Oh Im excited about that fight. I want Joe to bring home the belt. That card is stacked with Faber/Mcdonald and Condit/Brown.

BJ Penn was still a dominant champ at UFC 112 and was coming of the thrashing of Diego Sanchez where by the end of the fight you could see part of his skull from a cut. If there was a time for him to get a victory it would have been there, because Frankie Edgar was a nobody that just fought in the prelims of a TUF Finale card.

The other rounds weren't that close.

And FYI majority thought Gus won.

          But politics that he lose.
I'm being serious here. How do you think this works? The UFC doesnt select judges and the Jones fight was in Toronto. Dana/UFC goes up to the three Canadian judges and says "Hey, we want Jones to win and if it goes to decision and you let Jones win, we will make it worth it"? No one thought Gus had a chance to win that fight so the UFC woulve had to do that during the fight.

          Really?

Dude, GSP just showed up to the press conference and his face looks destroyed. Hendricks is sitting there looking like he could take wedding photos.

I understand why Hendricks is upset.

The conference just cut out due to technical difficulties. WTF

Not to mention, at this point in time with the UFC going mainstream (to a certain extent) if they did something like that and it was found out the results would be disastrous.

BJ was clearly outclassed in that fight, Frankie was just better plain and simple.

But why didnt the UFC use its "powers" to make sure the more popular fighter won? Also, he was outclassed in the rematch. Many people including myself thought he won the first one.

Rewatch that fight. Right after it happened there were a ton of people saying BJ got robbed, etc.

He got outclassed clearly in the rematch at UFC 118. Not their first meeting.

Wow are you really this naive like politics doesn't exist in sports. Its not a secret.

I'm not naive at all. I've been following Boxing for 25 and MMA for 12. Your theory makes no sense though. I know fixes. You could argue Bradley/Pac was a fix because Top Rank wanted a rematch. That makes sense.

No one argued that politics or fixes dont occur in combat sports. Anyway, I'll move on. You arent willing to explain how or why the UFC would fix these fights so your statements hold no weight.

Wonder what's going on in GSP's personal life that is causing him to take a break? Certainly not good timing for the UFC.

Hendricks fought his *** off tonight and made himself into a star, imo. With GSP out, I guess UFC sets up an Interim title fight with him and ... Lawler?

Have to give it to Hendricks. He said what many other fighters have said about GSP, "GSP has never fight a fighter like me." Finally someone was right.

Shoot I am willing to bet a lot of money that fights were fixed in Pride. Lots of fishy fights there. There is just not a ton to gain and a LOT to lose from a scandal like that happening in the UFC now. The UFC could lose their Fox deal that pays them 100mil a year, lose their credibility and kiss their small chance of getting into New York goodbye.
Politics obviously happen though, but that is more in regards to matchmaking.

Cant make it an interim if GSP retires. He's been hinting at wanting to start a family and for some reason he feels like he needs to step away from the fight game to make that happen. Also he has the new Captain America movie coming out next year and maybe wants to pursue more acting.
