It's business. Before Fedor lost, Strikeforce was looking to have a Fedor-Overeem fight as their first ever PPV event, and wanted to hype it up through a few fights. It's not like their titles have much prestige to lose anyways, with Overeem only having once defended the HW title in years against Rogers.

Fedor only has one fight on his contract, and Strikeforce bent over backwards for Fedor and M1. They might as well cash in on the fight people want to see while they can. If Overeem wins, they'll have two highly ranked HW's that beat the mighty Fedor, and can better sell a Werdum/Overeem fight.

EDIT- Followed your advice and the first listing is Werdum saying he wants to fight Fedor in 8 months leaving the door open to fight Overeem between now and then. Everything else I see points to the same time frame so I dont see how this somehow means Werdum doesnt want to fight Overeem.

I dont remember that at all. I remember him gushing about Fedor and offering him a rematch but I dont remember him ever saying he didnt want to fight Overeem either. I think Werdum was just being respectful in wanting to give Fedor a rematch but I could be wrong.

Here is one article I saw back at the end of June that seemed to atleast hint that Overeem vs Werdum was on the table but who knows.

Werdum did an interview with tatame.com, in it he says "I just beat the best of the world, I don't want to take a step backwards and fight Overeem."

I can't post the link, but if you search that quote on google you'll find a number of sites that reported it.

That shows how little people think of the SF heavyweight championship. This happens when u allow ur champ to not defend the belt for 2 yrs.

          Yeah this is true.

Plus I don't think Overeem is very well respected in the MMA community. Werdum had a funny quote about him being on "gummy juice".

His logic doesn't make any sense.

I'm pretty sure Overeem's fight with Rogers was a non title fight. So he still hasn't defended his title.

Actually, it was a title fight: http://www.mmafighting.com/2010/05/1...-alistair-ove/

If they fight again I think Fedor wins though. He won't be as reckless jumping into guard.
Fedor was arrogant on the ground with Werdum. He played with fire and got burnt. You dont jump in someones guard on the level of Werdum like that not once but two times in a matter of seconds. We have to remember that Werdum is a bigger better version on Big Nog on the ground.

Werdum is a two-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion, a two-time ADCC world heavyweight champion and European Jiu-Jitsu champion. Big Nog is very good but not on that level. Big Nog started Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu when he was 18. Even Fedor had some close calls against Nog in the 1st fight. He changed up his strategy in the 3rd. In the 1st fight he played in Big Nogs guard. By the 3rd fight he punched around Nog standing only to get the takedown for some GNP only to stand back up for it to repeat.

It looked like Werdum trolled Fedor in for a trap. Fedor barely hit him.

                  Fedor will be back.
