Re: Official UFC Undisputed 3 Impressions Thread
You know if Phobia approves this game, then it's legit. I recall you calling 10 garbage quite a few times. I actually liked 10. Even though it wasn't anything close to a simulation it still was fun and I logged a ton of hours playing it.
For those of you with the game, have you tried career mode yet? I'm just wondering if you fight the same guy 5 or 6 times in a career like you have in the past?
Also, how is create-a-fighter and fighter share? Do you still have to go through career to build up a CAF attributes or can you rate them as highly as you want from the jump? In fighter share does attributes carry over?My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

Re: Official UFC Undisputed 3 Impressions Thread
Anyway, I'm looking forward to playing this one after reading the positive impressions, especially the detailed recap by Phobia. I enjoyed 09 and despised 10, but from what I'm hearing this year's is much improved. I'm not ready to full-on purchase it, but I just got a text that Gamefly shipped it to me.Comment

You have a choice:
1. Build a CAF through Career mode
2. Create a CAF outside of Career mode and pay 3 bucks (per CAF) for a Booster pack to give him realistic stats.
Booster packs will be needed for people who want to create and use fighters like Fedor and Bonner.
Here is some other info I found from my go to CAF site:
"The highest you can make an insta CAF is 75. Well below the in game fighters.
If you go through career, you can get your fighter really high, but after you retire and copy him, the stats for the copy get reset to default.
This year they have fighter share, but the downloaded cafs stats will also be reset to the default.
One of the developers WES, said that the higher the difficulty, the higher level caf you could make. Playing on Ultimate, the highest he got was 94. He also said that the boost pack probably wouldn't get you that high cause it would be more equivalent to playing on experienced."Comment

UFC 3 while still running on the same engine took many of the things we loved about 09 and improved on them while adding in much needed new features.
1) Light punches now are deadly and really are a game changer. Heavy punches are still deadly but light punches now have a purpose and they carry much better damage.
2) No more auto-block in ground game is fantastic! Plus adding in animations for "attempting" a reversal and holding on to prevent the pass really help show whats going on. Plus a small but huge improvement is that every move must be finished before you can do something else. Another words if you attempt to reverse someone and it shows the animation flinching, you can't immediately hold right stick to the side to prevent the pass so you open yourself up attempting to reverse. Same thing holds true for stopping pass and punching from ground.
3) CPU AI!!! Now while I have not experience this enough yet but by the first feels it is a huge improvement over the previous years. While not 100% perfect still, it does feel much much better.
4) Fluid on ground, the ability to wiggle to cage and USE the cage to get up is a big deal. While it might seem like just another transition position, it makes the fights feel more dynamic and always changing positions and evolving.
5) More moves and better animations needs no explanation.
6) Clinch struggle system to pull away or strike your way out is great! You finally have options to get out of a bad position. Same thing holds true for the ground game.
7) Submission system is still a wait and see for me. I struggled very hard to lock in a sub on a human opponent. The ability to "fake out" seems slightly to easy but yet again not tested enough to tell.
8) Ground sways are a nice addition but not a huge game changer. While it helps save you the biggest thing it does is makes the fights feel more real. It feels as if you are really struggling to hold on and survive a onslaught.
9) Leg kicks mattering why did it take this long is my biggest complaint
10) DAMAGE!!!!! I pray they don't tweak this at all with a patch. The game feels PERFECT right now, like demo 09 if anyone remembers that. Don't protect yourself and you will be KOed in 25 secs. But if you fight smart and protect yourself you can easily go to a decision.
Currently the two biggest question marks for me are ONLINE stability (match making, smoothness) and Career mode to see if it will be fun and not a HUGE chore just to enjoy the singleplayer portion.
Overall I could go on little more but the gameplay itself just FEELS so balanced finally!
Edit: Ohhh and that is not even mentioning the best presentation of any sports title bar none!Last edited by Phobia; 02-13-2012, 01:14 PM.Comment

Re: Official UFC Undisputed 3 Impressions Thread
so Phobia? I take it the agrresivenes of the cpu AI was good? I'd like to hear your report tomorrow on fighting against a cpu AI Machida...hopefully they make him a pure counterstriker like he is in real life and he uses his strikes very judiciously.
And yes, my excitement level for the game shot up thru the roof as well after your seal of approval.Last edited by phillyfan23; 02-13-2012, 02:14 PM.Comment

Overall like I said not perfect but much much improved!
I am interested to fight Machida also. I hope he is back pedaling a good bit, but he does still fight coming forward in real life so it should be a good balance.
One thing I want people to realize it we can't get hung up on "styles" to a large degree. We want guys to fight like themselves but MMA is a blur the lines type of sport also. While Thiago Alves is a fierce striker with brutal kicks and knees. He also is dominate on the ground and has great take down defense. So seeing Alves take it to the ground and deliver brutal ground and pound while might not fit the model of how you view Thiago fighting. It does fall in line with real life realism to a degree. No differently than how Maia has been working on his hands and has shown sparks of decent striking in his last few fights. For instance against Weidman he attempted to keep it standing and striking which if this happened in the game people would be screaming from the heavens he does not fight like his self. So just keep things like that in mind, we want the A.I. to have a certain "style" for that fighters strengths but also adapt to the fight.
Example: Maia not looking like Maia but instead like a striker

Re: Official UFC Undisputed 3 Impressions Thread
did the devs ever mention anything about updating ratings on fighters as they move up and down in rankings? I know they did I think a grand total of once for Jon Jones and a few other figters in 2010 but I didn't see anything about this for the new version. thanksComment

Here is how CAF works:

Re: Official UFC Undisputed 3 Impressions Thread
Could you explain the bold little better Aholbert? I am not quite understanding. What is default? Another words if I create myself in career mode and go through till I retire. Say for example I finish at a 84 overall. I then retire him and choose to use him online. What does it get reset to default mean?
If you take that Career mode fighter and make a copy of him, the copy will not be an 84. He will be a 75 (the default rating).
If you download a fighter from fighter share, his ratings will not come over and he will be a 75.Comment
