is stepping away. I think he has done all he can do in the octagon.
I haven't watched the post fight stuff or checked any websites yet, any word on maybe Frankie stepping in to fight Mendes? He seemed pretty unscathed from the fight tonight?"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Re: OS MMA Random Thread
Have you ever had that dream where you're in a fight, but you can't really punch the person you're fighting? That's how BJ looked last night. It was upsetting to see him go out like that, especially since BJ is one of my favorite fighters ever.
You do have to give him respect in the fact that he's always fought the top guys. When he came back after losing to Frankie the second time I always wanted him to go down in competition at lightweight. I wanted him to fight someone like Diego Sanchez again, but instead he goes to WW and fights some of the best there (Hughes wasn't really great at the time, but was still could have been a tough fight). Then after taking two beatings he doesn't fight for 19 month and comes back to fight Edgar (who is pretty much right there with the champs of both featherweight and lightweight).
I feel like a lot he has a lot going on in his head, almost like he's gun-shy or shell shocked or something... Either way, as much as I would love for him to come back and have that killer look in his eye like he did when we was the LW champ, I think we can all agree that that's not going to happen. It's sad, but it's undoubtedly time for him to hang it up. It will be nice seeing him in the Hall of Fame and I know some may call his career a disappointment and think what could have been, but he was the champ in two different weight classes, how many other people can say that they did that (Randy Couture is the only other one, iirc)? My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague
