Re: UFC: Aldo vs Pettis - Aug. 3
I posted this in the other thread but I'll post it here too:
Let me say I excited about this fight and think it will be Aldo's toughest test by far. With that said, it makes no sense from a matchmaking perspective.
One, the timing makes no sense. August? Between the Jones/Sonnen fight and this August card there are 5 cards this fight could headline (Memorial Day, June Brazil Card, July 4th, Mid July PPV and a Fox card in July). The only card with a current main even is the June Brazil card (Nog v. Werdum) and I expect that Cain will headline one of them and Silva v. Weidman will be on another. That still leaves two cards that this fight could headline. Aldo took very little damage against Edgar so I see no reason why we have to wait 6 mos for this fight
Two, you have people like Zombie and Lamas who could fight for the belt this summer. Also, who does the Bendo/Gil winner fight now? Maynard? Jim Miller? -

And what I said:
Oh no... I don't get Pettis here.
I think he is way too much "on fire" right now.
He won convincingly and people talk high about him, so he wants everything everywhere.
Some people should have calm him down and make him realize that he earned his title shot in 155 and waiting should have been betterComment

Loving that match-up.
Like aholbert32 said - I agree this will be Aldo's toughest test yet. Showtime is just SO unpredictable in there. But, Aldo is an assassin with his striking repertoire. Should be a sick fight. Hoping for a FOTY candidate.
Quite frankly, it's a toss up for me at this point. Both guys bring so much to the table.Chicks dig the long ball.

I don't like this. Seeing a trend of guys just jumping weight classes getting title shots.Originally posted by MoJust once I'd like to be the one they call a jerk off.Originally posted by MoYou underestimate my lazinessOriginally posted by Mo**** ya

Yeah, I need to apologize to people like Ex who said this would start to be the trend after the Sonnen/Jones fight. If Evans wouldve won on Saturday, that would make it 3 times this has happened in the past year.Comment

I honestly didn't see this becoming a thing. Wrong again.Originally posted by MoJust once I'd like to be the one they call a jerk off.Originally posted by MoYou underestimate my lazinessOriginally posted by Mo**** ya

Re: UFC: Aldo vs Pettis - Aug. 3
Between weight classes, there are differences. Strengh, speed, size, or simply the fighters who are different, different styles, approaches, coaches,...
For me, if you move from a weight class to an other, you have to prove that you belong in the very top of the category.
It's not because you're a beast at 155 that you will destroy everybody at 145.
For me, a guy who moves should have one fight before a title shot.
At least not champion fightersComment

Re: UFC: Aldo vs Pettis - Aug. 3
No need to apologize Alhobert, I actually agree with guys jumping weight classes IF IT MAKES SENSE AND THE CIRCUMSTANCES [I.E. INJURIES] CALL FOR IT
In this case, it doesn't make sense. August is when he could possibly get the shot at 155.
I could understand this fight if the match was set for May.
Like others said, this throws both classes out of whack now. I assume Korean Zombie will fight Llamas for #1 contender but at LW I don't know what they plan to do for a #1 contender.
I wouldn't like it, but I predict if Pettis somehow wins, he'll hold the belt at 145 and then challenge the 155 champ too in December.Comment

Re: UFC: Aldo vs Pettis - Aug. 3
And if Pettis losses? He keeps his title shot at 155?
Probably, but I wouldn't like it too much.
I'd be happy for him, he deserves it (I'm a fan of Pettis), but maybe UFC should make a point abuot fighters moving up and down to have title shots.Comment

Re: UFC: Aldo vs Pettis - Aug. 3
Pettis doesnt deserve two title shots. He wanted Aldo and he got him. If he loses he can either work his way back up at 145 or 155. That would be unfair to folks at 155 who are fighting in that weight class and winning fights.Comment
