    Re: Machida vs Shogun...UFC 104

Echoing what someone else said, Goldberg was ridiculous in the main event over-hyping (even for his standards) any little thing Shogun did.

I had the fight a solid 48-47 Rua. He obviously landed more shots and weakened/slowed Machida with the leg kicks, but the problem is that he never had him in immediate danger and we all know trying to outpoint the champ is risky business. I'm trying to understand the judges reasoning and I think to them Machida scored major points in the early rounds by getting the better of Shogun during the few flurries they got into.

I'd like to see a rematch because its justified for Shogun's sake, but at the same time, that was extremely painful to watch punch, counter kick, back away, size each other up for 30 seconds, rinse & repeat.

And number four is a no brainer. Belfort vs Machida is a huge draw money wise.
Its also complete BS considering the fact that that belt means nothing right now. The LHW champion has no belt around his waist right now.

That is pretty much a Machida fight.......BORING, LOL. That is why I said Rampage is going to fight Machida next, because they know Rampage won't allow the fight to be boring because he is aggressive.

UFC can't afford 2 Machida boring main event fights in a row. When you think about it, that is why they had Forrest fight Silva, because Forest would stand and bang.

I'm usually entertained by Machida and can enjoy patient fighters, but both of them were waiting to counter the other most of the match and they put on a snoozefest.

I agree they can't put on two boring LHW title matches in a row and that's why the rematch will be a little ways out.

Am I the only one that gave Machida 5 and Shogun 3? I've been looking around and everyone has the opposite, even people that have it 4-1 Shogun gave Machida 3. Maybe I got confused somewhere and am remembering wrong. Even switching them I'd still have it 3-2 Machida.

Remember this is a round by round basis, not Pride style where the overall fight is judged.
            I had it:
round 1 - Machida but very close
round 2 - Shogun but again very close
Round 3 - Machida stole it with the big flurry at the end in an other wise close toss up round like the first 2.
Round 4 Shogun, the most definative round of the night
            Round 5 Shogun

Shogun - 48-47 But I COULD see someone giving machida round 2. so thats why im saying this fight isnt as big of a robbery as everyone is making it out to be. Shogun being more decisive in rounds 4 and 5 makes this seem like a much bigger robbery. Again i scored the fight for shogun, but i debated long and hard about round 2 before giving shogun the nod. I would love to see a rematch

No way Dana gives Rampage a title shot after this whole A-team debacle. More likely a rematch with Shogun.

Totally agree. I had Machida winning rounds 3 and 4 tops.

There is nobody else for Machida to fight. Evans needs two more wins before he even sniffs a rematch. Silva wont fight him. Belfort is getting Silva in January. Rampage isnt fighting until Summer at the earliest.

Plus Dana needs a February championship fight and neither guy was injured bad enough where they cant be back in 4 mos.

SMH, they might as well just make this the next title match

I swear UFC fans have short memories. How can anyone say this was close to the worst UFC title fight ever? Was Silva/Leites that long ago? Was it Bonner/Griffin? No, but the two guys styles will never equal an exciting fight.

Rua fought a brilliant strategic fight and found perhaps the only whole in Machida's style. If you press the action against Machida, you get knocked out. If you go headhunting against Machida, you get knocked out. He concentrated on countering and punished the easier parts of the body to hit...the midsection and legs. I'm actually looking forward to the rematch.

My bad man. I wasnt responding to you. There were 2 or 3 posts in this thread calling it that. The fight wasnt good but it wasnt that bad.
