Same here. I went through 2 PS3 controllers, basically making the top of the R Stick into a little mud flap. If your on the 360 (which I am now) you don't have that problem, not that you have to worry about it anymore since the shine is gone.

Anyway, career mode is a blast this year. I'm running through a WW career with Ellenburger right now. My record was around 20-2 when I finally got a shot at the title held by Nate Diaz. This was my first time facing Nate in any mode and dude is just relentless. He tapped me out in the first round. After that I went on a 3 fight winning streak, beating Kos, Hardy and GSP. Then got another shot against Nate and the same damn thing happened. Dude is just a beast in career mode, he's currently the #1 p4p fighter. After taking that loss, I joined a Pride GP and that's where I currently stand. I don't even want to think about facing Nate again.

I'm having so much fun with career mode that I don't even mind waiting on the other fighters to start my league. I actually plan on going through career with a fighter in each weight class. My buddy made a pretty good Dustin Poirier, so I'm thinking about using him next. My only minor complaint about career is that I wish that there were three weeks in-between fights instead of two. It's not that big of a deal though.

Re: Official UFC Undisputed 3 Impressions Thread

Ok guys I think I have figured out this CPU CAF AI. This is a multi part process of how the AI determines what to do.

      1. The category you have the highest rating in is what that CPU AI will look to use the most. Therefore if you have standing strikes in the 80s, they will look to punch more, if it is kicks, they will look to kick more.

Also noticed if you give a category a rating of 60 or low, they won't look to do it at all. So if you creating a wrestler and you don't want them throwing kickings, give them a kick rating at 60 or lower. Same thing with submissions and takedowns. If you don't want them on the ground, give them a low rating in those categories.

The way I noticed is that a strike rating of 65 to 70, they will throw a few here and there but but not a lot. 75 to 80 they will throw a good average amount with a few combos here and there. 80 and above, they will throw a lot of strikes.

Now I am sure some of you might have the following 3 questions:

How do I make them throw a lot of combos ?

This is where the footwork and cardio comes in. The higher the footwork the more combos they will throw and the higher the cardio combined with high footwork determines how often they can do it.

Both of them in the 80s and you will have a combo machine.

How do I make them slip and rip more ?

Speed and standing strikes defense. The higher those 2 are, the more they will sway and counter. Once again 80 or higher.

If a give a guy punch or kick power in the 80s or 90s, won't that give them KO power ?

No, not necessarily. We do have a strength rating in this game and that over rides EVERYTHING, from throws, punches, sub offense, sub defense, transitions etc.

So unless their strength is at 80 or higher, the chances of them KO'ng somebody is pretty slim.

      2. The second part of the equation of what style the CPU AI is based on their opponent's ratings in the different categories. Basically they will go with the category that they have the clear advantage in.

So if they have high strike rating and their opponent has a lower strike defense rating by 10 points or more, they will look to stand and bang.

When it comes to submissions, they will only be aggressive with them if their sub offense is 10 or more points higher then the other guys sub defense. This explains why BJJ fighters aren't aggressive in this game. Because most of the fighters don't have a 10 point or more difference.

So if you want to make an aggressive BJJ guy, you have to give him a sub offense of 95 or more. Reason being, most of the roster have a sub defense in the low to mid 80s.

And if a guy has a sub defense of the high 80s or in the 90s, you going to rarely see the CPU even attempt to go for a submission. About the most they will do is try to go for a submission transition counter, but not an all out direct submission attempt.

Don't worry, a 95 or even 100 sub offense rating won't make them an automatic limb ripping machine. Strength over rides everything. And majority of the BJJ guys have a low strength rating. Other then Mir, I don't any of them are rated high in both strength and submission offense.

However Mir is also rated high in strikes, therefore he looks to stand and bang more then he looks for submissions.

      3. The CPU has Adaptive AI. Which means in the beginning they will look to take advantage of the other guys weakness FIRST, however if they get rocked or things aren't working for them, they will look to change to a different weakness of their opponent.

      4. Be careful where you assign moves too. If you don't want a fighter doing a certain position, then don't assign them moves in that category. So if you making a ground guy, don't assign him any moves in the stand up game.

Because if you assign them a move in a position category, they will use that category.

      Some other thoughts............

Footwork = agility basically. It works in the stand up and works on the ground. I find a BJJ fighter with footwork in the mid to upper 80s does a very good job of maintaining their guard and don't get reversed as often.

Strength = a boost and reinforcement type of rating. Remember it effects all aspects of the game.

      Some examples:

You can have high strength but low sub defense and still manage to hold your own against sub attacks. Which is why even though Sonnen was able to survive all of Maia's sub attacks in a game I had earlier. Maia might have a sub offense but his strength is weak.

The more strength you have, the longer you can hold sub attacks and the longer you can hold rubber or butterfly guard. Also makes you hold guard better period with a less chance of being reversed.

So there you have it folks of how to make your CAF behave the way you want them to.

You want a ground and pound fighter ?

85 or above take down. 65 to 70 standing strikes, 80 to 90 ground strikes.

      Stand up guy ?

High striking, very low take down offense, very high take down defense

I'm enjoying "Couture"ing people using Munoz in MW. Nothing quite like neutralizing a striker by getting them against the cage on the ground or in the clinch and just straight controlling the action with GnP. On advance difficulty so far I have grinded out a victory against everyone. I really like how octagon control is a real thing in this year's version. It ups the strategy tremendously.

I have watched over 100 CPU vs CPU fights now with high rated BJJ guys. They are way too passive. They aren't aggressive, they are counter BJJ guys in the sense majority of their submission attempts are TRANSITION submission counters.

That in itself is unrealistic. They should be looking to attack off their back or attack on top way more often. The most submission attempts I seen in a fight was 9 and that was Maia vs Sonnen in this game. Maia is 89 submission offense, Sonnen is 65 submission defense but yet Maia couldn't submit Sonnen ?

I see BJJ guys try to stand and bang way too much for my taste. Butterfly guard and rubber guard gets passed way too easy and too quick too. The reversals also need to be toned down.

On average it is about 65 to 100 reversals per a game per a 3 round fight. That is is way too many. Should be more like 4 to 10 per a fight.
I'm really not seeing what you guys are seeing. I fought Palhares today with my CAF and Palhares is constantly going for subs. He even submitted me with a diving heel hook. He was very aggressive with subs.

Now if we are just talking about CPU v. CPU then I understand but people who expected a good CPU v. CPU game were bound for disappointment. The UFC3 team barely added anything to other modes that more people use like CAF creation so I doubt they took any time with that.

Well you guys were right about the new sub system. I picked this game up, and through about 20 fights, I have 6 or 7 sub victories. So refreshing! Lol I'm glad I decided to pick this up.

I just realized that even though it was 48 fights, my fighter was only 30. That's extremely disappointing that they make you retire and you're only 30 (well, I had him as age 21 to start, so I'd assume if you make him 18, he'll retire are 27). I think they should bring back a slight decline and let you retire on your own terms.

Damn you can't make Igor "Ice Cold" Vovchanchyn or Jeff Monson. The shortest a heavyweight can be is 6ft. That is a bummer because both dudes were only 5'8.

I know Jon Jones has one, but the only one I'm able to execute is a knee to the body.
