Re: Machida vs Shogun...UFC 104
Ya but who else right now is more deserving than Rua and that's available ? After rampage , Rua is the most deserving considering he won his last 2 matches. Who else? Griffin is tied up, Liddell is cooked, Rampage doesn't want the fight, Jon Jones too green and not ready, Vera fallen off the map. The most logical choice is Shogun right now. If he wins, a star is "reborn" if you will, if he loses, Machida's stock goes up even more.
Franklin is fighting W.Silva
Griffin is fighting A.Silva
Rampage is fighting Evans
t.Silva is fighting Jardine
Hamill is fighting Vera
Ufc throws out an "easy match" for its champion while the division resets to set up big fights. The first match up is the easy one Rampage vs Evans who ever wins is the sure the number 1 contender. The perfect storm for the ufc would be Franklin,Griffin, T.Silva and Hamill winning which would set up Franklin vs. Griffin basically the new number 1 contender fight,T.Silva vs Hamill the winner can fight Jon Jones setting up the next big star hopefully.
Rua is only person left around with any pedigree. All Machida has to do is win a "trap fight" and we should be treated to some great fights. The big picture is great if machida just beats ruaLast edited by Luck911; 05-31-2009, 01:54 PM.Comment

Re: Machida vs Shogun...UFC 104
It is obvious that his knee is in much beter shape now which has come with time and laying off, and I will be very surprised if he comes in to this fight out of shape. I dont see it happening, and if he does than we know that it is do to his knee holding his training back, and he will never be the same. I am expecting to see a was that goes into the 3rd round.
This fight will be very important for SG not olny becasue it is a title shot, but it will truly show what the future holds for him.
I still think you areby the way.

Re: Machida vs Shogun...UFC 104
We arent saying that he will be as good as he was before for sure, but we do understand how serious of an injury he sustained, and that it has absolutely nothing in commone with what Chuck is going through(I dont know why you just cant admit this?). It is devastating to an athelete, and many atheletes dont even come back form it, and many are never the exact same like you say. We agree there. In all honesty I think he has looked ok, and seems to be getting more confident in his abilities considering what he went through.

Re: Machida vs Shogun...UFC 104
Has anyone ever thought that part of the reason for Shogun's (and Wand's) poor showing in UFC so far is due to UFC not allowing the knees to the face of a downed opponent and soccer kicks? As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"Comment

Re: Machida vs Shogun...UFC 104
Really? Liddell??? Chuck 1-4 Glass Jaw Liddell? Chuck has been on the recieving end of Knock out of the night in 3 of his last 5 fights. Chuck is done, shouldn't even have been in that fight. IF that fight happened 2 or 3 years ago Chuck walks through that punch, now? Out Cold. And Rua's biggest problem has been conditioning, and that fight didn't get out of the 1st round.
I agree with everything else except the remark about chuck walking through the punch though. the rest of it was actually a pretty intellegent arguement and one that people can only speculate as to weather shogun has battled past those problems.
I will say this I think shogun will be in tip top shape. If you cant get motivated for a title fight in the UFC's DEEPEST division. then you dont belong. he will show up to fight, and wont be gassing in the 1st round.
EDIT: I still think shogun loses, even at 100%. his hyper agressive style plays right into machida's hand, and the dragon will pick him apart. Shogun still has a punchers, kickers, kneers etc chance.Last edited by ManiacMatt1782; 05-31-2009, 03:49 PM.Comment

Re: Machida vs Shogun...UFC 104
I will say this. I miss soccer kicks more than anything. There is nothing I hate more about the UFC than when a fighter turtles up on the ground and you cant make them pay the ultimate price.
However, I dont think it would fly in the US so easily, and if keeping them out helps to keep the longevity of the sport here, I am all for it.Comment

Re: Machida vs Shogun...UFC 104
If Im Machida in this fight I am targeting the leg immediately and testing just how "healed" it is.
This is such a tough fight for Rua - and I'd like to see him do well - I've said before I think he's slipping (and I will say I know his injury has a lot to do with it so whoady4shoady doesn't bite my head off again) but he is one of my favorite fighters -
my motto has always been bet with your head and not your heart , I just can't see him (Rua) piecing it all back together and beating a guy who is at the pinnacle of his career. Maybe if he had a few recent impressive victories under his belt before this I could - but he hasn't.Last edited by wyrm187; 06-01-2009, 02:44 PM.Comment

Re: Machida vs Shogun...UFC 104
I just shelled out over 100 bucks to sit up in the peasant section, this is the first time I'm saying something I paid a great deal of money for better be worth it.
I was kinda looking forward to seeing Cain and Carwin. But I am pretty excited about seeing Machida fight.Comment
