Re: Machida vs Shogun...UFC 104
I'm starting to warm up to this card, but only kind of. Lyoto/Shogun will be interesting. It'd be shocking if Stevenson/Fisher wasn't really entertaining. And I want to see Velasquez and Johnson, but their matchups aren't thrilling.
This is a card they really need to show a couple of the prelim fights on Spike, though. Do a 1-hour thing like they're doing for 103 and show Bader/Schafer and either Okami/Sonnen or Barry/Hardonk.
Assuming they don't do that, they should have moved Bader/Schafer to the Ultimate Fight Night a few days earlier. In fact, I can't imagine why they didn't do that in the first place. Bader's a recent TUF winner, he's one of the better up-and-comers they have, it makes no sense to bury him on a PPV prelim when they could showcase him on a UFN a few days earlier. Switch his fight with the Quarry/Credeur fight and I'd be happy.Comment

Josh Neer replaces Sean Sherk for 104
Former lightweight champion Sean Sherk’s surprise return to California — where he says he was falsely accused by the state athletic commission of taking steroids in 2007 — just wasn’t meant to be.
“The Muscle Shark” has been forced out of an upcoming 155-pound tilt opposite Gleison Tibau at UFC 104: “Machida vs. Shogun,” opening up the door for the always-game Josh Neer to take his place inside the Octagon at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif., on Oct. 24.
Sherdog.com reports that Sherk sustained a shoulder injury in training that will keep him out of action four at least four weeks, which would seriously cut in to his preparation for the Brazilian.
It’s a good thing “The Dentist” makes house calls.
Neer is coming off a frustrating unanimous decision loss to Kurt Pellegrino at UFC 101 on Aug. 8, during which he was stifled by the wrestling and ground skills of “Batman” for most of the 15-minute scrap. It was no doubt a tough pill to swallow for the Des Moines, Iowa, native because he has yet to string together consecutive wins since returning to the promotion in early 2008.
Neer was looking to build off a “Fight of the Night” winning performance over Mac Danzig at UFC Fight Night 17 earlier this year, which prompted the UFC to award him with a contract extension. It was his second bonus in as many fights — he dropped a different “Fight of the Night” in a three-round war against Nate Diaz before the win over Danzig.
His ability to electrify the crowd with his aggressiveness is among the best in the division; however, he may have a difficult time sparking fireworks against another talented Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist.
Tibau is also coming off a decision loss (split) after Melvin Guillard took him the distance at the TUF 9 Finale less than a month ago. It snapped a two-fight win streak for the Brazilian, who’s been up and down since his debut against Nick Diaz at UFC 65 way back in November 2006.
The streaking American Top Team (ATT) product followed the Diaz loss by winning his next three fights inside the Octagon before dropping consecutive bouts to perennial division threats Tyson Griffin and Joe Stevenson.
UFC 104 features the first title defense for undefeated light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida against fellow Brazilian Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in the main event of the evening. In addition, rising talent Cain Velasquez and veteran Ben Rothwell will “wage war” in a super-sized heavyweight showdown.XBL: DTX3

Re: Machida vs Shogun...UFC 104
There's no way Neer/Tibau deserves to be on the main card, so hopefully this means either Okami's fight or Bader's fight will make it. If I had to guess, I'd say Bader's, since the UFC has already been regionalizing their PPVs, so Okami's fight will be shown to the Asian markets, so it makes sense to give us the Bader fight.Comment

I would really like to see Okami on the main card. I mean, I'll see the fight regardless but it's been a long time since his last fight. I know he bores some people but I like him.PSN: ScoopBrady

MMA Junkie is reporting that Neer/Tibau is going to remain on the main card. In-freaking-sane.
At least this card will provide everyone with more time to save up for 106 and 107.Comment

Re: Machida vs Shogun...UFC 104
Rua's young he's won a lot of fights he just doesn't impress me - the window for dominance is short in MMA, I think he hit in Pride and will be more of an average Joe in UFC - I just think Machida is really sharp right now and Shogun isn't , but that's why they have the fight right? just an opinionComment

Re: Machida vs Shogun...UFC 104
When Rua loses - I'd like to see him get a win or two and go up against Thiago Silva. I think that would be a badass fight.Comment

Re: Machida vs Shogun...UFC 104
I'm interested to see how Rua approaches Lyoto. He should have confidence galore (even if a bit false) after sending Chuck to the golf course - But he might have some tentative fear a la opponents of A.Silva. It's hard to say if he'll attack or try to pick his spots...maybe he'll try to force it to the ground?
I'll guess 3rd round KO for Machida.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

Re: Machida vs Shogun...UFC 104
Oh and I agree Okami should be on the main card, but I'm sure the reason it's not is because the fight will most likely be boring as hell.Comment

Re: Machida vs Shogun...UFC 104
WHOA WHOA WHOA! So, I get a weekly email from ticketmaster informing me about upcoming events. In this week's email, it's telling me about UFC 104 and how the location is at Morongo in Cabazon. I went to UFC's official site and it says nothing of the sort, still at Staples Center. Ticketmaster is also selling tickets for both venues on the same date. Anyone know what's going on? If they moved the event, I might need to exchange my tickets or something.Comment

I just checked their site and read what it said - it's just being televised from there.
