However, I'm sure the fight will happen again but, probably in late 2010 or 2011 (this is just me speculating and I hope that I'm wrong).

Well moving on from this unfortunate decision, who do you guys think deserves the next shot at the LHW title? Aside from Shogun, of course. We should probably take Rampage out of the equation, as well. And IMO, Rashad probably needs (at least) two wins before he deserves another shot... So, who else?

The fight will happen in Feb or March. I dont know why you think it will happen in late 2010. The demand is there. Both fighters have agreed to it and there is noone else that is ready for a shot with Rampage playing BA.

Cecil's name was the most recognizable. He's well known from judging boxing and MMA.

I was guessing that Machida wouldn't want an immediate rematch and I don't ever recall one happening before so, basically I was just speculating. However, I hope that I'm wrong because I would LOVE to see it happen. The sooner the better!!

Dana confirmed that Machida accepted the rematch the day after the fight. All thats left is for him to sign. Plus Machida has no one else to fight and seems like an honorable guy. He's not gonna run from Rua.

I'm not sure if this has been posted here, but CompuStrike released their tallies from the fight, and they pretty much confirm what Fight Metric had.

I can see how Machida got the first 3 rounds now. @ round 2.

GSP vs Serra I and II

I think my view might differ from Aholbert here, ...I think that if you lose you don't have to get at least 3 wins first before a rematch given a number of scenarious. 1 of those being a close fight that went to the score cards - not just that there might not be other 'deserving or worthy' challenges. Another reason for me is that it's what people want to see most, - GSP got TKO'd decisively by Serra, yet the rematch was immediately what people wanted. I think Serra was supposed to fight Hughes, but got injured so if I remember correctly it was fate more than UFC calling for the rematch immediately...but it worked out for the best - if hughes beat Serra, than GSP would have fought Hughes, not avenging his loss to Serra probably ever.

IMO Rua vs. Machida could be one of those "trillogy's" that the fans love and obviously organizations love because of the extra drama/story/lore etc..which = $

I guess the winner of Tito/Forrest or Couture/Vera would be next if not Shogun. Nothing else makes sense but even that barely does. Bader is undefeated but yet to beat anyone significant. Krzysztof might've been in the running if he beat Vera.
Cecil has a history of head-scratching decisions.

GSP fought Koscheck after losing to Serra. Then it was supposed to be Hughes vs. Serra but Serra got hurt so it became GSP vs. Hughes for the interim title. After both those GSP fought Serra again.

yeah, I forgot about that; have less to back up my point - but I still think there are a number of scenarios that really need quick re-matches and this is definetely one of them. I feel that Rua got hosed here, and even if I didn't, the fight was too close to say that Rua has to drag himself back up the ladder because he deserves to stay right up there at the top and fight the absolute best.

I agree and it will happen. Now if Rampage was fighting and he beat Evans, we would have a problem because Ramp would deserve the next shot. The situation here is no one else deserves a shot right now and most feels he deserves a rematch. Too bad that the rematch wont happen until March/April because of Machida's injury.
